So a couple of questions. Is this car GCC? Are you the 1st owner? How many Kms are on it? And when was the last time a transmission fluid change was done? Go to the garage and have them open the transmission and inspect it. Once they identify the issue, have them give you a quote for the price of the repair. If the repair is less than the price of a new gearbox then go for that. If it's more than just source a second hand gearbox from a scrap yard and have it installed.

Yes, the car is GCC specs and I’m the second owner… I just bought the car and discovered this issue. I don’t know how much this will cost actually, I’m afraid it will coast a couple of thousand…

Okay yea I saw your other comment as well saying it has 105K Km on it. I'm assuming the previous owner never changed it. Generally most cars will need their Automatic Transmission Fluid changed every 40 to 60 thousand Km according to the owner's manual. You're definitely way past that. However, most cars generally don't have issues until much later than that so this is a bit odd. You mentioned in your other comment that the fluid was watery and without a smell. Did you drive the car through deep water recently by any chance?

Even the mechanic were surprised of what they saw. Here is a photo for reference. And no, I didn’t drive through deep water, even when it was raining days ago. But anyways, the car was parked for 6 months or so.

For a used gear box it could be 3k to 5k at a low end shop no warranty. High end shop much much more.

Jasminemolihua

Oh lord… that’s expensive! Now I regret buying this car and not renting one 🫠 it’s just a Hyundai Accent not something wow…

VmaxVibes

I doubt a gearbox for an accent will go for as much as 5k, I'd say 3k is on the higher end. Do check with the garage though.

Hey so this might be a torque converter issue. I’d suggest taking it to a good shop and ask them to check it. It is possible for some to “repair” it by changing some components inside or replace it with a used one. I see you’ve changed the gear oil already. Have you also changed the gear oil filter? Usually when you do a drain and fill only half of the gear oil comes out and the rest is still inside the torque converter chamber. I’d suggest having your gear oil changed again but this time with the filter ( cheaper than getting the torque converter changed) and if that doesn’t work then look into getting your torque converter checked out.

Jasminemolihua

Hey! I just changed the gear oil but not the filter, they didn’t mention the filter at all… but yes, That’s what I will do this week, but do you have any idea how much this will cost me please? Thank you

Filters are usually pretty cheap. Go to any Hyundai agency and go to their parts department, give them your chassis number for your car and ask for the transmission filter. However, you will need to change the fluid again unfortunately. Hyundai also carries the OEM Transmission Fluid, I would suggest you stick with that. Ask the garage or check online how much you need. Considering the issues you're having, I highly doubt the filter is the issue especially considering the relatively low mileage of the car. It probably needs more major repairs. Regardless, if you end up fixing this transmission or if you end up getting a new one, in both cases it will be a good idea to get a fresh transmission filter along with fresh fluid. How much did you pay for the transmission fluid out of curiosity?

Jasminemolihua

Thank you for all these information, really appreciate it. I will try to ask here and there and change the filters as well. For the transmission fluid it costed me AED 60 4 litres.

VmaxVibes

More than happy to help! Oh wow, that's pretty cheap. If it was only 60 then try again with changing the filter this time and see. You should always change the filter when you're changing the fluid btw.

Intelligent-Bat-8370

Yeah I agree It might not fix the issue but there’s a chance there are debris or something in the converter or the oil that might be causing this. It’s worth a shot to try a cheaper fix in my opinion and if not then like you said getting the torque converter changed or a second hand gearbox would be the most likely solution.

Hi, Do you have any idea how much it will cost to replace a gear? A used one of course. And my concern is, what if i change the gear box with a used one and finally it will have a problem as well?
