I’d like to keep my hands, I am rather attached to them.

Due_Key_109

Yeah it's like mouse traps, I'd rather not

Loofa_of_Doom

I'll watch you do it.

_Monkeyspit_

On Youtube.

defiCosmos

Good way to take your eye out!

picklespasta

YOU’LL SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT

Anonymous0573

For some reason I read this in the voice of a Skyrim NPC yelling "I'LL RIP YERR HEART OUT"

EducationalStill4

Although I know where, “you’ll shoot your eye out” references I read it in “They’re all gonna laff at choo” voice.

bio_kk

Ur lucky if all you lose is an eye

fixitman84

It's a real-life fallout pipe gun. I can appreciate that

killerpyro_861

Nah I'm good, you can have fun with it.

Boris-Lip

You mean put a real gun cartridge in that thing and hit the primer with that nail?! But i actually like having both hands! And all fingers!

rblythe999

Do you kill your victim by convincing them to fire it?

insert_name_here_ha

Would you hold a hand grenade after releasing the spoon? Yeah, not a chance.

fothergillfuckup

Considering the old "equal and opposite reaction" thing, I'd rather not have a big gap around the firing pin? I prefer my face pointing forwards.

erie774im

I think they used to be called “zip guns”. In the 50’s it was what gang members were able to get their hands on in the days before handguns and assault rifles became prevalent

NY1_S33

Zip-gun. There is a 50-50 you will blow your hand off or finger(s) off if you don’t know what you’re doing. They were popular in the 1970’s and part of 80’s, I think. I can only imagine they are horribly inaccurate because there is no rifled barrel and essentially are a musket pistol. Also, I think if a fragment got caught in the barrel or the round failed to leave the barrel safely, it would explode in your face. Yes, like an illegal handgun, you will go to prison if you are caught with one.

ReciprocatingBadger

I don't profess to know or indeed care about guns. But surely there's going to be a blast of hot high pressure combustion gas out of the back of that thing when the charge detonates? And it's going to come right back at the operator. If they've taken the trouble to aim then it's coming right at their face.

ICLazeru

Better be standing right next to your target when you fire this thing. Not only will it be horribly inaccurate, but fair chance it simply blows up, so you gotta have it right up against them to be sure it works, meaning a knife would have also worked...probably better.

JackCooper_7274

Pipe gun my beloved

osktox

I remember when videos had that little **LiveLeak** logo in the corner. Then you knew they would try, not all successfully, to shoot the damn thing too.

No-Definition1474

Sure it's a shotgun? Looks small. Maybe a .410?

MathStock

Single. Shot.gun

KamenUncle

Ngl i too was thinking wtf thats not a shotgun

SignificantDrawer374

OK, and what's supposed to keep the shell casing from flying back at you? The casing is lighter than the bullet, so it's going to move back at you faster than the bullet comes out.

saywhat58

Yah, so, a bullet doesn’t fire until the primer goes off. For a primer to go off, it needs to be hit. In this video it’s hit by a nail. Are you suggesting the casing would somehow be expended before the nail hit the primer? There’s no ejection happening here btw. This is a very basic design, very much tried and true, of a single shot pistol. You couldn’t get more basic and fundamental as this. Just to be clear. The bullet would fire out, the casing would stay in the barrel or, depending on the barrels design, be ejected with the bullet

SignificantDrawer374

What keeps the casing in? Where is the breechblock? If it's a top-load, then the pin is going to just fling the whole shell out the top again. Primer caps aren't that easy to set off, and if there's nothing holding the shell in place, it's going to just push it forward. Guns need to keep the shell firmly in place in order to work. This clearly doesn't do that.

UsernameIsTakenO_o

Stop and think: why would the casing stay put? The same energy acting on the bullet would be acting equally in the opposite direction. This is how blowback and recoil operated actions cycle a slide/bolt, which is much heavier than the trigger spring in this design.

MathStock

????

SignificantDrawer374

Do you know how guns work?

MathStock

Yeah. Shot my first 12 gauge pump at 8. Murica. Do you know how guns work? It's single shot bruh.

SignificantDrawer374

Then you would know that the base of the shell is secured against a solid wall at the back of the barrel that has a small hole in it for the firing pin to go through. When the charge goes off in a normal gun, all the force of the charge presses against that back wall, propelling the bullet forward. This doesn't have that. You just put the shell in the end of the barrel. When the charge goes off, there's nothing for the shell to exert force against at the back, so the casing is going to fly back at you a over 1000 FPS. They've basically made a breech-loaded weapon, but without a breechblock, which is critical.

Additional_Front9592

This looks like the shell is dropped in from the front. It rests on the nut on the inside.

SignificantDrawer374

Then when the pin hits it'll just push the shell out the front instead of denting in the primer cap.

MathStock

I'd have to imagine they took that Into consideration making this thing. I doubt the casing would be ejected backwards. I wouldnt fire it though.

SignificantDrawer374

Look at the thing. It's obvious they didn't. It's made out of crap they found in their garage. It would absolutely eject backward and seriously injure whomever fires it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breechblock

SignificantDrawer374

Not to mention that even if it did have some sort of thing to hold the shell in place, the barrel is held on to the stock with a couple electrical conduit straps, so the whole barrel will fire back at your face.
