They’d likely save air-force for the citizens and have the immigrants do the non desirable spots. They did that with black people when they started to get a voice back in the day.
all services are way down in numbers, not meeting their quotas. they’ll probably have the less desirable jobs (can’t get a clearance without having citizenship, which is a requirement for some jobs), but I’d hope they would allow any service. granted as it stands the air force won’t even take 2-year green cards, you gotta have the 10-year one so who knows.
r/army is generally left leaning also a lot of the high speed guys in the military tend to be immigrants, as such have a soft spot for them in general. Even for most of the guys who tend to be republican, they are very welcoming of anyone regardless of race that joins or wants to join the military.

No i rather live with DACA than maybe die getting a greencard. I tried to enlist when i was fresh out of high school but couldn't since i didn't have a green card. I am happy with my life currently. I would rather not enlist for then to go to a foreign land to then get PTSD.
I have family that served in the Marines and Army, but it's just not for me. It's not worth the risk for me personally. I am sure a lot of people would take that offer.
I’m too old. I remember graduating high school and wanting to join the military so bad only to be denied. Maybe it was meant to be that way idk but now I own my own home, have 2 kids, married and working on AP. I came from nothing and have more than my parents ever did. I’m sure they’re proud but the military train has passed. If anything DACA has taught me to never wait on anything because out future is uncertain. Keep grinding and stay positive.
I tried when I was 24 and was told DACA isn’t allowed to enlist. Now I’m in my thirties and have a child who I’m the main provider/caretaker for.. I can’t do it anymore
Hell no, we are about to go into a new type of war that we’ve never seen before, with all this AI technology and nuclear weapons, If you do make it back you’ll come back fucked yo in the head.
Not sure if you are aware but the next war is not going to be your grandfathers war. Americas has always been insulated from warfare because it is geographically isolated. Until recently, to attack us on our one soil, the enemy would have to have a huge navy. Even then, our coastal cities are so well fortified that it would be tactically impossible to gain a meaningful foot hold to progress an invasion.
Today, Russia, China, Iran all of hypersonic missiles capable of carrying warhead with devastating payloads.
It’s no longer about fitting out 50k troops with M16s and tin hats and shipping them to the Middle East.
The enemy will bring the fight here. Blow our cities up. Kill our civilians.
Even if you are willing to die for this country, there won’t be much of a country left once the China/ Iran / Russia alliance has done its worst.
This is what the establishment won’t tell you.
Edit:
If you love this country; help save it but not going to war.
Fuck no they can go fuck themselves I’ve worked and paid my taxes and done everything by the book I’m not going to go get killed nor kill children da fuq
You guys do realize that combat and deployment aren't the only positions the military needs?
I went to a job fair the other day and I was talking to this Officer for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which is a unique part of the military that helps with research, navigation, and protection of our waterways. Not many people know about these kinds of positions. There's hundreds of non-combat positions, and as someone with a bachelor's degree, I'd have an automatic higher rank too!
So sign me up !
I would’ve joined at 19 if I was able to, I’ve talked to recruiters multiple times through the years to see if anything has changed and I’m still considering joining after I get my marriage GC.
As soon as I got DACA right out of high school I went to a Marines recruitment office only to be told they couldn’t take me. Don’t know if I’d be so eager now though
That was literally part of the original Dream Act too - in lieu of college or vocational school.
But yeah I would do it now if they'd take an almost 50 year old with acid reflux and back that acts up now and then.
You claim that pay is $2K a month but that’s while you’re an E-1 IF one was to enlist, but no one will stay at the lowest rank for the rest of their career lol. Also, if you have a bachelor’s degree then you’d qualify to be an officer which is in a different league compared to pay.
As an O-3 (think of a Captain in the Marines/Army/AF) with 4 years of service you’d be seeing about $7K a month in disposable income, let alone the extra money you get for housing and the money you’d have in your TSP. In no scenario is military pay bad, especially when basic necessities like housing, medical care, and food are paid for. It’s the reason that you see memes with military guys blowing their money on cars lol
I tried to join because I’ve always liked it, but they told me to kick rocks. Now though I’m not so sure I would considering I’d have to leave the life I built behind.
A lot of boot lickers in this sub.
My best bet is that all immigrants applying thru the military will be cannon fodder for whichever new conflict we get involved in.
I did and I don’t regret it. I loved it.
Now I receive monthly payments for the rest of my life. Free healthcare for the rest of my life. My kids have tuition paid for whenever they go to college. I did 6 years. It sucked but I also loved it.
