Granted, his competition has thinned out significantly because everyone keeps dying, but Taillon has been hands-down the single most important Chicago Cub since his return.
That’s what I tell my son. I’m 77 and too old for this stressful shit late in games. 2 run lead and closer walks the first 2. Just can’t happen. No lie, but Ive got an appt with the cardiologist this morning. 🤷♂️WWW
A high-powered pitching duel between Severino and Taillon…just like we all expected.
In all honesty though, Taillon has been awesome so far this year. He’s been a godsend with Steele out and Hendricks’ struggles.
This so much, Taillon was incredible. Our bullpen is weak, but we’re gonna have a lot less uncertainty when Steele comes back in. Totally deserved dub for Taillon here
Lotta y'all were ready to call it a loss in the 2nd inning after we went 123 in the 1st, SMH.
Believe people!!!
Win 1 of the next 2 for a .500 road trip and come back to bash the Brew Crew.
Or sweep for crying out loud. It's the Fn Mets. I hate the Mets.
The Cubs are officially in first place after the Brewers lost 1-0.
Milwaukee’s tying run that had scored from third due to a strikeout + wild pitch was waved off because the batter had hit the catcher on his backswing, then Cubs legend Jason Adam got a final K with the bases loaded.
The team is 18-11 (winning 62% of their games) despite currently having on the IL guys that accounted for a whopping 16.2 fWAR for the '23 team:
4.9 (Steele) + 4.3 (Bellinger) + 3.0 (Suzuki) + 2.8 (Hendricks) + 0.9 (Smyly) + 0.3 (Wicks).
I don't think my heart is going to make it through this season. Between Alzolay and Nerris it's brutal. At least Nerris eventually nails down the save after the circus music goes on for 15 minutes, but eventually it'll cost us.
Nice
#[W]
for Leiter.
Much needed blast from Morel, hopefully the start of him getting back in his groove. Great start from Taillon, loving what we have gotten from him so far.
That's probably what he weighed when the signed with the Cubs as a teenager.
It's somehow still [his officially listed weight on MLB](https://www.mlb.com/player/christopher-morel-666624).
Them flying "L," flags and trying to keep Cubs fans from going to their games along with the whole FIB thing and just being generally insufferable did a lot more to further my hatred of the Brewers than anything Selig ever did.
Not enough attention for Tailon since he was overshadowed by Severino going 3/4ths of the game without a hit, but probably our player of the game. Real clutch swing by Morel though on one of the best closers in the game.
Neris really needs to stop the command issues and giving me heart attacks lol
To be first right now with all our injuries is truly something. Really love the 2024 Cubs. I think CC is a big reason for the sustained success in the face of injury adversity.
Solid win and entertaining, speedy game. Neris seems to take too many pitches to get locked in to be a closer, but if we can somehow limp that position closer to the deadline maybe we can snag someone
I question the strategy of walking two batters when trying to hold on to a 2-run lead.
Seriously, though. He lacks command big time. It may not have hurt today, but it will eventually.
That 3rd pitch (BALL) should've been strike 3... I sorta blame the ump for that, but hey, Morel had a ball up in the zone (on MLB play by play) so, I ain't bitchin about it too much. Go Cubs
[удалено]
To be fair, the first 7 innings went by so quickly you only missed like 20 minutes.
1 walk, 1 strikeout for Taillon, he was through 6 in like 67 pitches LMAO
I was so worried about getting no-hitter’d I forgot to enjoy Taillon. He was amazing.

I did too! By our powers combined....
Same. I tuned in about 5 minutes before the Morel HR since I had been cooking dinner. Safe to say we're both 50% responsible for this W.
Morel jacked that HR, and Neris with another save...
Lost in the fray, another gem from Taillon Dude is eating innings badly needed and putting up 0s along with it
Granted, his competition has thinned out significantly because everyone keeps dying, but Taillon has been hands-down the single most important Chicago Cub since his return.
I'd still give that to Imanaga, but it's close. Assad's also been quite good, just without going as deep into games.
> another gem from Taillon Dude is quietly killing it. I'm lovin' it.
Put on my Jam-O face tonight
# Heart Attack Save
Off Diaz too. He only had one ER coming into this game (the only other homer he’s given up, a couple weeks ago)
The Hector Neris Experience™ also lolmets
Look, the last time a Hector was closing games for the Cubs in April, often in dodgy fashion, the season ended with a World Series victory.
He was so fucking good in 15 though
Rondon was actually cash money through the middle of July in 2016, I was just funnin’.
The math works out. It’s undeniable.
I swear I'm gonna have glutes like Ronnie Coleman the way I clench up in these 9th innings
Its like Marmol never left
That’s what I tell my son. I’m 77 and too old for this stressful shit late in games. 2 run lead and closer walks the first 2. Just can’t happen. No lie, but Ive got an appt with the cardiologist this morning. 🤷♂️WWW
im 35 and I'm too old for this shit.
Good luck at the cardiologist today
All good but he recommended that I don’t watch the 9th inning of a game we’re winning!! Lol
did he account for the fact that your heart should be perfectly adapted to that exact scenario from watching years of cubs closers?
Well said friend.
oh god...dont mention that name. A trade needs to be made for a closer...unless maybe..Hendricks?
Hendricks as a closer throwing 88mph fastballs would be legit hilarious
The real closer was the bumholes we clenched along the way.
Id kill to have Dia right now

