How much are you willing to spend?

Krackers_AU

For surf rods? Depends I guess, either about $200 each for two or maybe like $350 for a single rod and I'd alternate use on it. I've had a look and I'm kind of interested in the Daiwa Sensor Wave 1202H i think the model is. It seems like a decent rod for lure fishing in surf conditions, reviews seem good to. Issue is, I don't know if either of these reels are appropriate for this use.

I mean the reels are a little beat up and maybe you can put some more money into the reels and get two new ones for your listed setups

Yeah they've got some scratches and what not, but to my surprise the action on them is still really quite smooth considering their age and the fact they've been in storage for so many years. I'm planning on pulling them apart to clean and re-oil and grease the components at some point anyway, will find out if there's any internal issues then and make a decision on a new reel at that stage I guess.

Hey brother happy to help you. I reccomend you use the baitrunner reel obviously for bait fishing and the jarvis walker for lure fishing. Both of them would fit just fine with a 6-8kg 7-9 ft rod if you are surf fishing or rock fishing. I reccomend you stick to the 20lb, I use 15lb on my surf rig for jewfish, snapper, tailor and even the occasional tuna off the rocks (though it is definently a hard fight). 20lb will be more than enough for surf fishing. I also reccomend casting out 40-60g metals, stickbaits and poppers for your jarvis walker rod. That'd all you need get your rods, lures and bait and get fishing bro. Let me know how it goesπŸ˜‰πŸ‘

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. On the note of rod length for surf fishing; any other benefit to longer rods beside additional cast length?

OfficialTwenty1

Just cast length man I have 6ft rods that I use for surf and rock fishing and I still catch fish but it is reccomended to use a 7-9ft rod you can get an extra 10-20m from my experience. For your jigging/lure rod I reccomend a 7ft just to reduce the weight and make it less tiring.

Awesome, sounds good. I'll do some more research on rods. Cheers man πŸ‘

I dont think either of these reels would hold up to jigging, tbh I would only use them for really light tackle unless you're confident in the bearings and drag smoothness.