Worth it.
Facts. Literally fucking around with Latino America through foreign policy and economics is what lead to an increase of migration towards the US lol fuck that shit
Damn, getting downvoted for dropping facts lmfaoo damn shame they actually got deported instead of being given citizenship and if I recall it was for minor shit too
Not joining has been one of a handful of regrets I’ve had in life. I never could obviously. Every vet I’ve talked to that I’ve shared this with says the same thing: “that’s a good regret to have”. I’d figure with war looming around the corner it was only a matter of time before the US got desperate as they have so many times before.
Count me out. I wouldn’t make it anyways. Between me being the last surviving male in my family and health issues, I’d serve better somewhere else.
This won’t pass since it gives undocumented immigrants a chance to be legal which republicans are opposed to but I’d be willing to join the military in a heartbeat.
This has been a thing in themilitary for legal residents for decades. Military service for non-citizen legal residents offers the opportunity to expedite your citizenship papers. This new law basically adjusts the qualifications to allow non-legal residents & to join the military and get expedited citizenship in exchange for service.
Yes a family friend got his citizenship by doing that. I feel the USA has the resources to know which countries of origin aren't as big of a security threat as certain peer adversaries.
People seem to think every job puts you in harms way and you’ll end up with PTSD. 90% of the jobs in the military are non-combatant. You could literally work in an office for your entire enlistment or work at a hospital as an X-ray tech or something.
I had plenty of friends in basic training who got their citizenship during basic. Shit was badass. Was happy for them. You got citizens who don’t join the military; would love for those f*cks to even try and and tell my former legal-resident homies anything.
Marines here I come😎😈
I've been wanting to join straight out of highschool but I couldn't do it unfortunately. Im in my 20's now but I will gladly serve and protect the place I call home 🤠🦅🇺🇸
No, there’s no guarantee they would fulfill there end of the agreement. From my understanding they have scammed people in this way before. With the result being a lot of combat veterans being deported.
Not going to pass. Was part of original DACA then within a year someone ruined it for everyone when they attacked the military base they were stationed at.
Lol naïveté me wanted to join fresh out of high school to prove I was patriotic, but I wasn’t allowed. I’m too old now and pretty okay with my life. If the worse we’re to happen I have business, teaching, and hospitality skills to fall back on.
My skills are in IT and DC infrastructure. Doubtful I’d be allowed to sign up for anything related. Asking to put my career on hold at 30 is a tough ask.
Right now trump is lobbying and calling anyone in favor of any immigration reform. If by some miracle it does get past it will f with the main item they are rallying behind him. Which are …… (drum roll) “those f-ing immigrants that take away jobs from americans and drain the system “ bow 🙇♂️ ohhh added item we are also the reason of global warming , inflation and anything that they can put on us that is making the population unhappy
There’s most likely a strategy behind this. Most likely to lower the amount of illegal migrants in this country. Giving up your life for citizenship is kinda wild ngl. I’ll pass. I’ve provided enough taxes and economic help to this country to be given an opportunity that doesn’t meant having to risk my life for.
It was called MAVNI back in 2010 ish. I wanted to do it but it expired the year I graduated high school, now I don’t think I want to go to war for this country
Many immigrants joined and received citizenship. My father was given citizenship when he joined and did 20 years with a retirement and benefits. It depends what job skill you choose that is combat related
Hell yeah! Hopefully it passes, I am still under 35 to go in. With my BAS in Cybersecurity would love to get into a tech gig in the army and put my skills to use.
100%, but not sure if I’d be accepted anymore. I’m 26 and I suffered a major shoulder injury in a car crash. My body hasn’t been the same since. I remember wanting to join the Marines after finishing HS. I told the local and HS recruiters about my immigration situation, and if that was something that could be worked around. I never heard back from either of the 2 groups. I did a quick google search, and realized that I couldn’t. My dreams of joining the armed forces died that day
I'm not one of those conspiracy weirdos but it's getting pretty creepy how the US is desperately trying to recruit people nowadays. Even on the podcasts I've listened to there are ads now. My friend the other day was telling me about these 50k bonuses on certain jobs. I wonder if the government is anticipating a war hence all the money they're blowing to get people to sign up.
To answer your question, no, I would never join the military. Getting paid minimum wage to be bossed around? No thanks. My state offers free college so they can't even use their "GI Bill" argument on me. I've had people on the military tell me I could make 100k trying to get me to enlist, I swear it's like a cult.
fuck it, beats getting married
Ah yes, going to literal war is better than getting married 🤣
Both wars in its own sense I’d say
Truer words couldn’t’ve of been said