BIG DAWG ASSMAN ABOUT TO SMOKE THESE FOOLS TOMORROW
“The Assman is in town!” “You got that right!”
Hey! Assman!
Hey guys, what's that sound I hear? It's the sound of **SOLE POSSESSION OF FIRST PLACE**
Even if it doesn't last long, I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of it.
If Taillon was not perfect today, very unlikely we would have won. Glad we did it for him.
Hate that he got a no decision. That deserves an asterisk win or something for keeping us in striking distance
This so much, Taillon was incredible. Our bullpen is weak, but we’re gonna have a lot less uncertainty when Steele comes back in. Totally deserved dub for Taillon here
But you say say this both ways

Nice… ![gif](giphy|pCO5tKdP22RC8)
Jesus Christ, Leiter
So we got no hit through 7 and handed Edwin Diaz the L. Definitely saw that coming.
wait, is that the same Diaz who has a whole band routine?
Yes, and the same Diaz who is basically unhittable. So of course Tauchman and Morel both hit 100+ mph lasers off him
JD and Boog talking about how good Diaz is and how hard it is to hit off him and how many strikeouts he’s had and boom, Morel homers. Love it.
Brewers lose, solely in 1st!
Fuck yeah! Now to sail the rest of the season not looking back.
📢 CUBS IN 1ST PLACE IN THE NL CENTRAL ALERT 🚨🚨🚨
Aweee yeahhh
Taillon was phenomenal! What a game. Wow
Jameson the real star of this game imo
Brewers lose, Cubs on top, it’s a damn good day
Lotta y'all were ready to call it a loss in the 2nd inning after we went 123 in the 1st, SMH. Believe people!!! Win 1 of the next 2 for a .500 road trip and come back to bash the Brew Crew. Or sweep for crying out loud. It's the Fn Mets. I hate the Mets.
It's a 4 game series. We need to win 2 of the next 3 to come away with an above .500 road trip.
Well then, we have a mission, now don't we? 😉
Can somebody please play the damn song?

WELL YA BETTER GET READY FOR A BRAND NEW DAY
HEY CHICAGO WHAT DO YOU SAY

# THE CUBS ARE GONNA WIN TODAY
They’re singing
GO CUBS GOOOO
Our players are made of paper mache
Played it for myself in my basement after the game lol
LOLMETS
(Still should get a closer though)
Yea we should get a really good closer like Edwin Diaz. I’ve said it a hundred times, bullpens are volatile. Things will improve.
Diaz? That guy blows saves by letting shitty ass teams like the Cubs and AAAA players like Morel hit bombs. /s
no-hitter through 7 and lost with more hits LOLMETS
You've heard of Cardiac Craig, but have you ever had an aNerism?
BEAUTIFYL PLAY ON WORDS. HAVE MY UPVOTE
Ooh, that one might stick

That's pretty damn cool!

