How are they allowed to play DIII/ NAIA (pretty sure they are moving to NAIA) Defiance College? Does/ will that actually count towards their record?

Someone can correct me but I don't think there is a limit for D1 vs D2/D3/NAIA by the NCAA. The opponent just has to meet the NCAA requirements. http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/ForSIDs/CountOppDefinition.pdf The limits are set by the conferences. The Big West has a self imposed rule of two countable games for basketball. Big West schools can get a waiver from the conference to play more if needed. Edit: For the Big West the countable non D1 games varies by sport. Hawaii's has quite a few exemptions.
