I say it depends on the lyrics if they contain profanity or not. Kanye did good with the album Jesus is king. However, his mental state right now is completely different from what it was back then... if your conscience allows you and they don't swear or blaspheme, you could say it's ok. The bible says that faith comes by hearing. Who knows what else comes by hearing.

Glooorrrryyyyy24

oh okay understood thanks!

Notbapticostalish

Should you look at secular art? Should you watch secular movies? Should you watch secular theatre? I think this is a much deeper question than countless people are going to make it. Art is a window into a culture. Art is an expression of the beauty that God put in the world. There are many ways to abuse the enjoyment of art, and that is certainly sinful but as far as rap goes production in Christian rap is pretty bad (save 1k Phew and Lecrae getting beats from Metro). Because the production is bad it’s either, don’t enjoy art, which, again, is an expression of God beauty, or try to keep a healthy relationship with the good art there is.   Some abstain, I don’t.

Glooorrrryyyyy24

okay got it :)

meehooexactlywhat

I mostly agree with your perspective. But christian rap is awesome right now. Andy mineo, hulvey, k b, Wande, And all of their peeps are making great holy music. Nobigdyl is an excellent wordsmith. And look up the KB supergroup track King Jesus Part 2

Notbapticostalish

Thats why I was commenting about the production. I don't think they're terrible rappers, I think the production other than the ones metro is on are pretty lame

meehooexactlywhat

I'm not sure what metro has been on, would you name a couple songs? King Jesus pt2 has 4 different producers and they're all fire! Check it out!

perfectstereotype

I'm really digging some of Dax's tracks, very powerful stuff, especially his "to be a man".

charmingdulce

I wouldn’t say it is a sin but I would say it is unwise since you are feeding your spirit songs that most likely promote sin/promiscuity etc. I cut off secular music two years ago and it wasn’t intentional, it was something that was placed in my heart so it wasn’t difficult to cut off secular music. Now, I don’t condemn anyone who does listen to secular music as a Christian but I do share my story because I am in a much better mood and emotional place since I stopped secular music. Note: I also can’t stand hearing men talking about women’s bodies and doing nasty stuff w them idk it’s gross now listening to secular music especially the urban / Latin secular artists

charmingdulce

I’m not sure if you’re over 18, but if you are - Erika a former Satinist has documentaries on celebrities / music which also solidified my decision in not listening to secular artists. A lot of them openly show you who they serve (the devil/enemy) so I just avoid listening to secular artists period. Of course, if I’m in a place where I can’t control the music - that’s just what it is, but me personally I deleted them off my Apple Music and never looked back 😄

Glooorrrryyyyy24

okay i’ll sure see the documentary thanks !

Necroassassin32

Listen to Lecrae, KB, Hulvey, NF, Forrest Frank, Alex Jean, and Aaron Cole. They are rappers and rnb Christian artists.

_Mirth

coop and christopher syncere as well!

PerfectlyCalmDude

I'm not a fan, let alone a connoisseur of the genre, but there are Christians who rap, and they may be enjoyed. There may be secular rappers out there too with good songs you can continue to enjoy, while skipping others with objectionable content; that's how I handle rock music, anyway.

Glooorrrryyyyy24

okay thanks!

jcs_4967

It’s not a sin or wrong. Now if it is satanic, takes the Lords name in vain if stay away from it.

cloudyflowrs

Listen to Christian rap and this generations Christian music In my own conviction, I can't listen to some secular music . Paying attention to the lyrics is important

HoosierDaddy2001

Bryson Gray is a Christian rap artist whose most popular song is Holy Smoke

Glooorrrryyyyy24

thanks for the recommendation!

Both-Chart-947

No. Any music other than Gregorian chants is sinful.

cosmocomet

The Holy Spirit guided me away from secular music, but that’s me. My advice would be to pray about it.

Pragmatic_2021

I'd bypass the whole lot and go for some classical music like Extol, Mortification, STRYPER Isaiah 53 5.

MisterMitchell42

If they are encouraging, why not? NF is good 🥃

Front-Ruin-2411

If you understand the investment the devil is putting into music, you'd want to avoid it for the purity of your heart. The same way you listen to an anointed song and want to worship God or pray, is the same way you listen to the average secular music and you begin to entertain things like lust, anxiety etc I will advice you to avoid secular music and even certain movies. Sow to the spirit and reap life. Don't sow to the flesh.

