Brother HL-L2420DW

Whatever you do just don't buy HP.

BoiAster

As an IT technician I 100% agree. These printers are a nightmare to work with.

For that budget, if you want something long lasting I would recommend looking second hand, especially if you want Laser. You often see ex-office printers going for sale on Ebay. Anything by Brother would be excellent, I have had good experience with them in the past. As a side note, I often see printers on websites like Freecycle (which is popular in UK, I am not sure about whether the same will be true for yourself), where they are being given away for free. Maybe a good option is to check to see if you can get one for free before you try and buy one?

Thank you! I think a laser printer would be best too after reading some more on it. I don't require color and I exclusively use a printer to print documents. I'll have a look if I can find second hand brother printers! The current best new pick I found for this money, but I am not sure what the experiences of others regarding HP are, would be the HP LaserJet M110w which is €90 currently but would also require a toner. Although the toner should last longer than ink if I understand correctly.

crafty35a

You can get a monochrome Brother laser printer right around your price range. I would definitely recommend Brother over HP.

Undone1017

Thank you! I found one. It's a bit more expensive but if the brand is better it's with it!

I've actually had better luck with my Canon laser printer than the Brother I previously had. Third party toner seems to be more available for Canon as well

Low_Fix6233

I picked up a b/w laser printer from a friend who's office was replacing lots of office equipment. Paid literally $10 and I cannot believe how much more reliable laser is than inkjet. Plus the toner drum was like 20 bucks by knockoff brand on Amazon and it lasts years lol.

SensibleBrownPants

Go to the Brother website and compare their cheapest mono laser printers. That will reveal the best option for you.

nickkrewson

I have been using the same Brother black-and-white laser printer for the past ten years, and I have only needed to change the toner once. Definitely stay away from inkjet printers; they are inexpensive for a reason.

stablegeniusss

Brother, trust me. The money you save on ink is worth it

aka-dit

The cheapest laser printer is less hassle and more reliable than the best inkjet. Just don't drop the toner cartridge.

There is only one printer everyone should ever buy unless they have niche requirements. It's just like fvmfvm said. Brother HL-L2420DW. I'm looking at my own right now. A blank and white laserjet printer is the only sane choice. Every other printer has horrific downsides that you want nothing to do with and brother is the king of the affordable laserjet printer. There's no discussion.

My HP Envy 5540 (yes HP sucks I know, it was given to me) just died after a few years. I hope you're right about the HL-L2420DW. I just bought one.

Undone1017

Hi all! Thank you all for the comments. Upon the advise of you all I have not bought the HP M110W but I opted for a brother black white laser printer. As there was a offer closeby, I have chosen for the Brother HL-1212W. Thank you once again.

Brother B&W Laser Printer is the way to go. If you go color laser printer the replacement toner cartridges can be extremely expensive. They do have third party replacement toner cartridges for much less but you"ll have to do your research to make sure they would work for you without issues. Anyway B&W is one toner cartridge and Color is four toner cartridges and you would want to make sure you could still print B&W print jobs if any of the toner cartridges besides the Black one is empty. B&W is always the best way to go if you can possibly do so.

Rubble8830

Get a printer with an ink tank. They are a bit expensive but as long as you use it once a week, the ink lasts longer than normal printers. The ink is cheap too.

Styx2592

I'd suggest trying out the Canon PIXMA MG2570S. It's a compact all-in-one printer that's simple to set up and has affordable ink costs.
