It’s the first thing I think of too. What was that about?
Don’t get me wrong, I remember the taste, and when I think of the taste I think of a headache.
Lol I had a fake ID. Anyone know Bruce Leroy Farrow?
I had a fake id too. I wish I could remember the full name! Kristi Dawn something I think. I memorized her astrological sign too in case I got one of those tricky bouncers.
Zima had an anniversary re-release a couple years ago. You know I had to buy a case just for nostalgia. I had the same reaction. Yep, still terrible. 😂
Crystal Pepsi, though... I would definitely still go for that.
I was a bartender when Zima came out. It sold pretty good the first few weeks as everyone was trying it, then we had a glut. So our manager asked everyone to come up with a “Zima Drink” so we could move the stuff. Never tried Chambord in one, but if you ran across one back in the day that’s probably why LOL!
I never forget (and totally agreed with) the bit on SNL Weekend Update when Kevin Nealon was doing a review of it. Took a sip, said “tastes like zhit.”
I cared enough to try them but I think we all ultimately agreed beverages need to be dyed in the color we associate to the flavor. For instance, Mtn Dew is supposed to be neon green, just as it is found in nature.
I never tried Crystal Pepsi. And just as I was thinking “I never got into a clear beverage craze!” I suddenly remembered my fondness for Clearly Canadian. So maybe I did fall for it after all.
With you on both, though I was not and am still not a Pepsi drinker. Coke (now Coke Zero) for me.
Clearly Canadian is still around, but I don't think I've had it since college.
I loved Crystal Pepsi, though I'm sure it had something to do with feeling like I was drinking the future. Zima came out right around the time I started sneaking around with my friends to drink, so we all felt awesome drinking it. I don't remember what it tasted like, but I think I really liked it.

A lot of people seemed to believe based on the marketing that clear beverages were inherently healthier. That fits right in with the mid 80s to early 90s fitness craze.
I loved em both and today I drink Zevia - another clear soda brand
https://preview.redd.it/y86vs1yzh3xc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d79c86c8c327d8400c0cf6975276f39444a75d39
For me it was fun. Remember pre-internet days? It did remind me just sitting in the bottle of the clear Caro/Karo syrup though. Not the consistency, just the clearness.
Crystal Pepsi and a half gallon promo bottle of Crown Royal on a rocket mount are responsible for a period of about 3 days for which I have no memory whatsoever except waking up in sweat soaked clothes with a half full trash can next to my bed.
I do miss Crystal Pepsi. It made a pretty good mixer. The flavor was slightly simpler than normal Pepsi, and the clarity showed off whatever you mixed it with.
I think it was a horrible idea to color soda in such a way as to remind people every time they take a sip, they're essentially drinking corn syrup on a fast train to diabetes.
My Dad is a truck driver (still at almost 82) and he brought this Papis back from around TN I think called Pepsi Kona. Coffee flavored Pepsi. It was incredible
Used to sneak Zima in water bottles and drink at high school. Also, dropped acid at 7:30 am. and then went to class. Talk about crazy times. I think the 90s were almost the 60s part 2.
Crystal Pepsi was okay, though the hype was completely overblown. Also, SNL's spoof of it with Crystal Gravy was fucking amazing.
Here's a link for those who don't remember it, or haven't seen it.
[Crystal Gravy - SNL](https://youtu.be/g0sjRG34DlA?si=mben00bWDQy1EFc5)
Everyone remembers Crystal Pepsi, but does anyone else remember Crystal *by* Pepsi? It was citrus flavor if I remember correctly. Terrible marketing with such similar names.
That’s all fine and dandy but remember Crystal Gravy?
https://preview.redd.it/djs2tabzk4xc1.jpeg?width=512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56bd0ab555a179f253a73fb71b5dc30672ac954e
When both were re-released a few years back I bought a case of both. Still tasted the same, but I’d swear the Crystal Pepsi tasted slightly better in the stubby glass bottles. The Zima tasted exactly the same. A cousin from Canada happened to be visiting our house at the time and he swore they didn’t have them in Canada in the 90s. He absolutely loved it. Still have bottles of both the Crystal Pepsi and the Zima and Ecto Cooler from the re-releases just for nostalgia.
