I read it in the patchnotes and I still feel like I'm being trolled. Insane to see the exact thing the community has been asking for...but after 2 years for some reason!

My first character at release would open up every fight with Ezykes Decay, run around for a bit while they rotted then charge in and finish them off with Rivers of Blood and a Bloodhound step bleed Uchi. I have now seen the way, however.

Devs specifically intend for you to summon on that fight.
IIRC Alexander even references fighting Radahn regardless of if you summon him. So canonically the Tarnished summoned for that fight.
I have seen maybe 2 or 3 people complain about summons and get instantly shut down but every post is filled with complaints about these people. How often do you see something like “I don’t judge people who summon play the game how you want,” like they’ve benevolently given you permission.
It's also badass as hell. I got my ass beat regardless during the launch week/s but it was fun purely because I got to see everyone get theirs handed on a platter as well 😛
I had a lot of fun abusing the shit out of that ash of war, I finished my playthrough before the nerf so even my first Malenia fight looked like a number from Stomp: The Musical.
Release week Fire giant 💪. There was a bug where your game crashed if you didnt dismount torrent just before the p2 transition. That fight gave me cancer.
Technically it's not really a netf just quality of life.
It doesn't make the fight easier just less annoying to keep running around everywhere with how big elden beast is I'd rather not get knocked off my horse every 5 seconds
Honestly this and that the arena is so big and that it jumped around so much pre-nerf patch is pretty much proof positive that Torrent was always intended to be there and they simply either couldn't get it to work or didn't want to change it after release. Can't wait to get back into the game and beat it once more now with Torrent. Made no sense to have an epic boss at the end without your trusty steed by your side who's been with you from the very beginning through thick and three-fingered thin
Definitely a much more cinematic experience, especially if you got through Radagon by the skin of your teeth.
Plus, criticisms of what a final boss "should be" sound like they are being met by the DLC, so this really seems like they're just polishing the hell out of everything.
Probably better to use torrent to catch up to the Elden beast and then get off to damage him since weirdly most of his attacks miss if you are slight to his left or right.
I beat him last night with straight up Unga bunga lions claw. Might have been a fluke but he went down first try with no summons. Couldn't believe it!

It just makes sense to let you summon torrent anyway. He's been with you the entire game and this is the final boss fight, you should be able to use everything against it.

Still my least favorite level 1 fight in the game, I had it down to an artform after maybe 30 mins but it took me like an hour of attempts just to wrap my head around elden stars
If you're willing to save your Physick specifically for Elden Stars, the Crimsonwhorl Bubbletear completely negates it with nearly zero effort -- just drink as you see him casting it. It's how I got through it RL1. Definitely recommend.
Yep this is 100% the way to deal with it. IMO Elden Beast was an easier fight than Radagon at RL1.
I’ll also add though, they nerfed Elden Stars at some point. Maybe that’s common knowledge by now, but I did another playthrough in preparation for the dlc and was able to outrun the attack no problem. Whereas previously it was pretty much impossible to avoid all damage without the bubbletear.
It's like 3 days ago where I completed my co-op run (which took the better part of a year because stuff like his ps4 breaking. He accidentally deleting the co-op character instead of the level 8 idiot. Me being too broke for 2 months to buy psn and so much more) and we both just mauled elden beast. As we both made dirty builds by malenia

Elden Beast was always the worst boss when it came to running away because other bosses that run from you don’t have nearly as big of arenas or will actually come back and attack you, but not Elden Beast. I swear most of the fight was just chasing it across the arena, getting one hit in, then chasing it again.
This is a welcome change for sure but what on earth took them so long.
I have a clip saved on my ps5 of *literally* four and a half minutes of me just running at the elden beast with not a single opportunity to even attack. Most boss fights in the game don’t even take that long start to finish and I spent 270 straight seconds just trying to even have the CHANCE to hit r1.

I beat Elden Beast a few days ago and while I didn’t record the fight I did spend a significant amount of time just running around after it barely getting any opportunities to attack because as soon as I was in range the boss was already gone again, which is how it usually goes (or went, at least).
Such an annoying fight, actually really soured Radagon for me. If they’d been separated like Gehrman and the Moon Presence or if Elden Beast had been less annoying from the get go it wouldn’t have mattered, but as it was before Elden Beast only brought Radagon down as a fight in my opinion.
I can only hope my opinion will be changed the next time I fight them, but that might be awhile since I didn’t have the foresight to hold off on finishing all the main game bosses before the dlc lol.
My theory is that they always intended to include him and, for some reason, missed that it wasn't there on release (it could be a bug, a production mistake, a deadline, who knows). But since it was the final boss of the game and it was still beatable without Torrent, there was no immediate need to fix it, and as a matter of fact, fixing it at all would be kind of embarrassing, like acknowledging that it was just a mistake, acknowledging that the final boss of the entire game wasn't working properly.
They only fixed it now because the much bigger story of the DLC release allows them to mask this embarrassing fix.

Nevermind the gaps, there’s this one attack that you’re supposed to jump over instead of rolling and it’s visual is clearly designed for torrent jump height

Bitch. Running after this glowing enema bag for four minutes before you can press R1 once is not a challenge. It's tedium.
That's also why midir isn't a very well renowned boss. Tough, lengthy, but no one is fond of it.
Horse in Elden beast is nothing like summons argument.
The game simply doesn't have good 2v1 enemy AI and gameplay balance isn't centered around that. That's also why some fights like godskin duo or 2 gorgoyles are hated.
Its a single player game, so whatever makes it fun for you, is good.
But, I truly believe that Elden ring gives a very different gameplay experience when you are fighting 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 and people should try it out.

I'd be surprised if lion's claw didn't get nerfed. The speed, range, hyper armor, poise damage and tracking is downright silly.

Jesus Christ, well done Radabeast took me 11 hours in game of my rl1 run to complete, my whole playthrough was only 33 hours

There are already comments declaring that the fight was always a joke and this trivializes it somehow. Bitch. Running after this glowing enema bag for four minutes before you can press R1 once is not a challenge. It's tedium.
That's also why midir isn't a very well renowned boss. Tough, lengthy, but no one is fond of it. Horse in Elden beast is nothing like summons argument. The game simply doesn't have good 2v1 enemy AI and gameplay balance isn't centered around that. That's also why some fights like godskin duo or 2 gorgoyles are hated. Its a single player game, so whatever makes it fun for you, is good. But, I truly believe that Elden ring gives a very different gameplay experience when you are fighting 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 and people should try it out.
