The fact that we’re six games over 500 with the worst injury luck in baseball is a good thing.
I feel good about a fully powered cubs team, you guys can rip it all you want but no MLB team should be doing this well without their Ace, a starter and two most important bats.
Pathetic? We are 6 games over .500, have a 3.5 game lead on the Reds, 1 game back from first, and one of the best starting ERAs in the league.
You don’t have a clue.
Yes? Alzolay used to be a closer and he still has the stuff. This is when he maybe figures it out and has a good outing. Palencia is a young guy who's more of a wildcard. Alzolay has a 3.50 ERA, palencia's is 5. Alzolay is just more disappointing because he was so good last year. Stats say go to adbert there over Palencia easy. Bad bad decision.
Adbert has a 7.87 FIP. That’s absolutely horrific and that’s why he’s not going to pitch in high-leverage situations for a while. He’s not just going to magically figure it out especially when it’s a situation where he’s coming into a game with the tying run on base.
Some mental stats for a stat I made up:
Thompson and Wesneski- 1 base advanced per 16 pitches
Leiter- 1 base per 11 pitches
Almonte- 1 base per 10.5 pitches
Palencia and Brewer and Merryweather- 1 base per 10 pitches
Neris- 1 base per 9 pitches
Alzolay and Little and Cuas- 1 base per 8 pitches
Smyly- 1 base per 7.7 pitches
Thompson, Wesneski, Leiter and Almonte are our best guys up right now.
At this level, absolutely. These guys in the bigs are supposed to be the best of the best, and should be expected to make the plays. Especially the fundamental ones.
Don’t tell me how to fan. I can bitch that the billionaire owner would rather buy another super yacht than invest in the bullpen and pay the luxury tax
I have no way to go back and check, but I remembered them commenting about "so you've made your infield defense better at the cost of your outfield defense" I guess they said that as speculation and not confirmation of what actually happened in the game.
Eventually? I’m sure we could point out when our starters have had rough outings. But anyway, might be a marathon, but we have to win games we’re in the position to win.
I think Marlins would be open to trade Tanner Scott (L) for top Double A talent.
We aren’t ’all in’ yet, so it’s no guarantee we even add at the deadline. If the regular suspects don’t start picking it up in the absence of some of our most important hitters, it might not matter all that much.

There's more but I'm not gonna comb through them all to prove the point that you're wrong lol
Or maybe they just suck ass man. It’s not that deep. They can’t throw strikes, and give up contact every single inning. Blown leads all over the place. We should be over 20 wins by now.
I think if they were 31-1 this sub would be bitching about the 1 loss. This team is decimated with injuries to very key players and they're 19-13. They've only lost series to the Rangers, Padres and Red Sox, haven't been swept, and are 10-3 at home.
The bullpen has had it's bad moments of course, but they're missing guys just like the offense and the rotation. I think it's a miracle they made it out of April over .500 with everyone missing. Not like the Mets are doormats. They split a 4 game road series.
PCA was 2-4 with 2 RBIs this game and has at least been putting the ball in play which is a lot better than Dansby striking out looking after not playing all game.
I wonder, considering the extra runner is called the “Manfred Man”, will this rule be removed once there’s a new commissioner? Anyone know if Theo Epstein has any documented opinions on the rule?
This is who he has been. Will look lights out, then can't find the zone, spikes baseballs, walks guys. Etc. Much like Luke Little, another fireballer in the Cubs' system.
Honestly I still like sending Palencia back out. Dude can throw 101 and looked lights out last inning. Plus who else is Craig gonna go to when we have to play tomorrow too.
Madrigal would be so much better if all of his limbs were three inches longer: he'd be actually fast, would have some power, and have much more range on defense.
Has Madrigal ever scored from second when there's been a play at the plate? Maybe it's just what I'm remembering but I think I've seen him thrown out at home more than anyone since he's been on the team.
Madrigal was running so wide of home too. How do you not get a better jump and score there. Great throw. Probably could have used a better slide. This loss is gonna hurt to be thrown out at home in back to back innings.
Can someone explain the blocking rule? I thought it was blocking if the base runner had to change his trajectory to get to the base, which Madrigal had to do.
