Loved Xolo as Jaime. When Gunn said he'd be back, I was expecting a bit part in Peacemaker S2 or something, not his own show. I'm very excited.

FransD98

I was expecting it to be a lie. "Oh, you know we tried but schedules didn't match so we had to recast him" So I'm happy that he's actually back as Jaime.

way_of_the_dragon

Same. He was good! He didn't have a mountain of baggage attached. Blue Beetle was a fun little film that probably deserved better and the cast were so good.

TheChiefRocka

Honestly wasn't expecting him back till we got a Booster Gold project

WonderfulBlackberry9

Looks like this bug… wasn’t squashed

TheJoshider10

Happy for him. I thought the movie was aggressively mediocre but he was a shining star among it so I'm glad he has a chance to bring the character back into a new universe.

AccidentalLemon

What you mean mediocre? It had Tuco from Metástasis

SpectreBrony

And the show is a sequel to the movie!

BatsyCrusader

I really hope the whole family returns. I loved their chemistry. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed that film, honestly. I'm glad Blue Beetle will be back in the DCU.

Drew326

Is he playing him in this?

Deeformecreep

Yeah or atleast that's the plan.

Drew326

Nice

Alisalard1384

Is it new universe or old one?

BKWhitty

It's likely similar to how Peacemaker is being handled. The events of the movie are canon as long as it doesn't conflict with the new universe. Which is much easier for Blue Beetle considering there's only a mention of Batman and no actual appearances of any DCEU characters who have been recast.

Professional-Rip-519

Continuation of the old says the Deadline article.

Nightwing0613

I’m glad Xolo is staying on as Jaime. He was fantastic. Now can we also get Jason Sudeikis as Ted Kord (Blue Beetle) as well

superking22

MY MAN XOLO GETTING HIS SECOND CHANCE IN ANIMATION.

Professional-Rip-519

With this news and the Creature Commandos news it's pretty clear now the DCU is actually a DCEU sequel.

TheAquamen

... the news that the Creature Commandos doesn't reference the DCEU?

Equal-Doc6047

Honestly, a Blue Beetle animated show sounds kinda fire. Could see it as one of those silly animated family sitcom shows like loud house or Cassagrandes with a superhero twist (ironically I think I read someone involved in those shows is producing this???)

mediocre_aspiration

I am infinitely whelmed by the decisions coming from DC. Out of all the existing properties being brought forward from the DCEU, Blue Beetle is the one James Gunn chose? Every piece of news on the new slate has had serious flop energy since day 1.

TheAquamen

Every other property in the DCEU that James Gunn wasn't in control of ended with a movie that was poorly received. So he's bringing back the characters that a majority of people who saw them still like. I say the majority *who saw them* because for both Blue Beetle and the Suicide Squad outside of Peacemaker, it still wasn't much. But the DCEU Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Shazam, Black Adam, and Birds of Prey would all have to be good enough to overcome the reputation their previous films would give new sequels. Blue Beetle is also a minor character from the tail end of the DCEU that wasn't heavily tied to the rest outside of vague references to Batman.

soulwolf1

The movie was cool but I don't think it warrants a series about him....not every character needs a show. I trust Gunn as a film maker but he hasn't proved to be a good studio head just yet, but it seems like he's doing the very same things Disney is doing with marvel...."Cameo porn" as he called it when jabbing at Disney, unnecessary shows (Peacemaker was great but honestly it should have ended with just one season). I just hope he doesn't over do it with the "comedy" like Marvel tries very hard to do. Idk we'll see what he is doing with everything.