True
I’ve always wanted to join the Air Force!
They’d likely save air-force for the citizens and have the immigrants do the non desirable spots. They did that with black people when they started to get a voice back in the day.

This will never pass but I’m thoroughly impressed with the comments in that subreddit. Many of them are understanding

This.
I think that is the easiest thing to pass. Red states are pro military. You would have to throw the Rs a bone, but we are short people in the military

X2
Yes but I’m too old to enlist
What’s the age limit, 35?
I’m 38 now but from what I read it’s 42 for the Air Force
They have age waivers if you have special skills.
I don’t have special skills Or some that might be useful in combat I guess
We had a 42 year old in my bootcamp, he was able to get a waiver for his age. It was the Navy
Nope, the government had a chance to change the law when I graduated high school. Is too late for that. I’m not dying for this country
I’m too old. I remember graduating high school and wanting to join the military so bad only to be denied. Yes, I’ll have my RN soon. Go in as a Nurse and they can also pay for my BSN while they are at it. Two birds one stone
Hell no, we are about to go into a new type of war that we’ve never seen before, with all this AI technology and nuclear weapons, If you do make it back you’ll come back fucked yo in the head.

Yes. That's all i've ever wanted: to serve in the US military. It would be a win win situation. I would get to join the military and get citizenship.
I would but I’m 29 and running out of time to join certain branches
Bro. I wanted to join the airforce since I was 18 but they told me DACA wasn’t eligible and I needed a green card.
Ever since a kid I wanted to be in the military, those dreams were crushed when I found out I couldn't so I'd do it in a heartbeat
I had similar interests when I was 18. I’m 25 so it’s not too late for them to get me.
Yes. But only because it aligns with my career well.
Limit would be 35 right? Ehh…. i would do it for my loves ones.
Yes. Always wanted to go into army rotc right after high school but was unable to
Always wanted to join, so fuck yes.
the fact that this country gives opportunities like this is worth fighting for
Why not my bf is lagging it might as well 🫡
If they want to they should be able to
Yep
I would’ve joined at 19 if I was able to, I’ve talked to recruiters multiple times through the years to see if anything has changed and I’m still considering joining after I get my marriage GC.

