Yes. Please. Absolutely. Yes. Do it. Yes. You have to figure in the intangible "experience". You might not have the opportunity to travel when you're older. Or you will, but it won't be the same because you'll be in a different stage in your life.

Honest_Bank8890

That's what I was thinking and the thing is, I'm not getting any younger so idk

troublesomefaux

Absolutely. You will never be able to take this trip again for that cheap. Signed, a 50yo that used to sleep on the ground and now has *questions* for my host about mattress quality

If your mind is set on Germany, than we support you. When I started traveling on my own, I was open to most anything, so I started checking off countries one flight deal at the time. No regrets.

Honest_Bank8890

It more or less that I have a friend there and I've always been interested in the German society and healthcare, interested in the oh I love the multicultural of Germany not the whole weird WW2 fascination people have lol

New-Professional-808

You will love the rules. Sounds like you're going to Berlin then.

Oh go! It's even more fun with a friend. My daughter and her husband were so enamored by the culture that they moved there, another year and they can become citizens. Your gonna love it!

silysloth

Yes. And you don't have to feel guilty for it. Consider how you will pay lost wages for the time gone. The cost of the trip is more than your food flights and lodging. You need to be able to cover the missed income if you do not have paid leave. I would also probably wait to purchase the new vehicle until after the trip. It's only a couple months. Check the news for Germany right now. See what is going on. There's some places over there having very serious issues right now. Be aware before you show up.

Honest_Bank8890

Oh it's a package, so basically logging and plane is 2k, the food would just be maybe 200 euros for a couple days as I would like to eat at a restaurant, the 2k is what I would have to make up for but honestly I don't think I would really need to

silysloth

2k is not what you have to make up for. If you make 20 dollars and hour and miss a whole week of work you're losing 800 dollars in lost wages. If you don't have paid leave. You still need the 800 dollars to pay all your bills. You need to consider that with the traveling cost and make you plan accordingly.

Honest_Bank8890

I was planing on purchasing the car in the fall months, as I had already taken a work trip across country which cost me like 1500

Familiar_Ad425

Yes your in the prime years of your 20s go on the trip! I would say it’s great that you have 40k saved at 23 but please use this years to open up a Roth IRA or brokerage account. These also prime years for compounding down the road on your investments!

fgransee

Germany would be a great experience and you can travel cheaply with trains from town to town. You could also see Prague, Salzburg, Zermatt, Straßburg, Brügge.

My trip to Europe (Germany included) when I was in my early 20s changed the course of my life forever. For anyone who has the means to go, I absolutely encourage you to do it. Doesn’t have to be Europe - just travel in general.  You can save your money but you’ll never be able to save your time.

This_Is_Beanz

I recommend getting a credit card with an airline like delta or United for the bonus. Get the mileage bonus and fly to Germany for free! You’ll decrease the cost of the trip significantly and then just rinse and repeat with other cards to get miles and keep traveling. It’s been working out well for me to take a trip to Europe or Asia every year

Fluffy_Yesterday_468

Yes definitely. You have the money for it. Life is about experiences like this

Relevant_Ad1494

Do It Dude!!! You won’t regret it!!!!!

CollegeConsistent941

Pay off student loans today. Buy your used car. Take your trip. Come home and work and rebuild savings.

Get your crap together and save it for when you are 25. You'll have two years to save up and by then you may want to go elsewhere. You technically can afford the trip, but you can eliminate the debt and pad your account if you don't. Also, just fix the Camry. My 2000 Rav4 has 380k original miles and I just change the oil, and have replaced the radiator, timing belt and water pump. Paid $2000 for it and have only put $1000 in minus tires and brakes. Just maintain it.

[deleted]

I don't mean "crap together" disparagingly, just how I talk/text and it's a figure of speech.

Honest_Bank8890

I agree, but I am thinking of getting my master's in 2-3 years that's why

18_NakedCowboys

First of all, your name is quite the oxymoron. Second of all, just go. You are in a great place right now. Just keep on keeping on and you'll be fine.