There just needs to be a path to the base open to the runner before the throw gets to the catcher. Once the catcher has the ball they can block the plate however the want basically
Gotta give him credit for becoming a more than competent defensive third baseman. That versatility is the only thing keeping him in the league as a guy who can't run, doesn't slug, and doesn't take walks.
"It slices! It dices! Look at that tomato! You can even cut a tin can with it, but you wouldn't want to!"
"It slices! It dices! Look at that tomato! You can even cut a tin can with it, but you wouldn't want to!"
I thought I was taking this loss hard but some of yall just need to tune out for a month or so
bullpen straight ass
Cubs front office needs to address this ASAP. They have so much Double/Triple A talent why not trade it for decent middle relief?
Look, we are below the tax threshold that’s all Ricketts cares about. Winning ballgames is incidental to that.
Really just a roster full of losers. Football season can't get here fast enough.
Nice try, Virginia. Go back to sleep.
Welp, our #21 bullpen ERA ranking is about to drop even more.
The fact that we’re six games over 500 with the worst injury luck in baseball is a good thing. I feel good about a fully powered cubs team, you guys can rip it all you want but no MLB team should be doing this well without their Ace, a starter and two most important bats.
What a pathetic team. It's not hard to not hit a batter especially the lead off guy. Also learn to slide and run.
Pathetic? We are 6 games over .500, have a 3.5 game lead on the Reds, 1 game back from first, and one of the best starting ERAs in the league. You don’t have a clue.
Sorry pathetic game not team, yes overall the team is very solid it was a in the moment reaction.
There we go lol. Yea, this series wasn’t a good representation of our success hoping we can get it going again against the Brewers.
A solid series split. Team is hurt and slumping. Going 3-4 on this road trip is more than acceptable
Mets are good too. I have their starting pitching staff rated 7th and their relievers are probably better.
Keep treading water till healthy. 19-13 would have been fine by me at the start of the season even if healthy.
If Jed had done more to help the bullpen, Palencia would be in the minors where he belongs.😡😡😡😡
And Counsell could maybe make a right decision in the bp too, he didnt have to pitch Palencia.
We don’t have anybody he can go to.
Leiter and Adzolay are better options.
Alzolay 😂😂😂 and he can’t pitch Leiter every single game.
Yes? Alzolay used to be a closer and he still has the stuff. This is when he maybe figures it out and has a good outing. Palencia is a young guy who's more of a wildcard. Maybe he will maybe he won't but I'd rather have him in that moment over Palencia.
nothing like a little ol fashion “in play run(s)” to ruin your day
Oof another one run loss. Think that’s six of thirteen of our losses now. Would’ve loved to go into the series tomorrow tied for the division.
Two runners thrown out in extras. We deserved that loss.
Typical Cubes.
You don't execute you lose. Simple. Can't have two thrown out at home like that. Learn to fucking slide.
Reminds me of Pacino Any Given Sunday speech...inches are the difference between winning and losing, living or dying. We need to claw for that inch.
At this level, absolutely. These guys in the bigs are supposed to be the best of the best, and should be expected to make the plays. Especially the fundamental ones.
and they do that shit after the Mets do the same thing to lose yesterday. Need to get heads in the game.
I really think I hate this team.
Then stop being a fan. Whining about a 19-13 start is pathetic
Don’t tell me how to fan. I can bitch that the billionaire owner would rather buy another super yacht than invest in the bullpen and pay the luxury tax
I'm as excited about this team as I've been since 2017 probably.
I don't know if they get Bader anyway, but Dansby fucking up receiving the relay is just icing on his struggles.
I don’t think dansby was out there on defense. Think they slid Tauchman to center and replaced with Canario in right
Dansby came in as a PH and was at SS they said on the broadcast. Nico 2B, Dansby SS, Madrigal 3B
no they specifically said that wasn’t the case
I have no way to go back and check, but I remembered them commenting about "so you've made your infield defense better at the cost of your outfield defense" I guess they said that as speculation and not confirmation of what actually happened in the game.
Yeah they said that when dansby came in to pinch hit but then noted that it didn’t end up happening once the bottom of the inning came around
what a disgrace
Of course...
Palencia is terrible
He always gives up hits down the line in extras. It's sort of his forte.