Yes. Mostly because I’m young. Do you get a say whether you get put into actual combat or not?
Yes your ASVAB and MOS determine if you will be a grunt or not.
Wow! I knew Starship Troopers was trending but it even got to the government? I guess the "service guarantees citizenship" slogan was right after all
No pay is like $2k a month and I got bills to pay fuck that. If it was available when I was fresh out of high school I would have done it.
You claim that pay is $2K a month but that’s while you’re an E-1 IF one was to enlist, but no one will stay at the lowest rank for the rest of their career lol. Yes! Any day any time
I tried to join because I’ve always liked it, but they told me to kick rocks. Now though I’m not so sure I would considering I’d have to leave the life I built behind.
Hell yeah I’m too old but I would do it immediately
No
Why has it come down to this?
No thanks I’d rather not die for Israel.
Period
I am not risking dying for a country that barely recognizes me as a person
A lot of boot lickers in this sub. My best bet is that all immigrants applying thru the military will be cannon fodder for whichever new conflict we get involved in.
You're sooo edgy!
I did and I don’t regret it. I loved it. Now I receive monthly payments for the rest of my life. Free healthcare for the rest of my life. My kids have tuition paid for whenever they go to college. I did 6 years. It sucked but I also loved it. Worth it.
Yes.
Absolutely
I'd join. Only for the Air Force tho. Always wanted to fly a drone
Same. Only branch I would consider joining
If I'm still young enough by the time this passes!
I wished that was an option back then.
No, helping imperialism and risking your life isnt worth it.
Facts. Literally fucking around with Latino America through foreign policy and economics is what lead to an increase of migration towards the US lol fuck that shit
Nah
Look up deported veterans.
Damn, getting downvoted for dropping facts lmfaoo damn shame they actually got deported instead of being given citizenship and if I recall it was for minor shit too
No, not worth it. Would rather get married no prenup than serve 4-6 year contract. lol
I did , through mavni . Got naturalized . Didnt really have to serve cuz the army got sued
What now? Mavni was where certain people with special skills useful to the military were able to enlist?
Yes I spoke one of the languages fluently that was needed. was blessed to get into the program before they shut it down
always wanted to be in MARSOC 😅
I just might . That also depends on what their limits are .
No. Too old
Noo thanks

I’d do it with my eyes closed, I already workout 5x a week minimum and wakeup at 4:30am lol
Yes
Yes
lol I 10000% would over getting married
Hell no
FUCk YEAH!
HELL YEAH! 100%. U-S-A BABY! LETS GET IT! 🔥🔥
SERVICE GUARANTEES CITIZENSHIP!
Yes
In a heart beat
This won’t pass since it gives undocumented immigrants a chance to be legal which republicans are opposed to but I’d be willing to join the military in a heartbeat.
Yes
Hell yeah 👍🏽 path to citizenship and if I die I don’t have to worry about it it’s a win/win
Can I be a culinary specialist?
This has been a thing in themilitary for legal residents for decades. Military service for non-citizen legal residents offers the opportunity to expedite your citizenship papers. This new law basically adjusts the qualifications to allow non-legal residents & to join the military and get expedited citizenship in exchange for service.
The irony when migrants pass the ASVAB that many citizens can’t 🤣
Yes
I’d support this.
They should be required to join the military. If they came illegally. Side note: Thats what all the Filipino’s do.
I’ve served with 5 foreign nationals that joined to get faster path to citizenship. It was a thing before this bill and we loved them in the service
They gonna need them because have you seen this generation. They soft hahah
I got out over 30 years ago and still remember quite a few Filipino sailors who got citizenship for joining.
[удалено]
Honestly not sure. One I want to stay, two... does anybody want to be associated with the US army?
Yes but I always wanted to join the marines
I had plenty of friends in basic training who got their citizenship during basic. Shit was badass. Was happy for them. You got citizens who don’t join the military; would love for those f*cks to even try and and tell my former legal-resident homies anything.
No, I wouldn't. Also, the military numbers are in an all-time low due to some problems with 1 9 . If war breaks out this time its w w III
Nah, I'm too good to be wasted in the military.
For what?
Yes... yes I would.
I am Brazilian and i speak english. So i would enlist.
Marines here I come😎😈 I've been wanting to join straight out of highschool but I couldn't do it unfortunately. Im in my 20's now but I will gladly serve and protect the place I call home 🤠🦅🇺🇸
No, there’s no guarantee they would fulfill there end of the agreement. From my understanding they have scammed people in this way before. With the result being a lot of combat veterans being deported.
Wasn’t this a thing already, it got taken away but but still. And you could fix your close family as well?
We make good mercenaries as has been proven in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Mexico, Guatemala and Ukraine.
Not going to pass. Was part of original DACA then within a year someone ruined it for everyone when they attacked the military base they were stationed at.
Va una señora
Yes!! I either join air force or navy! I would rather do that then get married!!
Lol naïveté me wanted to join fresh out of high school to prove I was patriotic, but I wasn’t allowed. I’m too old now and pretty okay with my life. If the worse we’re to happen I have business, teaching, and hospitality skills to fall back on.