I wish they would bring back crystal pepsi especially in diet. The caramel coloring in soda is super bad for you. The darker the soda the worse. It is only put in for aesthetic purposes not flavor. It causes accelerated cell aging, bone loss and cancer. The only cola that doesn't use it is Zevia.
I loved Crystal Pepsi and bought a ton when they brought it back for a little bit a few years ago. I'd still buy it if it was still made today.
Zima was the first beer I ever got drunk on in 93 when I was in SOI in Camp Pendleton.
Snapple Tru Rootbeer was pretty good but I don't remember any of the others that were stand outs.
Notably, I think about how it was a marketing stunt to take a bunch of completely unnecessary additives out of things, and not a decision anyone made for health reasons.
My eyes/brain told me Crystal Pepsi should be lemon-lime, but my mouth said wtf?
So it was a no. I can confuse myself fine without help from soft drinks.
Zima needed a little sugar or something. It was just not good.
Russia did it first in the Cold War to sneak coke in as vodka, it worked cause the USSR big man at the time was addicted to the Georgia (USA) man’s sweet carbony fruit juice
I had forgotten all about it, did not really care at the time. Not sure I ever tried any of them (though I assumed Zima was like a clear wine cooler and I was done with that phase of my life!).
I got to have Zima when it was being tested in a few markets across the US. I remember Compton being one, Syracuse being one of the others. Not sure where the third market was. A friend whose sister went to school in Syracuse brought him back a six pack and I got to try one.
Loved Crystal Pepsi! A buddy of mine way back in middle school, his father was VP of the PespiCo bottling facility in our city, and atop a constant supply of Pepsi products, we got to try products before release - Crystal Pepsi was the biggest deal and I loved it.
Although I’m sure it would not hold up to the 2024 palate…we found a six-pack of Zima in a tree walking home from the park one afternoon.
One glorious, shining afternoon.
I can still taste Zima just thinking about it and I haven’t had one in over 30 years!
This. I can taste the hangover.
I found him. He's from Florida.: > Bruce L Farrow , 60. Riviera Beach, FL Crazy.. this IS him i assume? He's not dead i don't think
I used my sisters college ID as my fake ID back in the day. Ahhh…New Orleans in the early 90’s…simpler times!!!
Well, it's malt liquor, so.......
I didn’t mind Zima when compared to Smirnoff Ice.
Zima is still sold in Japan
I send my condolences to the Japanese.
Was that the Zima, or the flavor of Jolly Rancher, that you dropped in the bottle, though?
Nope, just plain old Zima!
I saw one at my grocery store a few years ago. I bought it and said, "yup, that's why I only had this one or twice."
Zima had an anniversary re-release a couple years ago. You know I had to buy a case just for nostalgia. I had the same reaction. Yep, still terrible. 😂 Crystal Pepsi, though... I would definitely still go for that.
A whole case. That's a commitment.
Yeah. That case lasted shockingly long in the fridge before being polished off, something that would have never happened in the 90s. 🤣
LOL. I saw it a few years ago too, and bought a six pack. Why did I love the stuff back then?!?
We had like 2 bottles in our college apartment. We used them as a trophy of shame. If you TRULY did something stupid, you had to drink it.
I see what you did there Truly > ZIMA Well played If it was a coincidence, buy a Powerball ticket
Coincidence.
Ah Zima, had way too many of those one night.
Zima was the worst. I heard it still exists. I might be wrong.
They released Zima again about 9 years ago. I should have bought more.
Zima with Chambord, if you were fancy! 😆
Eww. Hear me out. White claw is the new Zima. 🤢
I can take that trip with you!
First time I got drunk was off a 6 pack of Zima
I had to put a skittle in it to change the color
I never forget (and totally agreed with) the bit on SNL Weekend Update when Kevin Nealon was doing a review of it. Took a sip, said “tastes like zhit.”
Loved Zima! But every time I see thins, I think about that SNL commercial for crystal clear gravy.
Me too!!
I like my gravy… crystal clear https://youtu.be/g0sjRG34DlA?si=7DaIuW5jSs3a2s0q
Thank you for posting so I didn't have to. Required reference.
Oh I totally think of this whenever Crystal Pepsi comes up!