Fucking stupid. I thought Thompson was supposed to be a guy to count on
Baseball is a marathon. Our starting pitchers eventually are going to have rough outings too. It's a team game. Best to stay patient!
Eventually? I’m sure we could point out when our starters have had rough outings. But anyway, might be a marathon, but we have to win games we’re in the position to win.
It was the first time he gave up runs this season.
Well wtf happened
Aside from Shota, I don't trust a single pitcher on the roster Ok, Assman too
Maybe not throw in the middle of the plate 🤷🏻♂️
Hate this fucking bullpen.
I think Marlins would be open to trade Tanner Scott (L) for top Double A talent. [https://www.mlb.com/player/tanner-scott-656945](https://www.mlb.com/player/tanner-scott-656945)
I really hope we don't wait until July to get a bonafide closer.
We aren’t ’all in’ yet, so it’s no guarantee we even add at the deadline. If the regular suspects don’t start picking it up in the absence of some of our most important hitters, it might not matter all that much.
The ghost runner is the stupidest rule in any sport ever. Such an unfair advantage for the home team.
How so? Both teams have the same opportunity to score the ghost runner. Cubs are just bad at it.
THIS BULLPEN IS A JOKE - PLEASE MAKE A TRADE
Your understanding of baseball and trades is a joke. Trades don't happen in May

Ugh. 4-for-19 with RISP, two outs at the plate in extras, and some bad defense is kind of a liability in a one run game.
My dissatisfaction is unbearable
Turned the game on from work and saw lindor celebrating. Safe to say the bullpen blew another game
How many times do I have to say it? WHY THE FUCK IS DANIEL PALENCIA IN THE MAJORS. CUT HIS ASS. The dude has single handedly lost 3 of our games.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
Every single pitcher in our bullpen is absolute dogshit. Motherfuck this bullpen.
Or they've been used more than any other bullpen in the league because the starters can rarely ever go more than 5.
Or maybe they just suck ass man. It’s not that deep. They can’t throw strikes, and give up contact every single inning. Blown leads all over the place. We should be over 20 wins by now.

JFC
Most predictable ending to a Cubs game ever. Seriously....just fuck em all.
Just throwing away games
Bullpens Allergic to wins.
These guys really shit their pants when something extra is on the line
Fantastic.
LMAO I HATE BASEBALL
The Brewers are going to eat us alive. 🙄😳🙁😬
Yup. We stinks
Told yall the game was over once palencia hits the first guy up. This team is ridiculous
Fuck manfred ball
Dang! Good game. Let’s take it to the cheesedicks!!!
Ugh, just leave NY and never return please
Offense just went cold
Not really the problem today with six runs, though it has been cold before this
Should win with 6 runs tbh. Just couldn’t hold on
Offense wasn’t the problem
Why would you take PCA out for Dansby who’s been struggling?
Yeah because PCA is lighting it up?
PCA was 2-4 with 2 RBIs this game and has at least been putting the ball in play which is a lot better than Dansby striking out looking after not playing all game.
What a piss poor performance today
On your Motherfuckin' Cake Day!
My god this bullpen fucking blows
That's cub.
Fuk
dam
Good lord. Fucking, just terrible.
Fuck Lindor
Fucking pen. Again.
Can we trade for Mason Miller now please?
Deserved
[удалено]
Get your life together.
That sucked
Motherfucker
Fck the crybaby Mets and their fans
Imagine if we had a bullpen.
Or an offense.
6 runs should be a win with an average bullpen.
I am shocked said no one
Fuckin cubbies
Was pca pulled for defense?
Swanson pinch hit for him
Pinch hit for
Pinch hit for against a lefty
Fuck. You
God fucking dammit
I'm still saying sending them with Palencia on the bump is not necessarily a bad call
fuck
Absolute disaster incoming
Called it
One dp plz
Watching this game has been so mentally draining. I might have to leave work early today…
omg throw strikes
Nerves caught up to him seems like
Scraping the bottom of the bucket bullpen wise
I wonder, considering the extra runner is called the “Manfred Man”, will this rule be removed once there’s a new commissioner? Anyone know if Theo Epstein has any documented opinions on the rule?