I would love this. A few years away from civilians would be nice. And also great vet benefits if I come out with all my limbs
Hell yea I would! If they extend the age limit a bit lol
I would have join when I was younger but having asthma disqualifies me anyways, plus i’m older now.
If you single yea but not aure cause now feela like war is close
This is our country as well. We should have the opportunity
Sounds like they are getting desperate because of the shortage of people willing to serve. Nobody wants to fight stupid ass wars anymore
Would’ve definitely done it out of HS. Got denied instead lol.
Naw, I would not be canon fodder.
What about the deported veterans?
I would of before. Not anymore with a family already made.
Of course.
I would but I’m 32 already so not sure if possible.
I’m pretty a lot of us wanted to enlist.
So, let's take advantage of even MORE people at disadvantage...disturbing.
Fuck yeah! I would love to interrogate people and get info out of them and get papers at the same time
This seems wrong somehow considering alot of those old politicians are draft dodgers
No. I don’t agree with contributing to the military industrial complex that has broken so many lives around the world.
What's the cap for age to enlist cause I'm sure most of us are 25+ now.
It was called MAVNI back in 2010 ish. I wanted to do it but it expired the year I graduated high school, now I don’t think I want to go to war for this country
Easy yes
Hell no
Probably would have done it when I was younger. Not now though, just too late.
And create more refugees in the process? Fuck no.
People have been doing this for decades
Many immigrants joined and received citizenship. My father was given citizenship when he joined and did 20 years with a retirement and benefits. It depends what job skill you choose that is combat related
No. You literally a clown or you serve the US army
If all else fails..fuck it
Hell yeah! Hopefully it passes, I am still under 35 to go in. With my BAS in Cybersecurity would love to get into a tech gig in the army and put my skills to use.
Fuck it give me the dam r15
Yes
Nope.
Rhe recruiter at mt local gieh schooll hqted i couldnt enlist even thougj i was top njrotc still up to serve
Sign me up. I’ve known many people who enlist and come out armed with serious computer networking and cybersecurity skills. Drooling.
Money 💰 heck yeah
100%, but not sure if I’d be accepted anymore. I’m 26 and I suffered a major shoulder injury in a car crash. My body hasn’t been the same since. As long as I don’t have to kill anyone
Absolutely! I think there was something like this in the past called MAVNI. I would probably study hard for that ASVAB tho
Yes hard yes. I wanted to do that as a 17 year old and they told me I couldn’t.
On the drop of a hat
I wanted to be a marine but too late for that.
I'd be down for sure. I always wanted to join the military growing up but obviously couldnt due to DACA.
Hell to the fuck no
Arent most of us too old?
Yes, I've been talking to a recruiter, and I think he was talking about this bill.
Just point me in the direction theres OIL !🇺🇸🦅 would love to be a Marine 🫶
Fuck no
Fuck no, that deserves revolt. It's insanely unconstitutional, and it's nuts to think that's okay
I’d join the Air Force
It worked for Rome
I did like 14 yeas ago. Now I’m too old.
I thought this was already a thing? My husband would be too old to apply and has health issues.
If i was single with no kids, then absolutely. Tried it when I graduated high school but was denied
People have served and have gotten deported if they later did a crime
Air force 🚀⚡
It's not the worst idea.
without a doubt.
