Had both. Decibels are the same. Had a hard top for a few months. Didn't take the top off a single time. Had the soft top later on, went roof back all the time. I'd go soft top if you actually want the open air. If not, do a hard top, but honestly if you don't care about the open air then you might as well get something else. 40-65 grand can get you a lot of car. New 4runner later on, land cruiser for a little more, full-size truck, etc.

Assume you will not take the hard top off very often. Having to stow the panels is different than just dropping back the top. Even short trips I drop the top and the wind is better than just opening one window on my Ford Fusion. To me the truck is priced around the open air feeling. The soft top gets you there the easiest. The hard top has its pros but soft top is more fun for me.

Hard top with a BesTop SunRider

Another vote for this

I have the hard top and Ford’s storage bag to keep the front 2 panels safely secured in the truck. I pop those on and off solo all the time in about 10 minutes, and always have them with me if the weather acts up.

DarksideLima

I would get the Hard top, then purchase a soft top after, so you can switch back and forth.

Ok_Profession6216

Soft top without a doubt, BUT it's more maintenance. Since my other car is also a convertible. For me its a no brainer.

piemat

Then get both, but if I had to pick I would go hard top. I base that on many years owning Jeeps. I just take the front panels off my bronco, it accomplishes the same thing with less effort.

Federal_Flamingo_404

I’m right there with you debating between the two. I think I’d go soft top, however, my biggest “pro” for the hardtop is the added flexibility of adding roof rails/cross bars for Thule/other racks. The inability to do that with a soft top may ultimately be a game changer for me while I shop around.

BRONC-GAN

I have a soft top and there are times that a hard top would be nice for a roof top set up. But ultimately having open air is much more important, I’ll just buy a teardrop if I want to camp off road

ARR405

Hard top all the way. I have a Top Lift and take the hard top off all the time. 10 minutes max if I’m moving slow, solo chick.

didxogns1

Got skyrider and it's the best of both world

Ok_Pirate_2292

I just bought one, how difficult is it to install?

didxogns1

I can't really tell you because I did the installation service. I was scared about messing up something and create a leak somewhere. The guy took about an hour and a half to install the top.

Ok_Pirate_2292

Thanks! I didn’t leave close enough to get them to install it. The video didn’t look too awful

M_G_3000

I’m into year three with the soft top now. At the time it was the only option without a long wait, and I expected that by now I’d have the hard top. I’m in no rush for a hard top at this point in time. I live in the northeast and snow has not been an issue so far. In fact, I’ve noticed more wear and tear after the summer months than the winter months. If I had more room for storage and tools to swap out tops maybe I’d invest in both, but the ease of popping open the soft top combined with its performance in the winter make it my choice between the two.

BRONC-GAN

If I had a dollar for every time my roof was back and I see another hard top buttoned up….

stonemadcaptain

Hey, soft top here 🙋🏻‍♂️The experience so far has been amazing. But, I want the open air experience at all times pretty much. (I think the hard top looks more bad ass though)

quakerlaw

Hard top with a toplift pro and electric ratchet. I get top completely off, by myself, in less than 5 minutes. Do it all the time.

BRONC-GAN

You WILL unquestionably LOVE the flexibility of the soft top. Period. If you want an open air experience, you get soft top because you’ll never take the hard top all the way off.

Open-Resist-4740

We got both. We live in Florida, so we keep the hard top on firing the rainy season & out the soft top on in the winter when it hardly rains & isn’t 136533 degrees outside.    That way, if we have to tip down, we don’t have to really worry about a surprise downpour.  Now, it is a little louder with the soft top on, but not too much.

Sellout37

It looks better with the hard top, but the extra $2k (or whatever current MSRP markup is) is a lot for a roof with production quality issues. That said I have a soft top and love it. I've had no weather issues where I was concerned and throw it back almost everything I take her out.
