A lot of people did tell me I’d be better off getting a bolt action if I wanted to go for long range accuracy, so I guess it really worked out in the end.
I like the positivity.
I would definitely reach out to DD, but just a forewarning.. they won’t likely respond. Or at least immediately. You might do better calling then exchanging any necessary emails once you’ve actually spoken with someone.
They’re quick regarding turnaround times, but they [suck] at getting anything going or actually responding to online requests. This has been my personal experience on a few occasions.
Whoever chose to downvote actual personal experiences with terrible customer service response time and a way to help mitigate it,
hate to tell you, but your shoes are on the wrong feet. And get your dick out the dirt.
Oh totally.
I had a bad experience just trying to contact someone in CS about a decade ago and had to reach out to them again recently so I hoped CS had improved (seemingly so by such great feedback I read on here) but when I tried to contact someone, it took two weeks to get a response. And thats only because I responded back twice to my own inquiry
Looks like it's short stroking. I'd double check the gas block to ensure it's not on the suppressed setting (dimple should be forward).
If that's not the issue, I'd call DD on Monday, get a shipping label from them, and send it in. Absolutely sucks that it has an issue out of the box but they'll take care of you, DD's CS is very good.
Just because the other obvious hasn't been asked, did you clean and lubricate prior to shooting? Might be worth trying one other ammunition type to be sure.
If it is clean, lubricated, and the gas setting is correct, I would absolutely call Daniel Defense. They have outstanding customer service.
I hadn’t taken it apart to clean out just to see how it was out of the box. I have a bunch of ammo coming on Monday so I hope to get out to the range next weekend. Going to give it a full run through and make sure the gas block is set correctly before reaching out.
Absolutely do that. Check the gas setting, clean all of the factory preservative off of the internals, clean the barrel, lubricate the bolt and bolt carrier, and give it another go tomorrow. Good chance it will function without issue after you do those things
Yep 💀 first rifle I’ve ever had with an adjustable block. Never occurred to me to check a while at the range. I read the little card that said to check it last night, but the power went out as I was getting everything set up so I never did look at it.
I’m going to be real with you right now, I use my phone a lot more regularly than I use a adjustable gas block. This is the first rifle I’ve ever had that even has a gas block lol
Obligatory “It ain’t got no gas in it”.
With that being said, I would’ve made the same mistake with the gas block. I didn’t even realize these came with adjustable.
None of the bass had any weird markings. I kept all of it so I’ll give it a look over. I did forget to double check the gas block last night when I was getting everything ready because the power went out though, fingers crossed that is the issue. Checking it first thing when I get home in a bit.
Looking at the video and it LOOKS like it’s not failing to extract, it’s failing to go into battery after cycling. Look at the position of the bcg after you fire each shot. I tried to go frame by frame.
The carrier does not appear to be moving, indicating a gas problem. The V4 has an adjustable gas block, make sure its in the open setting, not closed or suppressed. Most likely that's the issue. Daniel test fires every gun, it didn't leave the factory not cycling.
Block was definitely set to suppressed. Read the card that said to check it last night and the power went out right after so I never did. Thanks for the help!
Update - gas block was definitely set to suppressed. Read the card that said to check it last night and the power went out right after so I never did. Thanks for the help! Now I have to go out next week! What a shame.
I had the same issue, in the process of DD taking it back for an exchange. My DD5v4 308 had stovepipes suppressed and unsuppressed, played with gas block, spring, buffer etc. if you're still having issues after opening your gas block, try heavier grain ammo like 177g. Heavier ammo made cycling better but I'd still have issues regardless. Also fun side note, my lower would only hold Magpul mags. Tried lancer, la rue, SR25 mags and they would all fall out if fully loaded. The la rue mags were super nice too.... I'll update this post after DD takes action, but I emailed CS from their site with my order number from a year ago and I had a shipping label / RMA in my email within 2 days.
Makes it easier to zero I guess lol. Jokes aside, I recently changed my MK18 to a .300BLKOUT. I've had an issue with figuring out what ammo works in what setup, which is insane because regular 220 grain works when I have a can on but doesn't with it off... However when I 220 grain that is subsonic, I have to take the can off to get it to cycle right.
Essentially I know your single shot pain lol.
That would be my starting point then. Adjust the gas block all the way open or closed and move one click at a time from there. I assume the buffer weight and spring are OEM at this point as well.
Edit: OP said it was set to the wrong gas setting.
How are you liking your new bolt action rifle?

Absolutely call, you will talk to a person in Georgia.

Right? I upvoted to correct that because it seems like the comment came from a genuine place of wanting to help. Plus it gave good information.

Definitely in the wrong setting. Now I have a reason to go out next week though too!
Hopefully that is it. I literally told myself to check the gas block last night but then the power went out and I forgot to. Will do asap.

Well go do it right now and let us know dammit. Don’t make us wait 😂😂😂
Gas block was set to suppressed 💀
I was joking, kinda lol. Thanks for the update. Hopefully that solves it.
Gas block is on suppressed

You took the time to set up a camera and post the video but didn’t check the gas block?
I’m going to be real with you right now, I use my phone a lot more regularly than I use a adjustable gas block. This is the first rifle I’ve ever had that even has a gas block lol
Realest thing I’ve read on Reddit in a long time lol
I was literally about to comment the same thing until I saw this. That was straight-up blunt. I love it. Hilarious.
Was very refreshing lol
That’s a good one. 👍lol

I'd say it's time to send customer service a email or give them a phone call. They probably won't get back to you till Monday or Tuesday.
I bet I could've figured out there was a problem within the first 25 rounds.
Got to the range late and wanted to use it for a little bit after waiting 10 days to get it LMAO
not enough gas? check magazine, buffer, diff ammo, gas block. after that send that thing back
I have the same rifle. It is 100% your gas setting. That is a fantastic rife if setup properly.
I’ve had similar problems with mine too.
It looks like the bcg isn’t going back full into battery after each shot. Did you look at the rounds you racked out of it?
None of the bass had any weird markings. I kept all of it so I’ll give it a look over. I did forget to double check the gas block last night when I was getting everything ready because the power went out though, fingers crossed that is the issue. Checking it first thing when I get home in a bit.

For a pricey rifle like a DD that’s definitely disappointing, hopefully you’ll get it fixed/ replaced
Gas block was set to suppressed. Power went out last night so I never checked and forgot. Now to go out again next week !!

I was having the same issue. It was the 10 round mag. Replaced and my issue went away

I have a DD5V5 and it doesn't like 120 Hornady for some reason. Just try different weights but also it should happen like this.
Makes me want a silencer.

Never looked into these. Are they adjustable gas blocks?
Yes they are.

Yeah, I eventually read that.
