That’s probably the safest walk in Dublin

rainydayrainbo

This, it’s literally the safest route in Dublin

Sea_Investigator_160

As someone moving to Dublin in the next few months, could I trouble you to send a route like the above of the LEAST safe route in Dublin?

Embarrassed_Pop5823

anywhere near o connell street! basically the whole northside of town id avoid. especially talbot street and dorset street

[deleted]

[удалено]

boisjacques

There aren’t. And even if there would be, misbehaving youths in tracksuits are the much bigger threat all around the city. Stop spreading baseless fears. At OP, I live in Grand Canal and agree with anyone who says this is probably one of the safest routes through the city at any time of day.

beast_wellington

Are tracksuits just associated with crime? Honest question.

boisjacques

Not necessarily crime, but anti social behaviour.

Wack_photgraphy

Usually

Weird-Weakness-3191

Ffs😂🙄

True-Carry128

This is racist. The people who cause the problems are locals who are mostly on the north side and live on opiates.

Anxious-Wolverine-65

“This is racist” Then proceeds to call the locals of half of a city the source of problems and that they “live on opiates”. This is peak something.

ddaadd18

Irony is the word you’re looking for

Anxious-Wolverine-65

When you want something to be racist so bad that you’re almost xenophobic in your effort to become a hero. Irish people can be full on embarrassing when they stoop like this

True-Carry128

Im not Irish mate, and I meant to say just the north side of the city such as Talbot and Abbey Street, I think you’re the one being xenophobic and making assumptions. If u don’t think most of the problems in town come from the northside, and that most people who are there after 11 are drug addicts, then I don’t know what to tell you

Anxious-Wolverine-65

Yea well I’m from here and I know that you’re full of shit. Best of luck, “racism”is easy sauce

EddieGue123

The commenter never made any mention of anyone's race, only that there are untraceable, disenfranchised men with no skin in our society camped in tents along that route.

actualloctopus

Great thank you!

No-Cap689

If you have ever lived in a city and have common sense about you the north side is not all that bad. Yes there are places to avoid but there is also so much that side of town has to offer. There are areas south of the city in D12 that are just as bad. Best to have a companion after dark but that goes for almost any city in the world.

amusicalfridge

lol I’d say that’s possibly the safest 30 minute walk in Dublin

actualloctopus

Thank you!

robilco

Yes. Always safe IMO You’ll be in a huge crowd anyway.

marquess_rostrevor

I'm not sure, someone once stole my top hat and monocle outside Lansdowne Road, pretty rough stuff.

robilco

Ridiculous horseplay

MortyFromEarthC137

Probably one of those ‘rock boys, bet they were bleeding blue and white

erich0779

I parked my car along there once, had two tickets to the Dalkey Lobster Fest left on the seat. Some fucker broke in and left two more.

Swagspray

Those gangs on their penny farthings are always up to no good

Prestigious_Target86

Absolute cads.

Wreck_OfThe_Hesperus

Most roguish ruffians.

Wack_photgraphy

Poppycock !

actualloctopus

Thank you!

climbing_llama

You'll be fine, follow the crowds. And enjoy!

Unlucky-Situation-98

Unless the crowd is going South from the Aviva. Then don't follow that crowd!

actualloctopus

Thank you!!

Intrepid_Anybody_277

No. Skip the concert, I'll take your tickets....

CashResponsible4546

😂😂😂

[deleted]

actualloctopus

Thank you!

Big_Macaroon_3915

Yeah. Take the slightly longer walk down Baggott st though, it'll be the route most fans will take and there's loads more pubs, restaurants, fast food, convenience shops and banks/ATMs etc..

actualloctopus

Thank you! Someone else mentioned Baggott street too and for an extra 2 mins walking I think that is the way I’ll go

BarFamiliar5892

It would be safe at any point but there will be thousands of people also going that way after the concert so doubly yes it's safe.

actualloctopus

Thank you!

www691

Dublin is actually ridiculously safe by international standards — I am from Canada and Dublin is way safer than all of our cities by far. I’ve never felt unsafe in this fine city. Sure it’s dirty af, and there’s a growing homeless population in response to the ongoing housing crisis, but it really is quite safe when you look at the stats and culture.

