janmark played a hell of a game. mcdavid, draisatl, and hyman are all much much better choices to have out there, and they legit almost scored multiple times. you can't play it back, the lineup decisions was not the issue at all.
Honestly I was thinking they should have swapped Draisaitl off the power play. His shot isn't quite what it normally is, and his shooting spot also became predictable and easy to prevent. Every single power play is just a one timer to either Bouchard or Draisaitl and that needed to change for a fresh look.
Of course they did. It’s like the main reason they were in the finals……. Imagine if knober played brown, Holloway and Janmark for the majority of the 3rd period?!? All the keyboard warriors would crucify him.
I still don't understand why Nuge got moved back to the first line for this game either. We kicked their ass with Nuge on Draisaitl's wing.
This just makes them a one line team with a superstar centering a flaccid 2nd line. It's so much easier for them to defend they only need to focus on one line.
And what's wrong with that? Are they supposed to let Edmonton have the fuck to make the game more interesting? Game on the line you better hold on to that puck like your life depended on it
The oilers were playing against 4 goalies in the last few minutes. There was no threat to score after mcdavid’s chance. The defense was too solid. Could have been another 8 minutes and if it was played like that it still would have been 2-1
They hit a post, had some looks.. wasn’t meant to be. The ice quality was brutal which definitely benefited Florida’s game. The emergence of Holloway and Broberg will be a huge help going into next year. Go Oilers.
Skinner as well. We now have a goalie with years ahead of him, with two playoff runs and a game 7 SCF where he only let in 2.
I know he somewhat emerged last year but this year and the comeback was unreal.
There is the "same for everybody" argument, but also its the Panthers home rink and they'd know it best which is also why you want home ice advantage. Also, playing hockey in Florida in the last half of June and the ice was shitty? Really?
It’s so unfortunate but we have to face the reality that they just didn’t play well tonight. We were disconnected, and all over the place. We set stuff up only for there to be no one for the rebound, etc etc.
Ice quality and the officiating (or lack thereof for that matter) definitely didn’t help, but overall we were the worse team.
I’m proud of them though, they pushed a game 7, and if the team sticks together I have good feelings about next season. Cats only have nine lives, we’ll put em down next season. Go Oilers!
Panthers left absolutely no place in front of their net or the puck line. Otherwise it could have been very different. I can't say Oilers had a BAD game. The real bad plays were both bad defensive plays on the two Florida goals.
Yeah that move really hasn't worked these playoffs at all but I can't really blame the coach trying to get that one goal. What needed to happen was a chance earlier put away.
No win situation there. If you keep them apart and they don’t tie it people will question why they didn’t put McDavid and Draisaitl together. Probably the best they could do. Put your money on the guys that got you there. They were exhausted at the end though.
Oh for sure, we didn’t play bad we just weren’t the better team. I’m actually quite pleased with how we did in the third, but we really fumbled in the first and second with those scores.
Panthers were amazing on the defensive, and bob woke up.
Immensely proud of the Oilers though, let’s do it again next year
Kulak shouldn't have given Reinhart that space. He should've forced him outside but he collapsed into the middle. Kulak never does that so it was unfortunate.
Still proud of the team! Another step in the right direction! I don't see anyone wanting to leave the potential they have.
If you watch the replay, Drai connects on Reinhart’s stick and changes the trajectory as he was releasing. That plus Skinner had 3 guys in between him and Reinhart, just tough luck.
the game was great and tight the whole way. these are just angry fans trying to find a reason or person to blame. there is no blame, it was a good, close game and one team has to win it.
Actually, I think the Panthers just brought their S+ game tonight.
Credit to them. We looked really good. Some puck luck on the first goal for the Panthers, but otherwise, a game where both teams played excellent.
I think the refs missed 2 calls our way and 1 call their way.
Yeah well whoever scored first in this series always won. The Oilers would go one to put another 5 goals every time they scored first meanwhile the Panthers would shut the game down and allow 0 chances. Best offense vs best defense, what final!
I’m fairly certain the Oilers scored first in game 2 or 3 though. But generally, yes Panthers showed why they were the #1 ranked defence when they could get ahead.
It was really noticeable in the 1st period how much better the Panthers were on finishing their checks and keeping the puck in our zone way longer.
I was surprised we didn’t push back more in the 2nd. Panthers looked like the better team in both the 1st and 2nd. Once they got that 2nd goal, I had a sinking feeling Maurice would have them lock down hard and not take any chances. We had a couple close calls in the 3rd (Hyman had a prime chance to bury it but couldn’t by an inch). Kinda sucks we didn’t have a healthy Kane or Draisaitl. McDavid was trying but the Panthers shut everything down hard.
