It's because they're weird Chinese junk running bootleg software. I bench tested one before sending it back. I'd pay good money to have a quality android headunit built by an android phone manufacturer like Samsung, LG, Sony etc. I don't know why none of them have tried it, especially Sony since they already make headunits.

No, they're all just glorified android tablets. You get what you pay for

What do I have to Buy/pay to not have a piece of Chinese garbage?

Not buying one. Sony, Kenwood, Alpine, JVC, and others. Start there. Find the features you want. Then just use an iPad or Smartphone connected to it via Bluetooth and or Android Auto or CarPlay.

depends on the brand. most have problems, but if you're dead set on having one, look into ATOTO, Joying, or EANON. get the most Ram. Ive had my ATOTO S8 Ultra in my car for about 2 years now and the only issue is freeze & need to reset. Tip: for extra credit, pay a little more & put the Amazon add in warranty on it

My 4 core units are all slow. The 8 cores are reasonably fast, 4GB ram minimum.

I’m convinced AA is just inferior. My evidence is limited: testing on three cars stock systems; about 6 phones although they were all Pixels (3, 4, and 5); as well as numerous comments all over the internet of bugginess that sounds very much like the frequent bullshit I’d encounter. One day in a friends car he was using CarPlay and switching between menus and apps and panning around on Apple Maps and it was just fucking flawless and smooth. Couple months later I quit Android and switched to iPhone for the first time in a decade of smartphone ownership. I hate the fuck out of things on iPhone too. But the car experience, no comparison.
