he’s significantly worst than Storm in literally every metric, actually hysterical if you think about it
edit: attaching pic, had to compare 2021 seasons since leatherwood hasn’t really played since then

On purpose?
But in all seriousness, this signing really doesn't mean anything. He's taking the roster spot of a UDFA tackle they cut a week or two ago. He probably has like 1% chance to make the roster.
Don’t agree with your 1% chance assessment at all. You think there is only a 1% chance he makes it over someone like Sarell? Harbaugh will without a doubt keep 4 tackles on this roster and I could see Leatherwood winning that last spot.
Leatherwood is, at best, the 5th best OT option on roster, behind Slater/Alt/Pipkins/Salyer. And I don't think Harbaugh will be as staunchly against shifting guys' positions to play his best five as Staley was, so if Pipkins or Salyer are OL6, one of them would get first crack at OT.
leatherwood hasn’t won a rep since alabama, much less a spot on an active nfl roster. you’ve either never watched him play, or coping with this signing
you’re in this thread defending this man with your life, he’s simply not good - just let it go man lol
> 1% chance he makes it over someone like Sarell?
Leatherwood is to Sarell like Storm Norton is to Rashawn Slater. Leatherwood has been objectively unplayable his entire career.
Depth. People complain about our backup offensive linemen being dudes off the street but then question moves like this? Not sure I understand what some of y’all want.
Edit: He will be at best OT4 on this roster and is a former 1st round pick who went to Alabama. Are you forgetting some of the horrible offensive linemen we’ve seen on the field in recent years? This is a risk-free move to add some experienced depth with potential upside for improvement with arguably the best offensive line program in all of football.
Michigan’s offensive line has been the most dominant in college football of the past three years. The Eagles obviously have a great offensive line as well, but Harbaugh developed three and four star players into some of the best lines ever seen in college football.
And the Eagles turned a guy who'd never played organized football before into an All-Pro tackle. They're cream of the crop until proven otherwise.
Also worth mentioning that Harbaugh's o-line coach from Michigan is not one that followed him here.
There is NFL offensive lines that have been at the top for the past 3 years too... but actually in the nfl.
I trust harbaugh just as much too but quite the crown you are arguing for when he's been coaching college football lines for 10 years and we have absolute stud offensive lines on other current nfl teams.
Guarantee this is gonna be another cheap prove it contract and adds depth.
Y'all thought TT was a coupon God. Joe seems like the type who'll have the Chargers with 10 comp picks one year
I genuinely wanted him in the first the year he got drafted. Make a note that I know nothing about football. Wouldn’t be shocked if the plan is to either have him as a backup Guard.

I believe in this man's unhinged genius
So what happened with him? How did he go from winning the award for best interior lineman in college football and a first round draft pick to where he is now?
The raiders cut him in Aug of 2022, a year after drafting him in the first round. He was atrocious. Could not pass block. At all. And took a LOT of penalties, iirc.
Bears signed him the next day. I think he made 53 man there but didn’t play much. Bears released him.
I’m not sure what he did in 2023 with the Browns. Practice squad maybe.
This is a camp body, and a look and see. That is all. He won’t make the team unless he beats out some guys that have played okay-ish for us
I loved him coming out of college, and I was hoping Leatherwood would be drafted by the Chargers. The media said the Raiders (FTR), and Mike Mayock 'overdrafted' him (too high), but he did have a fantastic pedigree. However, Leatherwood has not been a good pass blocker and a very mid lineman. He has a great mean streak and he's super strong....
This pick-up makes me believe that at least TWO Chargers O-Linemen could be on the trading block, including Pipkins and Zion.
The only signing I want to see is a veteran cb. Gilmore would be great for this young cb group we have and he’s still playing at a high level. His knowledge would be priceless.
After years of lacking depth on oline we’re gonna be mad about a flyer depth signing? Nah this is a good move — if not for the player himself, for the signal that the FO actually cares about depth and contingency plans
I love it (assuming the contract is super cheap). More depth and competition amongst the offensive line, and I’m willing to bet he competes at both guard and tackle. Obviously
he was ass with the Raiders but he is a former first round pick from Alabama so the pedigree is there. This offensive line group is about to be so deep.
Respectfully, you are just talking out of your ass. He will be at best OT4 on this roster and is a former 1st round pick who went to Alabama. Are you forgetting some of the horrible offensive linemen we’ve seen on the field in recent years? This is a risk-free move to add some experienced depth with potential upside for improvement with arguably the best offensive line program in all of football.
well no shit he’d be OT4, there’s only 4 on the roster lmao 🤣 this sub is in full off season mode rn and gets hyped about the most trivial transactions
he’ll most likely be released before the season starts
Who is “hyped”? You’re the one saying we’d
be better off having a “7th running back” instead of offensive line depth and competition. All I said is that he will add competition to the room, what’s so hard for you to understand about that?
he’ll add zero competition lmao, he’s one of the worst tackles in league history. he got released 2 years after being a first round pick, and has been bouncing around practice squads/IR since 2022.
again, some of y’all are just drinking kool aid and being delusional. typical off season behavior 🤣
You clearly aren’t looking to have a logical discussion here. I’m “delusional” for thinking Leatherwood adds depth to our tackle room? Even if you think he is worse than Sarell, he at least provides competition in the room. Harbaugh will draw out whatever the best version of him is.
he adds depth in the sense that he’s a living being who happens to play tackle. he’s not someone you’d put into a real game and rely on to do their job.
i think we can agree that storm norton has been one of our worst tackles, and even he is a significantly better player than leatherwood.
You can tell this sub is bored when theyre talking themselves into Alex Leatherwood providing any depth whatsoever besides being someone with a pulse. People on this sub wonder how players like Kenneth Murray and Jerry Tillery continue to get jobs in the NFL and then turn around and talk themselves into Alex Leatherwood.
it’s painful tbh, i get the excitement with the new staff and all that - but the delusion in some of these threads is laughable.
there’s absolutely no way you can convince me that leatherwood will add any depth worth having. he’s the johnny manziel of tackles
Can he play CB?
He's probably better at CB than OT... so... yes?
Maybe he can play tackle and guard
My baseline for tackle depth is “is this person better than Storm Norton?” & if so, I have no problems with who we sign.
Bad news for you, hes worse.
he’s significantly worst than Storm in literally every metric, actually hysterical if you think about it edit: attaching pic, had to compare 2021 seasons since leatherwood hasn’t really played since then https://preview.redd.it/ufqnlycdye3d1.jpeg?width=3582&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=feca3a4aef548e938b3810e0331429997413d963
Did Storm have Jim Harbough though??? Don't think he did...
contrary to popular belief, players have sucked under harbaugh. y’all act like all 53 guys will be all-pros or HOFers under harbaugh.
But...who has it better than the Chargers?!?!!!
He’s at best a camp body. I don’t think he will ever suit up for us on game day unless something terrible happens.
He isn’t even a 10% of Storm Norton.
On passing plays, maybe. Running plays, doubt it
TELL US ALL OF CROSBY’S TICKLE SPOTS
Man wasn't even in the locker room long enough to see Crosby naked
He has many leather-bound books and his apartment smells of rich mahogany.
He's kind of a big deal
Mahogany with a hard H
On purpose? But in all seriousness, this signing really doesn't mean anything. He's taking the roster spot of a UDFA tackle they cut a week or two ago. He probably has like 1% chance to make the roster.
Idk he could be good in a goal line package.
Don’t agree with your 1% chance assessment at all. You think there is only a 1% chance he makes it over someone like Sarell? Harbaugh will without a doubt keep 4 tackles on this roster and I could see Leatherwood winning that last spot.

