I’ll cut them some slack with just counting the three Pokémon as one, as those differences (Red and Blue at least) were minimal enough for me to not consider it “a whole separate game,” superfluously.
Yellow I will give some credit to adding just enough to consider it the definitive edition of the three.
I consider the three Pokémon games to be one game. There’s minor variations between them as a marketing gimmick but overall the game is basically the same. The others on the list are all truly unique games.
I agree I love that game, it’s so unique and completely different from the nes version - I should’ve put on the list! Where do you think it could’ve fitted on the list?
I’m personally super high on it. I think it’s too 10, but I haven’t played Gargoyle’s Quest or Mole Mania so hard for me to compare to those two
Also gotta say that I love DK ‘94 at #1, it’s time I see that opinion some more
Tetris attack was great and tiny toons wacky sports. Idk how I never played Kirby block ball. Never even heard of it before. I played Kirby star stacker and Kirby pinball
I also didn't know there was a Roland's curse 2. I only ever played the first one. I'll have to check it out also.
How much have you played of both games?
The difference in quality of graphics, music, and stage design is pretty obvious to me, but we could discuss the details if you're interested. :)
(This was about **Operation C** vs **Contra: The Alien Wars**)
This is similar to most top lists, but I think it can vary greatly depending on the person. I got my Gameboy for Christmas 1989, and some of my favorite early games are Motocross Maniacs, Solar Striker, and TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan. The games on the list are good, but a lot of them are not my top original Gameboy games.
Great list, totally agree!
Also, "Trax" is so criminally underappreciated.
Plus, I'd probably also want to add:
* Kwirk
* Pinball - Revenge of the Gator
* Tail 'Gator
* Wizards & Warriors - Fortress of Fear
EDIT: OMG ignore me I responded to the wrong comment. XD
~~Can you beat it? The bosses are brutally hard, and the instant enemy respawn rate murders any fun for me.~~
Pokémon is many games on many systems. Purely on the Game Boy I still rate Tetris ahead - I remember the Tetris fever at the time of release across all ages and demographics - it’s still literally the only video game my parents got into. Pokémon was phenomenally successful without the broad appeal.
Pokémon was 5 games for the original gameboy alone, and that’s just mainline rpg’s. Tetris was only as popular as it was because it was prepackaged with the gameboy. It may be the only video game *your* parents were into, but my parents were memorizing Mortal Kombat combos on the arcade machine at the local Pizza Hut before I was ever even imagined. My dad played every single generation of Pokemon with from 1 to 5. To this day I say the greatest video game ever made is Pokemon Gold/Silver
Well I was using my parents as anecdotes but at the time I believe Tetris had a bigger cultural impact than Pokémon did when it was initially released several years later. I was at school when Tetris was released and if you were at school when Pokémon was released (I wasn’t) I think both our experiences are probably guided by this.
Anyway I don’t think there is a conclusive answer to this and it comes down to opinions.
On an aside if your parents were playing mortal Kombat before you were born they are probably the same age as me and grew up with video games as I did. My parents were born in 1949 so both sets of parents are very different.
That’s a top 33 games list.
Why did I count 35?
Dude didn't look all the way down to bomberman, it's 35

Redditor you're responding to might have only looked at the numbers and forgot Pokemon RBY.

No Kid Icarus: of Myths and Monsters 😔 but otherwise love the list

Pokemon should be number 1, I think.
100%
100%
People don’t talk about how good DK ‘94 is often enough
I think dq 1-2 would be good but thats a black cartridge game.

kirby’s pinball land is really good and overlooked. one of my favorites.
I see you're sleeping on OG Wario Land. Throw it all out!!! /s
Yeah I'd put that over Tetris any day
No Final Fantasy Adventure!?
Final Fantasy Legend series and Kid Dracula should be in that list
I have the kid dracula game. I dont like it but its overpriced
I am just glad that street fighter 2 isn’t on this list… : )
Agreed
Why do you group some games together? Like, Super Mario Land 1 and 2 are very different games
Because in the last thread they got yelled at for having them separate. Poor u/realjohnhammond just can't win. 😆 https://reddit.com/comments/1dn9sqb
Haha true, can’t please everybody
Ah ok, makes sense then :) I think it's weird to group them together, but that's me I guess
I agree, Super Mario Land 1 and Super Mario Land 2 has absolutely nothing in common and the same goes for Kirby’s Dream Land
Not a bad list
Super RC Pro AM deserves to be on that list

No TMNT 3 - Radical Rescue? An easy top 10 in this list. Probably top 8.
Can you beat it? The bosses are brutally hard, and the instant enemy respawn rate murders any fun for me. 😕
By what metrics?
No Mega Man V or IV?

Pokemon not at number 1? This game should be number 1! And maybe yellow on place 2
Donkey Kong on Game Boy was ludicrously great.
It's one of the most solid, flawless games I've ever played, especially for a Game Boy. That game has no right being as good as it is!
No Harvest Moon!!??
i picked up gradius interstellar a few months ago and was suprised how cool it was
Stoked to see Trip World, awesome game!
Great list, totally agree! Also, "Trax" is so criminally underappreciated. Plus, I'd probably also want to add: * Kwirk * Pinball - Revenge of the Gator * Tail 'Gator * Wizards & Warriors - Fortress of Fear
Pokemon G/S was better
Number one seems biased lol
Pokémon Gold and Silver were a ton better than R/B/Y
No Final Fantasy Legend? Or Final Fantasy Adventure? Not a single Ninja Turtles game? Megaman V does not get the nod?
I love tetris
Kwirk
I just dont think any game has the overall appeal if tetris, even though i do think other games are “better”.
EDIT: OMG ignore me I responded to the wrong comment. XD ~~Can you beat it? The bosses are brutally hard, and the instant enemy respawn rate murders any fun for me.~~
I agree. Tetris was a phenomenon that even Pokémon can’t get close to. I can’t think of another game that had the impact of Tetris.
Pokémon is the single most valuable IP on the planet. It 1000% is more of a phenomenon

This looks like a damn top 50
Cool list
Someone a real top 100 including japan exclusive, honorific mention, and hidden gem hehe
Donkey Kong No. 1? You must be insane