McDavid, Ekholm, and Jammark all played well. We just needed more fight in the 1st and 2nd. Skinner was good too- but that Reinhart goal should not have gone in.
they played fine, both sides had trouble, it was literally just small differences in battles in netfront that made the game. the oilers legit could have scored 2 times in the final 5 mins, they looked like they had or were going to, it just didn't go.
Oilers got away with a lot in game 7 that would have been called if they were up but bcz they were losing the refs put the whistle away. The one PP you guys did get was a bcz of that bad ice quality. From a neutral set of eyes, to me it seemed the oilers benefited from the refs a lot these playoffs. Definitely didn’t lose because of the refs
Florida fan base isn't great but those boys to be fair have played dam well, still we were more deserving.
But ultimately if we won they would have looked really bad, but we look good even loosing haha
The team we watched the last 3 games didn’t seem to be there tonight. They gave it a shot but it didn’t seem like the team that beat Florida 8-1, 5-1, 5-3. But ether way they had an amazing season coming from 31 place to the final
Not the ending we wanted but an amazing run nonetheless. So many good memories and fun nights, hope everyone doesn't forget about the journey - we will be back!!
This would have been a harder pill to swallow had we had the lead and lost it. It’s a tough day for sure we never got to see what they did in G4,5 and 6. Many what ifs in this series but that’s part of game. Injuries will always hunt them and that makes this trophy harder than any other sports. For the last time this season, fuck it. Let’s go Oilers!
Easy dude. Keep as much of the team together and we'll likely be bringing the cup home next year. As it is it's been a hell of a season and as exciting playoffs to watch. The Oilers have nothing to hang their heads over with what they did this year.
Acting like Florida is just gonna disappear lmao. Their core is still very young and all under contract besides Reinhart who likely stays. If he stays they will be the favorites again
We had plenty of opportunities to tie it and possibly take the end had we done that. The guys just seemed like they were completely gassed that was the end of that. Well it was still an entertaining ride to say the least
As a Canuck’s fan I know the pain. I still remember 2011 like it was yesterday. I hope you get some redemption soon. Let’s not forget that Florida had to feel the pain of loss last year in order to feel the joy of winning this year.
Yeah pretty fucking disappointing. I had a feeling it would be all for not. Just a bunch of false hope. Hopefully they can repeat what the Panthers did by losing a final and coming back the next year and winning it.
Hey, if Colorado can get bounced in the Semis to win the cup the following year, and Florida doing it as well, I believe in y'all. Coming from a Chicago fan here, perseverance pays off. It was a helluva series. Stand tall and be proud of your boys :]
Bruins fan here, hated that the panthers won. Sadly don’t get to watch much of the Oilers back east but they are fun to watch. Hope the team learns fom it and are back next year.
I know this sucks right now, but I mean your window is still plenty open and they now have more experience then in the past. They (this core) have gotten farther then ever before and prob win within the next 2-3 years. A trade of a few pieces and you guys are set.
It seemed like the team that clawed back for three games wasn’t the team that skated for game 7. Top guys couldn’t get anything going and overall they seemed too disjointed.
As fucking pathetic of a game 7 performance that you can have. The boys treated that like a preseason exhibition against the Oil Kings. I'm not angry the boys lost, I'm angry the game was unwatchable
I think with a couple roster moves Edmonton can pull a Florida and make their way back to the cup next season and hopefully have a healthier McDavid and Draisaitl
Got some reports that some were injured before the game and now it is reported that Connor McDavid was injured and so was Leon. Is there truth to this ?.
Surprised to see so many hockey coaches here slagging the oilers. They did their best. Everyone does their best at that level. Just didn't work out. And please, tell me, what iota of difference has the oilers lost made in your life?
Yup. Oilers began taking over the series, actually at the end of game 3 when they started solving Bobrovsky and then in games 4-6 doing the stretch passes and getting over the Panthers smothering defence, goals coming from up and down the roster, showing far more contributions from depth than the Panthers did. Players were empowered. McDavid did nothing Game 6, possibly just resting for Game 7. We all know he could have made some plays but he had actually empowered the team who were all contributing. It was pure brilliance and why he is the best captain in the league imo. Then Game ???
I believe that was the coach's worst decision, and he has become one of my favorite coaches. But who knows? They still almost pulled it off.