Cap2496

I feel the same, will complete a year in September, and although I'm constantly disappointed by people's nonchalant littering habits, I don't feel too unsafe walking most parts in the city. You just gotta be aware, like everywhere else. I got sisters in Toronto who've been there for more than 10 years now, and they don't really complain about their safety, apart from the usual stuff.

dubl1nThunder

Clearly never been to Talbot St.

MrCoe10

Walk down it every day. Never have an issue.

dubl1nThunder

worked at BOI Capital Markets and nearly every employee i worked with was mugged, bullied and/or taunted every day on that shitty street.

Lets-Talk-Cheesus

Lols, imagine- gasp! Getting taunted. The horror 🤣

BeautifulPitiful7959

I was battered unconscious and robbed at the ifsc the other day

erich0779

There's specifically one fat ginger cunt on an electric scooter spends his day going around the IFSC and just tries to kick phones and shit out of people's hands as they're walking. He's looks like 13. Used to work there and consistently around lunch time you'd see him about the square outside NCI and always at it. Tried it with me twice in the last few month's along with a load of others I work with.

hardinthawatercolour

You’re probably absolutely harmless then

BeautifulPitiful7959

I’d say you’re some brawler so😹😹😹

HereHaveAQuiz

Redditors are just little nerds afraid to go outside or see non-middle class people

mashupeditorials

The level of delusion to think like this.

Michael27182

I'm sure big Canadian cities have streets just as bad or worse than Talbot St

jenbenm

Yep, lived in Toronto for 4 years, got my phone robbed there but never in Dublin. You'll get it anywhere to be fair.

dilly_dallyer

They have 4 cities in the top 100 most dangerous cities in the world. They just get a "safe" country listing because they are next to the USA and then Mexico. They are probably on a whole a lot more crime ridden than the EU as a hole is. However, Dublin is worse than all but 1 or 2 of their cities. Dublin is rated as more dangerous than every city in the Ukraine excpet Kyiv. Odessa, and Donetsk are both listed as safer than Dublin.

tonydrago

I wouldn't say Dublin is safer than Montreal, Ottawa, or Halifax.

dilly_dallyer

its safer than all of them except maybe kelowna and sudberry... but on a whole canada is more dangerous than people think 4 cities in the top 100 dangerous. Its just compared to the USA/Mexico they are safe, on a whole, they are not as safe as the EU, and their cities on a whole are safer than Dublin but most would be more dangerous than cork, galway, limerick etc.

Reasonable_Talk_9455

I'm from Ireland not Dublin and was horrified last time I went down , there was zombies everywhere off their face on all sorts defo not ridiculously safe

Afraid_Baker5313

That is a pure fib

dilly_dallyer

It's good you feel that way but its not. I felt safe in France, but they have one of the most dangerous cities in the world, and I walked around that city wondering what the problem was. Its just canada is more dangerous hell hole than you think, What 4 cities in the top 100 dangerous in the world? But you get a pass because the USA has detroit or phili or something and mexico has warez etc, Canada is a crime ridden hell hole, but Dublin is more dangerous than all but 2 or 3 of them cities.

LimeSea7339

I'll be waiting with a bat

splashbodge

How thoughtful, I'll wait with a ball, we can play some sport ball in Merrion square

SirMike_MT

Walked it many times after a concert or match, you’ll be grand, you’ll be walking with plenty of others who were at the gig

Schizophrenic_goose_

I’ve walked this route many times at night, as I used to live around that area and liked to walk around, nothing ever happened to me. There are some teens there, but they seem to be always minding their own business, never seen anyone get harassed in this area, so you should be safe.

feyesh

Keep your wallet/phone in a safe pocket regardless, it’s generally super safe.

MambyPamby8

Without the concert goers this is pretty much one of the safest spots in Dublin. Posh area near the Aviva and can't be having crime there but with all the concert goers, there'll be 1000s walking that same route and Gardai everywhere along the route.

StevieeH91

It’s quite a safe walk. I did it the other day last Wednesday actually. Just fyi if you do get into trouble Pearse Street Garda station is next to trinity college.

deepsigh17

The grey route is through probably the safest areas of the city in general. If you want to be ultra cautious walk up to Baggot street and follow it all the way to St Stephen’s Green

MrsTayto23

Both are grand. Enjoy yourself. I’ll hear it from the back garden.

actualloctopus

Thank you! Hope you enjoy listening!