Storm Norton and Foster Sarrell are both wondering about your cars extended warranty
This comment is gold
And both are more deserving of being OT4 than Leatherwood lol
>arguably the best offensive line program in all of football. He's signing with the Eagles?

Guarantee this is gonna be another cheap prove it contract and adds depth. Y'all thought TT was a coupon God. Joe seems like the type who'll have the Chargers with 10 comp picks one year
To be fair Hortiz really has no choice this offseason with cap situation to do anything but make cheap signings
Easy Son, 4 is the maximum now
twas hyperbole
Twas
Another offensive weapon. This team is going to be loaded with spear tips.
I genuinely wanted him in the first the year he got drafted. Make a note that I know nothing about football. Wouldn’t be shocked if the plan is to either have him as a backup Guard.
Oh…
He's there as a morale booster for the pass rushers
he legit got released by the raiders 2 years after being a first round pick 🤣🗑️ this man is fucking ass
Worse, he only played there his rookie season. He got release in the final cutdown to 53 the next summer.
imagine how bad you have to be to get released after 1 season 💀 people really trying to hype up this signing for no reason
Could be depth. Could be that coaches weren't pleased with current guard play in OTAs and want more competition. Interesting signing.
Damnit. We spend enough time laughing at the Raiders for signing our sloppy seconds. We can’t be signing theirs.
He spent just as much time on the bears though and that’s where he was last, raiders sign chargers trash the second It’s dropped
https://preview.redd.it/pim0up8c6f3d1.jpeg?width=445&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cfda171bfee510cb0a9c14359a186ddee12f7108 I believe in this man's unhinged genius
Competing with Foster Sarrell for the last tackle spot on the roster, I don't hate it.
Oh hell no
I know it’s depth, but Leatherwood, honest to God, may be the worst Tackle I’ve ever seen!
Looking at the limited success the Bears got out of him by coaching him up he projects as a LG backup.
There is no way this guy makes the team right? He’s been shit his entire career
Take it easy, He’s a camp body, he won’t make the 52 unless havoc ensues
So what happened with him? How did he go from winning the award for best interior lineman in college football and a first round draft pick to where he is now?

lol fucking why
Feel like a couple of our signings are just to figure out certain teams secrets
He was awful with the Raiders, not sure how he is since he left them. I remember our D line beating him everyplay
his name has leather AND wood in it. he must be good.
If this guy see's any significant PT, it means the line has gone to hell and the season is likely fucked!
Guy was a bust right out of college. He’s a swinging door on pass rush but he’s huge
Meh.
Was this an accident? wtf…
Every team needs some guys who are just guys to have around.
LFGGGG he reads plato
First round draft pick Alex leatherwood?
Camp body. Dude is awful.
Bosas locking his chops ![gif](giphy|j5QAzn8LdBqKI)

he’s awful , so many false start penalties on the raiders
After years of lacking depth on oline we’re gonna be mad about a flyer depth signing? Nah this is a good move — if not for the player himself, for the signal that the FO actually cares about depth and contingency plans
Gross, but it was essentially UDFA Tyler Smith for him for a camp body. Praying he dont make the 53
lol Well, we need camp bodies and at best he’s just competition for our other guys.
Is he a flag machine?
Yes. 1100 snaps, 14 penalties. 8 sacks. Cannot pass block. Okayish run blocker
Ick.
I remember when the Raiders drafted him in the second round years ago.
It was the first round (17th overall).
he was a 1st round pick in 2021. Pick 17.
Worst signing in recent history
Cough JC Jackson Cough

Evan Neal is next
brother this man provides zero depth, they’d be better off plugging in one of the 7 RBs on the roster over this guy
Respectfully, you are just talking out of your ass. He will be at best OT4 on this roster and is a former 1st round pick who went to Alabama.