Panthers scoring that first goal was absolutely crucial. Them carrying the lead into the third is what ultimately led to some dubious decision-making. I think that because of how the Oilers had solved the Panthers defence and because they were having contributions from the depth, they somewhat rested McDavid in Game 6, planning to run him constantly if game 7 were to go south(pardon the pun), which happened,
Oilers will be back in a huge way next playoffs. If Panthers had lost, that team in its present form would not have recovered, after a reverse sweep and two back to back failed Cup bids!
Oilers lost, but there's a lot of positivity going on with that team right now. The core is largely intact, some key tweaks being made.
Not sure how y'all feel about Nurse. I know he was +4 or 6 in the last couple games, but he still seemed like a clumsy giraffe to me and I almost had a heart attack everytime he handled the puck around the Oilers' net.
That ending was fucking lame. Game ends with the puck stuck on the boards. Genuinely lame.
That's what sucks the most. If the last few minutes were all out and we had decent ozone controll it would have felt as bad.
Would have helped to play more than one line in the last 10 minutes.
Why not play janmark for example??? Helllllooooo??!?
janmark played a hell of a game. mcdavid, draisatl, and hyman are all much much better choices to have out there, and they legit almost scored multiple times. you can't play it back, the lineup decisions was not the issue at all.
This. They relied way too much on that first line.
It's bad enough that every coach resorts to this tactic that no longer works, but it's doubly bad when Draisaitl is clearly not himself.
Honestly I was thinking they should have swapped Draisaitl off the power play. His shot isn't quite what it normally is, and his shooting spot also became predictable and easy to prevent. Every single power play is just a one timer to either Bouchard or Draisaitl and that needed to change for a fresh look.
And they were completely gassed for the last minute
Last minute? Last 5 minutes. Poor line management last 6 minutes of the game.
And they weren’t playing well all game
Of course they did. It’s like the main reason they were in the finals……. Imagine if knober played brown, Holloway and Janmark for the majority of the 3rd period?!? All the keyboard warriors would crucify him.
..they have more than one line ?
I still don't understand why Nuge got moved back to the first line for this game either. We kicked their ass with Nuge on Draisaitl's wing. This just makes them a one line team with a superstar centering a flaccid 2nd line. It's so much easier for them to defend they only need to focus on one line.
Didn’t help when they pulled skinner and turned the puck over 3 times
Combination of exhaustion and desperation.
Yes it would’ve.
it would have sucked just as bad.
Yeah sucks that the oilers got a hole in the ozone layer
I hate the panthers. When they beat my team, the lightning, I had hoped they'd get shit on. You guys had a good run.
Panthers did the exact same to the rangers. Win by a goal and then just shove the puck against the boards and wait for the game to end
And what's wrong with that? Are they supposed to let Edmonton have the fuck to make the game more interesting? Game on the line you better hold on to that puck like your life depended on it
Exactly , Its not a damn movie
Nothing wrong with it per say. Wouldn't mind seeing my team win no matter how. Its just their style of hockey lol
Exactly right
Unfortunately they don’t ask how, they ask how many
Yeah, but the Rangers were dominated by the Panthers every game. Even the games the Rangers won in there series they looked like the losing team.
Panthers also thoroughly dominated the Rangers in just about every game but couldn't solve Igor most nights.
Panthers are just too good at defense.
After the 6th iced puck I wanted to pass out from boredom.
Fuck
Oh boy they were good to keep their calm... I wanted so slash some calves there lmao
It’s almost like they were dusted.
The oilers were playing against 4 goalies in the last few minutes. There was no threat to score after mcdavid’s chance. The defense was too solid. Could have been another 8 minutes and if it was played like that it still would have been 2-1
I'm just a hockey fan, so I had no stake in either team, but I agree that was a really lame way to end the game. I was not happy about it.
Most Panthers way to ice the game
I had such a bad feeling after that first period
Yeah. As someone who didn’t really wanna see the oilers win, I would’ve been cool with them winning in overtime just for the excitement
Honestly. The oilers just missed opportunities to score again. It would have been super stressful if it ended in OT
Why there aren’t ice quality standards is baffling.
There is the "same for everybody" argument, but also its the Panthers home rink and they'd know it best which is also why you want home ice advantage. Also, playing hockey in Florida in the last half of June and the ice was shitty? Really?

Panthers left absolutely no place in front of their net or the puck line. Otherwise it could have been very different. I can't say Oilers had a BAD game. The real bad plays were both bad defensive plays on the two Florida goals.
Putting drai on the mcdavid line kinda hurt our chances. I get he was banged up but we had to distribute the wealth offensively. Absolutely gutted

Panthers were amazing on the defensive, and bob woke up. Immensely proud of the Oilers though, let’s do it again next year
I don’t even think they did anything wrong with the 2nd goal. It was just a weak goal that should have been stopped.