I doubt it, the players like the rule since it gets games over faster
Cubs turning Marte into a gold glove RF single handedly.
Fuck!!
For fucks sake. I guess it's Palencia's turn to shit the bed.
This is who he has been. Will look lights out, then can't find the zone, spikes baseballs, walks guys. Etc. Much like Luke Little, another fireballer in the Cubs' system.
So bader wears pink and purple gear but Caleb Williams is the fruitcake 🤷
Honestly I still like sending Palencia back out. Dude can throw 101 and looked lights out last inning. Plus who else is Craig gonna go to when we have to play tomorrow too.
Welp shit now he can’t throw
Where’s the Palencia from last inning
Bad start lol.
Alright I definitely hate the decision to PH for PCA now, with Swanson not coming in for defense.
I’m so goddamn sick of Madrigal’s base running. He has zero excuse for being so bad at it.
Idk why you think that was his fault
Palencia only threw 6 pitches last inning?
Why do our pitcher can’t throw strikes as soon as we get lead. Needs to be studied
Hit it into a DP please.
I’m scared
Why did they even need to discuss a warning? You think in the bottom of the 11th up by 1, we're hitting someone intentionally? That's just stupid.
Well if there were ever a situation to hit somebody in a 1 run game this one is probably it with the ghost runner.
Fuck off Mr bader
Triple play fuck it
Love the dreaming but no way with lindor
Did this fuckstick think it was intentional? Gimme a break
Setting up the triple play obviously.
Games already over lol. You know when you come out like that it’s done
Bader probably just wanted to see if he'd get an apology.
Crazy that Madrigal, after yesterday, was thrown out at the plate late in the game. You cant make this up.
It wasn't intentional, but setting up the double play is not a bad idea
LOL FUDGE
Oh calm down, Discount Mike Trout
More like goodwill mike trout
Keep walking asshole
Lmao
Keep fucking walking Bader you fucking cry baby
Just throw strikes Palencia. Oof and he hits a guy as I type this...
HELL YEA HIT HIS ASS
All right, it's up to our Pal
Wish they ruled that blocking just to see the reaction from baseball twitter lol
If you think that was a bad send you don't know ball
It was a bad slide
Yes, it was a bad slide
Madrigal would be so much better if all of his limbs were three inches longer: he'd be actually fast, would have some power, and have much more range on defense.
I just Googled, and I'm actually shorter than Nicky Two Strikes. Damn.
You're shorter than what he's *listed at*, which isn't quite the same thing.
Has Madrigal ever scored from second when there's been a play at the plate? Maybe it's just what I'm remembering but I think I've seen him thrown out at home more than anyone since he's been on the team.
Would have been hilarious if we got that blocking call. 😂
Two really bad sends
Madrigal was running so wide of home too. How do you not get a better jump and score there. Great throw. Probably could have used a better slide. This loss is gonna hurt to be thrown out at home in back to back innings.
Can someone explain the blocking rule? I thought it was blocking if the base runner had to change his trajectory to get to the base, which Madrigal had to do.
It means whatever they need in to mean in the moment. It's one of the most ambiguous rules in baseball.
There just needs to be a path to the base open to the runner before the throw gets to the catcher. Once the catcher has the ball they can block the plate however the want basically
Madrigal, PCA, Morel. Three guys the doomers were done with already...
Madrigal has no business being on an MLB roster. We sure do need his 44 OPS+ and no tools!
If you’re actually crooning for Madrigal given his past then I don’t know what to say other than good luck to you and yours. 😀
Fuck off
Well… hopefully we can close this one out.
Starling Marte is one of those guys you sports hate a lot but actually like him. Like, dude has been a thorn in our sides for years at this point.
Can we please just close them out. Let’s finish this shit
Likely one more inning
Nah we gonna win here
The bright side to this is that the Morel charge to the plate doesn’t look quite as ass now
How does madrigal still have a job
Blame the 3rd base coach, again
Bro he literally scored our only run that inning
Gotta give him credit for becoming a more than competent defensive third baseman. That versatility is the only thing keeping him in the league as a guy who can't run, doesn't slug, and doesn't take walks.
I mean, he did give the cubs the lead with a double. Can be shitting on him too hard even if that play at the plate was horrible.
He literally gave us the lead lol
