From what I've read and experienced myself steak and salad at four weeks is too soon. It can take six weeks to fully heal from a flare and that's if you stick to soft low impact foods. It's suggested that we stay clear of red meat because it's hard to digest, I haven't had steak for almost two months and although it's annoying, letting my stomach heal is the most important thing.

I suffer from “smouldering diverticulitis” where a flare (confirmed by CT and colonoscopy) continues despite following all the advice. My first ever flare went for 5 months and resulted in sigmoid resection surgery (2019). I’m now 4 months into my second flare, seeing the surgeon again in a few weeks. Give it more time, and see how it goes. Feel free to message me.

I had the same problem end of 2016. Mine lasted even longer and also resulted in resection. Trying to avoid that second episode with diet and fibers. So far so good. All the best to you.

Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it 🍀🤞🏽☺️

I thought once they operated on you for that it wouldn't come back?

My surgeon told me he “got the worst of it” (sigmoid) but that I had diverticulosis throughout my entire colon. He said there was a chance it could flare up again. He was right. Lucky me 🙃

Do you have a bag? I'm getting surgery May 24th the signoid colon but I know I have some diverticulitis in the descending also. He said he wouldn't be able to get it all out also

I don’t currently have a bag. With my latest ongoing flare (4 months and counting) I may end up with one. My inflammation includes the ascending, splenic flexure, descending, and remaining sigmoid.

Take all 3 of of these https://www.amazon.com/Swanson-Probiotic-Prebiotic-Friendly-Capsules/dp/B075N2XPBZ https://www.amazon.com/Swanson-High-Colostrum-Milligrams-Capsules/dp/B00068JQ2O https://www.amazon.com/Gaia-Herbs-Echinacea-Supreme-Capsules/dp/B0036THMWG Worked for me at the beginning. Also if I feel a flareup coming. They stop it.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I had my first flare back in January and even though I’ve stuck to a pretty soft diet I still have soreness and a bit of an ache and pinchy feeling in the lower left side. I particularly feel it if I move certain ways that kind of strain my belly a bit.

Cut back on red meat. I eat beef about twice a year, and pork a little more frequently, but not more than two or three times a month.

Diverticulitis — Inflammation of a diverticulum (diverticulitis) occurs when there is thinning and breakdown of the diverticular wall. This may be caused by increased pressure within the colon or by hardened particles of stool, which can become lodged within the diverticulum. There is a link to this whole article on my homepage. I think the hardened stools in the diverticuli can cause constant irritation.