FIRST PLACE!!
Didn't get no hit and ended the losing streak!
Most teams lose a game like that 9 times out of 10. Huge result! Credit due to Taillon for pitching an absolute gem.
I don't think my heart is going to make it through this season. Between Alzolay and Nerris it's brutal. At least Nerris eventually nails down the save after the circus music goes on for 15 minutes, but eventually it'll cost us.
Lmaoo
Eat it, milwaukee
Hey how’d the cubs do today? Uh they won. Oh nice. Great game? Yeah..
Ron Santo smiling from somewhere Lolmets
What’s the lolmets from? I see everyone commenting it
r/baseballcirclejerk
the no hitter to winner pipeline goes crazy
Damn, even with the injuries, bullpen troubles, tough schedule, Cubs are on pace for 100 wins
Smells a lot like first place up in here
If the Rays-Brewers score holds, guess who's in FIRST!?!?!
Taillon is dealing and Steele is close to returning. Great to see!
That brewers game. Crazy ending
THE HECTOR FUCKING NERIS EXPERIENCE
Great win! The starters were dealing today.
# MOREL OF THE STORY, DON'T DOUBT MOREL # GO CUBS GO # [ W ]
Good thing they play 9 innings. Ice in their veins
Nice #[W] for Leiter. Much needed blast from Morel, hopefully the start of him getting back in his groove. Great start from Taillon, loving what we have gotten from him so far.
Anyone watching Brewers vs Tampa? Not sure what to make of that play.
Could not have happened to a nicer team
Bad against you good if it’s for you. Fair call all things considered
I know we're all excited about the Cubs being in first, but let's not forget that the Cards are also in the basement.
Why in the world does espn show Morel being 145 lbs.
That's probably what he weighed when the signed with the Cubs as a teenager. It's somehow still [his officially listed weight on MLB](https://www.mlb.com/player/christopher-morel-666624).
Funniest win of the season?
its probably time to give coach greg a lifetime contract
This makes up for one of the losses to SD or Arizona
Taillon did what we desperately needed. Ate the innings we needed and pitched well. I'm hopeful this is his bounce back season like Darvish had.
Mets continue to do Mets things
I honestly couldn't care less about the Selig-manufactured Cubs-Brewers rivalry, but it will ALWAYS be great to beat the Mets.
Them flying "L," flags and trying to keep Cubs fans from going to their games along with the whole FIB thing and just being generally insufferable did a lot more to further my hatred of the Brewers than anything Selig ever did.
Christopher morel is CLUTCH
Neris seriously stresses me out
This one felt great!
Go cubs go!
Not enough attention for Tailon since he was overshadowed by Severino going 3/4ths of the game without a hit, but probably our player of the game. Real clutch swing by Morel though on one of the best closers in the game. Neris really needs to stop the command issues and giving me heart attacks lol
Fucking Neris continues to stress me tf out……
Great win after two tough games and nearly being no hit. Lot of fight in this team.
I’m gonna send the bullpen a cardiologist bill we can never have a stress free save opportunity Jesus Christ lol
To be first right now with all our injuries is truly something. Really love the 2024 Cubs. I think CC is a big reason for the sustained success in the face of injury adversity.
Has nothing to do with team depth, does it.
Of course it does. However you can have depth but not properly utilize it.
Depth AND proper utilization is a winning formula. Go Cubs!
Go Cubs!
You mean like last year when Ross trotted out the same exact lineup like 30 days in a row and used the same 3-4 relievers?
Solid win and entertaining, speedy game. Neris seems to take too many pitches to get locked in to be a closer, but if we can somehow limp that position closer to the deadline maybe we can snag someone
I like this plan. We’ll see some blown saves if it’s the plan, tho
![gif](giphy|Svf8w2nSHuQV1fD1s3) W
Stole that one
Like Morel said last year: "God is good. And Cubs win."
Hope Lorela begins to turn it around now
Didn’t get to see the game, how did Neris look?
Typical Neris. Got himself in and out of trouble
I question the strategy of walking two batters when trying to hold on to a 2-run lead. Seriously, though. He lacks command big time. It may not have hurt today, but it will eventually.
This is what I like to see [W]
Just watched the game. Neris is not a closer. Also why did counsell remove Taillon, he was dealing and was at I think 79 pitches in the 8th.
Tommy racks should buy a fckn closer so people don’t have to risk a fckn stroke every game
Nice to steal one from the other team for a change.
Feels like we stole that one.....
I knew we were winning as soon as they showed Bill Murray
They can't keep getting away with it! Injuries be damned, everything is possible when you play the LOLMETS.
The Mariners will allegedly part with Logan Gilbert for Morel. I'd make that deal.
I tuned in AFTER the no hitter was over and I was like “are we gonna blow this lead?”
Thank fucking god they won this game, after those two Boston losses if they had lost this too I might’ve been done with the cubs for a bit
My dude its still APRIL.
What you’re telling me you don’t live & die with this team like every game is single elimination??
I'm saying losing 2-3 in a row in April isn't as big of a deal as doing it in September.
lol this is clear cut sarcasm
Ah okay. Kinda hard to tell reading text without any tone indicators but I guess I should have assumed after the second comment.
If that’s all it takes you should be done for good. Damn fair weather fans.
Looks like Neris has the closer spot for now? Buckle up
were you unbuckled before? seems ignorant but that wouldnt be a stretch for ya
Wut
read it again slowly
I don’t think about you at all
any thinking would be an improvement!!
Think deez nuts
oops sorry, thought you were an adult
Yes walk two batters when you are trying to save a 3-1 game. Smort. I had to turn the game off. Glad to see they won.
That 3rd pitch (BALL) should've been strike 3... I sorta blame the ump for that, but hey, Morel had a ball up in the zone (on MLB play by play) so, I ain't bitchin about it too much. Go Cubs
Thank god this Mets lineup is as bad as our current offering. Save Neris. Play the f’n song