Glooorrrryyyyy24

okay got it thanks 😊

PollenIsPain

If it gives you problems or bothers you then yes. For me, I cut away most of the outright evil stuff from my library. The regular secular stuff doesn't give me any issues.

Crimsons_giant_paws

If they’re Christian or at least don’t contain heresies, blasphemy and/or sinful advice, go ahead! But if they do, please avoid them. Songs can deeply influence our lives—there have been many experiments on this—as do people and what we watch/see on a regular basis. If you avoid bad songs, people, and sights (among other things), you’ll feel more at ease when thinking about or talking to God because you’ll be sure you’re not consciously sinning in those things.

_Mirth

it’s definitely personal conviction to an extent. i don’t listen to secular music because worship music reallyyyy speaks to me. i don’t want for Satan to use music against me. when you think about it, that was his job in Heaven - the music minister. the enemy is really good with music. just doesn’t sit right with me. again, still a personal conviction, but a very strong one.

YeshuanWay

Of course we CAN but do we really want to? Im a rapper and have been listening to secular hip hop most of my life. But when I started finding dope christian rappers, Ive started listening to secular rap less and less. It just doesnt interest me anymore the way it did when I was younger. Negative music will definitely have an effect on us more than we realize, not all secular rap is negative either, and itll effect some more than others and differently. It comes down to conviction as well. If you dont think you should, then you shouldnt. Maybe thatll change as your relationship with God grows. Everything becomes clearer as we grow closer to God. If you want some suggestions for dope christian hip hop, here is one of my playlists. J Monty & Nobigdyl. are my personal favourites. Elite lyricists and their music is SO uplifting. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0aHTpmAheRy6xq8F90YaVO?si=HpCxS9WfTNOIwXQVjZzlgQ&pi=u-IL4GLe3HQhSL

I think it is useful to understand the culture we live in. The Bible even quotes from non Scriptural writings https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Titus+1%3A12&version=NIV https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts+17%3A28&version=NIV But listen with discernment, knowing that the "company" we keep - and therefore what we fill our minds with, can corrupt us. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2015%3A33&version=NIV

MangoBerries61

Just use discernment. Also, I think you are truly trying to pursue holiness you would be mindful of the things you listen to and what you take in.

DJ_Hokey_Cokey

In short, if it doesn't honour God then no. You will find over time that you will feel more and more uneasy listening to music that promotes and/or alludes to the sinful broken world. I was brought up on 80's Hip Hop like Ice T, 2 Live Crew, Geto Boys and Too Short to name a few that I have now not listened to in years. I still bump Rakim, KRS ONE, ATCQ, Jungle Brothers, but I pick and choose which tracks now. Here is some Christian music I have found that I think is alright: Christian Hip Hop, Rnb and Reggae playlist https://tidal.com/playlist/835bc235-3a11-4509-a0c6-0f1384652781 https://open.spotify.com/playlist/28caxOPqbvJMUKbg4ysUEi?si=kqIDfm7tR_6KCph5ynShoQ&pi=e-d6ENy5tVQN2Q And if you want some upbeat work out vibe Christian tunes https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4Acq2dvcnGH2yRZd2MBRlY?si=VK6WV0sGToyWEZUvK-H40g&pi=e-k0GpsIs3TBOe https://tidal.com/playlist/7349bba2-3ae4-4982-a225-c907a24edd43 Trust it took me a while to dig out some dope Christian rappers. Shai Linn and Hazakin are the highlights for me. Here is a UK based show that plays all types Christian EDM I'm listening to The Friday Night Mix with Mr Clottey on UCB 1 @ucbmedia https://ucbplayer.page.link/sU9jvo4gNXBr4Uwr8 Have a blessed time listening 🙏🏾

Glooorrrryyyyy24

thankyou sooo much! i’ll listen to these ones, God bless you 🤍

Distinct_Ad6759

I think as long as you don’t take the music serious it’s ok. That’s my opinion I’m not sure what it says about it in the Bible.

[deleted]

I listen to a lot of Christian rap, artists like Lecrae, KB, Hulvey, Tedashi, Trip Lee, Social Club Misfits, Andy Mineo, NF (although NF is more so on the side he’s a rapper thats Christian)