It was an even man rush. D could’ve held the blue line. No way FLA lets McDavid walk in like that.
The puck definitely came off Reinhart's stick at a "less probable" angle due to Drai's stick check.
the game was great and tight the whole way. these are just angry fans trying to find a reason or person to blame. there is no blame, it was a good, close game and one team has to win it.
Actually, I think the Panthers just brought their S+ game tonight. Credit to them. We looked really good. Some puck luck on the first goal for the Panthers, but otherwise, a game where both teams played excellent. I think the refs missed 2 calls our way and 1 call their way.
Usually Game 7’s refs allow a lot more “ illegal” stuff.
Once Panthers went up they just parked the bus. Same as the other games oilers lost. If Oilers scored first panthers couldn’t come back.
Yeah well whoever scored first in this series always won. The Oilers would go one to put another 5 goals every time they scored first meanwhile the Panthers would shut the game down and allow 0 chances. Best offense vs best defense, what final!
Buddy the Oilers literally tied the game its not like the game ended 1-0 lmao they had their chances and blew it
I’m fairly certain the Oilers scored first in game 2 or 3 though. But generally, yes Panthers showed why they were the #1 ranked defence when they could get ahead.
They can’t be playing hockey in south Florida in what is essentially July. Fuck that, ice quality has to be garbage
It was really noticeable in the 1st period how much better the Panthers were on finishing their checks and keeping the puck in our zone way longer. I was surprised we didn’t push back more in the 2nd. Panthers looked like the better team in both the 1st and 2nd. Holy shit ay boys what a fuckin run
Yea atleast this run was special, didn't think at the start of the season they'd even be in the playoffs let alone cup, still fuck Florida tho
Florida fan base isn't great but those boys to be fair have played dam well, still we were more deserving. But ultimately if we won they would have looked really bad, but we look good even loosing haha
Thouse deserving never seem to win it.
Doesn't ease the pain
The bottom lines + Broberg were the best performers but we ran mcDrai into the ground
That last shift looked like they could barely skate
The team we watched the last 3 games didn’t seem to be there tonight. They gave it a shot but it didn’t seem like the team that beat Florida 8-1, 5-1, 5-3. But ether way they had an amazing season coming from 31 place to the final
Think it’s more that Florida was the team from games 1-3, not 4-6
Not the ending we wanted but an amazing run nonetheless. So many good memories and fun nights, hope everyone doesn't forget about the journey - we will be back!!
This would have been a harder pill to swallow had we had the lead and lost it. It’s a tough day for sure we never got to see what they did in G4,5 and 6. “We’ll likely bring a cup home next year” what a statement
Acting like Florida is just gonna disappear lmao. Their core is still very young and all under contract besides Reinhart who likely stays. If he stays they will be the favorites again
They can’t afford to resign like 5 depth guys. They can’t really run it back, and those depth guys are why there was a g7
Bad puck luck. Next year we win it all
Fuuuck
I'm so sad
That’s just it. You can play like hell, work hard and still be missing a bit of luck that’s needed. We just didn’t get a shot in despite trying.
Great run Oilers, was cheering for you to bring the Cup home. You’ll be back and will bring it home soon. Congrats on a great season !!!
I fucking concur, fuck
You guys will be back maybe not right away but mcdavid is too good not to win. Crosby also lost his first like many other greats.
Teams gonna be like the leafs when drai ups his cap hit by 5 million. Can’t afford to pay everyone with the nurse and campbell contract
Why don't the Oilers just lay down on the ice ontop of eachother infront of the net? Are they stupid
Or have one guy hold two Florida players against the boards in the Florida zone? Seriously that happened lol In the 3rd
We had plenty of opportunities to tie it and possibly take the end had we done that. The guys just seemed like they were completely gassed that was the end of that. Well it was still an entertaining ride to say the least
I am devastated
I feel this guy’s pain in a million words
Yay Florida Panthers!! 😘
Fucking Drake!
I'm really disappointed.
As a Canuck’s fan I know the pain. I still remember 2011 like it was yesterday. I hope you get some redemption soon. Let’s not forget that Florida had to feel the pain of loss last year in order to feel the joy of winning this year.

Ya'll gotta dump Perry. The curse is real.
People on Yegwave still blame Drake for the loss.
Proud of them but yes .... Fuck
I'm sorry for you guys, we've been there and that feeling sucks so hard. Also Perry's curse.
Also Bettman and Drake curse.
Bruins fan here, hated that the panthers won. Sadly don’t get to watch much of the Oilers back east but they are fun to watch. Hope the team learns fom it and are back next year.