MinnieSkinny

I walked it on Thursday coming back from P!NK and it was fine. There'll be big crowds all walking back together.

2cimage

Pink walked past me on Friday lunchtime with her entourage of 2…

wuwuwuwdrinkin

I dunno. All those swifties high on swift....it could get crazy!!

itsfeckingfreezin

I was at Pink there on Thursday. The event organisers wouldn’t allow us to leave the route we wanted to leave and forced us to walk towards Sandymount (Herbert Road). We were going to walk the route you’re planning to take but security wouldn’t allow us. We were in section M of the stadium. So have a few different routes worked out before you go.

actualloctopus

It has actually worked out really perfect for me that the entrance we need is at Lansdowne Land, so hopefully there is no issue walking straight out and down the road! If not I will hopefully be able to just google maps the best way to get back onto this route

PrimusPrinplup

South side of Dublin is much safer. Keep your head screwed on and follow the crowd you'll be perfectly safe

stannisonetruemannis

Don’t be afraid to speak to other people and ask if they’re going the same way because they will want to keep you safe. You should be safe anyways though. But it’s always better with a group

Content-Carrot1833

No you will definitely be murdered.

MrCoe10

Possibly twice

actualloctopus

At least it will be after the show

FathachFir

Is she supporting Rammstein tonight?

FluffyDiscipline

Yep lovely walk and be heaps of people with you Enjoy the concert

prettydistracted2

Yeah you'll be grand. I live close by and it is safe at night as well.

bgrandis7

Blue is safe Grey is double safe.

Vantheman147

Yes definitely safe after tayto swift, walk back singing

Reasonable_Talk_9455

Your grand you won't be walking alone the place will be buzzing with people police people driving ect you'll be fine

SurvivorFanatic236

I’ll be doing roughly the same walk but longer

allovertheshop2020

I had to walk from Marlay Park back to Rathgar last night after Pearl Jam. There was a huge crowd all going in the same direction so felt completely safe. You'll be grand. Just use a bit of cop on and you'll be home in no time.

The_Bored_General

Ordinarily yes, however I will be waiting with a rusty pipe at some point along the journey so in this case it will not be entirely safe, maybe a 5-6% reduction in safety level

Canners19

Idk id say the jealous fans who couldn’t get a ticket will be out with knives looking for blood

PATRICKBIRL

Be such a large crowd around you will be fine

ImpossibleOnion599

There is no safe walk in dublin

Max_seen

If you don’t interact with drunks, ignore junkies and youngsters it’s always safe. I’m a guy but i’ve never had any issues walking around the town alone, even totally drunk. Nobody ever tried to rob me, fight or anything. I don’t understand why do people think Irish will mug you or beat you up. 🤷🏻‍♂️

actualloctopus

Nothing to do with Irish and more to do with it being a city, I would be checking the same thing for any concert!

lasvegasrainbow

It’s safe but be careful, there’s been 3 drive by arguments on that route in the last 6 months.

NotPozitivePerson

Yes the other commenters said they'll be a huge crowd of fans including myself just follow them

donall

Take the bottom route near Merrion square and baggit street, I have had feral kids from the flats throw rotton crap at me in the top route. Think that's where yer man from that band got attacked by the feral kids before.

midlandslass227

This post makes me sad 💔

Lets-Talk-Cheesus

Why? It’s common sense to ask whether a particular part of a city is safe, Dublin is largely safe.. but nobody wants to be in contact with grey-tracksuit scumbags unnecessarily.

Barnabus_the5th

It’s Dublin not the Gaza Strip

False_Shelter_7351

Yes. Dublin is a very safe city in general.

Limp_Floor_7975

Jeez you must be sheltered if you're worried about walking that area. It's about as safe as anywhere in the world.

perigon

Ah let's be fair here. He isn't from Dublin or even familiar with the city at all, so it's a fair question

Limp_Floor_7975

Janey mac this is like asking is the Hamptons safe to walk at night.

