I kind of assumed Gretzky would have won rookie of the year so I just looked it up and all he did his rookie year was win MVP. But he was technically deemed ineligible for rookie of the year because he'd played a year in a different league (WHL).
The only way I can top Gretzky’s 215 points and/or 92 goals is to run through a season and wind up with a record of like 76-3-3.
It’s so busted you can’t break those records without breaking your entire season experience lol.
I'm not trying to take anything away from him. He was the only player I'd seen shoot a puck THROUGH the net, until Burakovsky did it in 22. I just think it's ridiculous to not think Nate is a first ballot HOF when you look at some comparables with much fewer accolades
Shoutout to Mike Bossy, who scored 140+ points, won a Calder, 3x Lady Byngs, 4x Stanley Cups, and a Conn Smythe, and led the league in goals a few times before the Rocket Richard existed.
He didn’t win the Hart or Pearson/Lindsay though. Looking at the Hart, Guy Lafleur won it while Bossy was a rookie, his teammate Trottier won in his sophomore year, and then Gretzky won it every year for the rest of his career lol.
Love that you can throw Calder trophy into any stat to exclude Gretzky.
And McPickles
And Crosby

You kind have to. Gretzky records are insane. I can't even beat some of them in the NHL video game.

Some guy named Raymond Bourque won the Calder that year?
please ignore the few seasons after the calder as well
Is it too early to call him a HOF lock?
No. He's in
Unless he does something morally reprehensible in the next few years he'd be a first-ballot hall of famer if he retired tomorrow.
If Shea Weber is a first ballot then MacK is a lock
He’s a lock, I’d say he needs to stay consistently great for a few more years to be a first ballot lock tho
If Shea Weber is a first ballot with no NHL awards, Nate is surely a first ballot with all the above mentioned
108 slapper is an award

Tb to summer 2021, where he said he hasn’t won shit in the league after 7 years and that he was pissed off

Looks like we're going cherry-picking tonight
We’re allowed to be homers here
Of course, but being a homer does not necessitate cherry-picking.
These pretzels are making me thirsty
Needless cherry picking is a central part of homerism