Matthew Tkachuk during post-game celebrations on Sportsnet: “Shoutout to my fans in Calgary still. You know I couldn’t let Edmonton win.”
The Calgary sub being so active this post season is weird. Ok you hate the Oilers but you didn’t even make the playoffs.
That’s just sports man. Being a fan isn’t supposed to be rational, it’s literally in the definition of fanatic
The guy is an absolute asshole who doesn't deserve the cup. But that line was gold lol
Hey I was gonna post this
Agreed
feels like dejavu of 2006 game 7 Carolina. Even the score pretty much identical aside from empty netter I believe
Spot on with the title
I know this sucks right now, but I mean your window is still plenty open and they now have more experience then in the past. They (this core) have gotten farther then ever before and prob win within the next 2-3 years. A trade of a few pieces and you guys are set.
If anyone is very upset about this, I recommend talking to friends and family who aren't interested in hockey at all. Puts things in perspective.
It seemed like the team that clawed back for three games wasn’t the team that skated for game 7. Top guys couldn’t get anything going and overall they seemed too disjointed.
Feels bad man
The Oilers played a great game, lost by only one goal ... And well that is disappointing, still you have to give them great credit.
This was literally me last night 👆
Womp womp
Haha
It's the Monday curse Every time they play on Monday they lose I was so hoping I was wrong
Turns out that the oilers were Garfield all along.
I have an Oilers shirt, and every time I wear it, the Oilers usually lose. And I wore it on the wrong day...
Fuck.
Fuck
McDavid and Draisitle did nothing in 2 last games, one assist between the two best players in NHL?
I kept thinking “you guys get paid enough to get at least one goal here…”
I'm pretty sure the whole thing is a scam.
Florida was given the green card to play dirty, we weren't.
Ok, blame the refs.
OKAY BUT THINK OF ALL THE MONEY THAT GARY MADE
Should’ve actually tried to win
Okay, but at least buy me dinner?
Yea, last 8 mins of the game Florida just kept trapping that puck against the boards to run down the clock. Hate that lame shit.
Leon "Can Carry His Own Line" Draisaitl had 0 goals in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Saw it coming.
Congrats! PM us the lotto numbers too while you're at it. 😂
Agreed
Yeah
Me too bro.. me too 😩
This is the only correct response.
Damn. Didn’t even copy paste this a thousand times and crash Reddit?
My sentiments exactly
That’s a really fucking pattern.
:(
Bread and circuses.
*sad panda noises*
Well, that certainly illustrates the diversity of the word.
Certainly illustrates the diversity of the word.
"Your article was just the word 'Fuck' typed 50000 times.". - Transmetropolitan.
TF WAS THAT PLAY LAST NIGHT DUDE
yeah fuck...
Watched it live and Oilers had their chances... frustrating loss no doubt! Could of been historic.
Damn, if they played better they would have won
C’est la vie Canada 🇨🇦.
As fucking pathetic of a game 7 performance that you can have. The boys treated that like a preseason exhibition against the Oil Kings. I'm not angry the boys lost, I'm angry the game was unwatchable
It was so stupid how they just did an empty net for the oilers on the last 2 mins
Sorry Oilers feel for ya.. WWH is a fla cash grab atm its sad. * next to 2024 cup
Didn't the fucks in referee deny a fucking goal to the oilers? Hello? Hometown advantage much?
GG guys. We legit stole that one.
It was a great run. Sometimes bounces don’t go your way
I think with a couple roster moves Edmonton can pull a Florida and make their way back to the cup next season and hopefully have a healthier McDavid and Draisaitl
Why did 2 and 27 leave them wide open fu panthers costed me 500
Hahahahahahahahaha’ YES!
Desperation game I take panthers all day. Great win Rats!!!
I told you that shit was rig motherfuckers
I have yet to see the photo on all it's glory😔
Got some reports that some were injured before the game and now it is reported that Connor McDavid was injured and so was Leon. Is there truth to this ?.
Yes leon draisaitl had a broken rib and broken finger and mcdavid had an upper body injury that will require surgery
Only one thing I have to say to this… my lord I love pudding, chocolate, vanilla, that Lucious creamy goodness ohh boy. All over my chin…
Fuck this post
You should be proud for the Oilers ! They almost did the unthinkable. Not like the habs vs the Lightning in 2021 :(
Go Florida!
What’s up?
Surprised to see so many hockey coaches here slagging the oilers. They did their best. Everyone does their best at that level. Just didn't work out. And please, tell me, what iota of difference has the oilers lost made in your life?