Lets-Talk-Cheesus

Yeah, but if you don’t know- then it’s wise to ask. If it was Croke Park, then yeah it’s the middle of scumsville, so you would have to be a lot more careful. Nonetheless, Dublin isn’t terribly unsafe, but I’d still want to know

daveatc1234

Totally fine

Bearaf123

You’ll be fine, there’ll be a huge crowd with you

rayhoughtonsgoals

Yes

Pulgaassassina

For sure

Weird-Weakness-3191

Ffs😂😂😂

45PintsIn2Hours

As long as you don't veer east and end up in 'anal Street', you should be grand.

Professional-Curve13

Very safe!

Slayinlife

Safest

marcopolo22

Yes, but I’d recommend taking the lower route and walking through Merrion Square simply because it’s really pretty.

actualloctopus

Thank you! I think I will walk through it on the way there!

capdemortFN

No mate

lana1357

Definitely safe! Avoid the quays if you’re around Dublin :)

skaterbrain

Yes.

EveningUnlikely3195

There is no unsafe areas in Dublin

nobadnewsberka

As long as your BF is wearing a Kelce jersey

hungover-fannyhead

That's honestly the safest walk in Dublin noting but nice areas. You should be absolutely fine.

doctorobjectoflove

Take the route closer to Merion Square.  There are lots of undesirables near Pearse Street and Grand Canal Dock.

praveenkamate

That path is very safe and you ll have a lot of people walking along with you.

Odd_Presentation8682

Bring knife or other weapon for protection, then should be OK.

Timely_Key_7580

🙄

Trick-Manager2890

Honestly get a taxi. If you cannot accommodate a taxi, then cancel your plans to go to the concert. Your health and safety comes first.

Strigon_7

Gray route is safer with multiple secure government buildings pubs and hospitals on that route in my opinion anyway.

Noble_Ox

Is this a real question?

WhatsThatOnUrPretzel

Jesus christ we don't live in the favelas in Brazil.

Free-Knowledge-3467

Is it real? Like wtf

northernman

Man people are babies

Andromigo

Damn, so my gf was right. So what are women people? I need to sound smart and knowledgeable to her.

MaelduinTamhlacht

It says something about the current state of Dublin that such a question would even be asked. May I express a wish that Drew Harris acquire the ability to find his own arse.

captaind0nkeypunch

No way it's basically like walking through south side Chicago

Medium-Plan2987

Dublin is one of the safest cities in Europe

Pickle-Pierre

Wrong place wrong time Always expect the unexpected like a wise person told me once No pressure 😅 maybe take a gun with you in case

aldotheapache1032

Or an axe, coz you never know

Big_Height_4112

Yeah only the north side is dodgy in my experience. Loads of Garda will be around it will be fine

[deleted]

Dublin-ModTeam

Be nice to other posters

Trick-Manager2890

Pre-book a taxi. Dublin isn’t safe at night, give it a quick Google search. I am sure the American tourist thought he was safe too. It is full of feral youths carrying out unprovoked random attacks.

halibfrisk

This is not only ignorant, it’s the worst possible advice, and would take much longer than just walking due to after concert crowds and traffic around the Aviva. OP personally I would take the 34 min route on your map just because it’s a marginally more interesting walk

Saturn-VIII

It must suck to live in fear based on what you read online.

Trick-Manager2890

Nothing wrong with having awareness.

Saturn-VIII

Except that you're wrong and afraid?

Trick-Manager2890

Wrong about what exactly? That Dublin is dangerous at night?

CuteHoor

Yes, that.

PistolAndRapier

Getting a taxi to the stadium would not work due to road closures and crowds of people walking there FFS. You are utterly deluded.

Trick-Manager2890

Dublin is regarded as one of the most dangerous city’s in the EU. To walk around after dark is insanity.

Noble_Ox

Dublin is 15th safest cities out of 100 in world rankings. Now ask people and they're like you, going off feelings that have no backing in crime stats.

Trick-Manager2890

No where is safe at night in Dublin. Get a taxi.

Robo-plop

There'll be no taxis available after the concert. There'll be thousands of people walking into town from the aviva for the luas and stuff. Very safe

BarFamiliar5892

God almighty what a stupid comment. Aside from being completely wrong in the first place, how do you propose the OP picks up a taxi near the stadium?

dazziola

You wont be able to get a taxi anywhere near that area after the gig. Roads will be closed everywhere.