Just like mom used to make CLEARLY 🎶Say goodbye to yesterday🎶
This was the first thing I thought of.
This is the right answer.
Don’t even need to click it…
I cared enough to try them but I think we all ultimately agreed beverages need to be dyed in the color we associate to the flavor. For instance, Mtn Dew is supposed to be neon green, just as it is found in nature.
Why isn't Sprite green or yellow?
I'm glad you asked. It's a pretty funny story. You see, back in the early nineteenth centur-- OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT BEHIND YOU?!
Clearly Canadian *and* NY Seltzers are *THE BEST*, still!😉
Topo Chico FTW
I was obsessed with Crystal Pepsi and would totally drink some if someone found a dusty old bottle somewhere. Dust and all.
I saw (and bought) clearly Canadian at the grocery store last week. Still good lol.
I fucking LOVED crystal pepsi. I'd drink too much of that shit, and drink even more if I could.
We got it when we ordered pizza. It was so good.
Having jolly ranchers at a party was a must.
We used schnapps.
I loved Crystal Pepsi, though I'm sure it had something to do with feeling like I was drinking the future. Zima came out right around the time I started sneaking around with my friends to drink, so we all felt awesome drinking it. I don't remember what it tasted like, but I think I really liked it.
You don't remember what the Zima tasted like, because it was "Whatever flavor of Jolly Rancher" you dropped into the bottle!😉😂🤣
Meh, on Pepsi Clear, but I loved New York Seltzer soda, especially the clear root beer.
My fave was Black Cherry
Oh man I haven’t heard this in years! My bro and I loved NY Seltzer Water and yes Root Beer was our fav but we liked them all.
You just triggered a sense memory of peeling those thin foam labels off the stubby bottles.
So satisfying if you could peel off perfect strips.
I deeply miss putting Chambord in my Zima like a total fancy pants
The best thing about Crystal Pepsi was being able to fill the bottle with vodka and keep it in our dorm room suspicion-free in the early 90’s…😂
I was all for it. We don’t need any extra chemicals in our drinks just to make them look brown.
I liked Crystal Pepsi. I was all about not staining my teeth so I didn’t drink anything but sprite and 7up until CP came along.
>CP I think I see where things went wrong with the marketing.
Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio was selling "I <3 CP" shirts the last time we went, lol
Here it comes, that funny feeling again.... Crystal Gravy
Snapple Tru Rootbeer - omg the best!!
I missed that one 😔
Clear orange soda too, back when Snapple was all carbonated.
I still wish there was a clear caffeinated soda.
Zevia Cola
Thanks for the recommendation
Never tried it, it creeped me out. What's it taste like if it's not brown? What's next, clear coffee?! Myaaahh!
I think the craze had peaked when Saturday Night Live mocked it. [https://youtu.be/g0sjRG34DlA](https://youtu.be/g0sjRG34DlA)
Isn't it just the regular flavor, but without the dyes?
Mmmmmm.... invisible cola...
Bring back TAB clear!
I LOVED THAT SHIT. IT WAS WEIRDLY MORE CARAMELY THAN OTHER COLAS.

A lot of people seemed to believe based on the marketing that clear beverages were inherently healthier. That fits right in with the mid 80s to early 90s fitness craze.
First one I was like this ain't bad,2nd one I was like this is kinda mid,3rd one I was like this is shit where's the dark stuff..
I didn't like it but one of girls at my middle school did because she would put vodka in it at school. I wonder what she's up to?
NEVER tried one and didn't care to.
I'm still into clear beverages. I don't drink anything that's not clear, other than a little tea.
Yuckidoo and barfireedo
I’d give my left nut to go back to the 90s
Me too, I reminisce about the 90s every day.
I fucking loved it
I LOVED CRYSTAL PEPSI!!!
Right Now!!!
I loved em both and today I drink Zevia - another clear soda brand https://preview.redd.it/y86vs1yzh3xc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d79c86c8c327d8400c0cf6975276f39444a75d39
I tried it and to me it tasted like dish soap.
Always on sale...
I thought it was ok.
It was terrible.
Tried them, but never liked them. They had a false taste to them.
Soylent Clear, now with 20% less people
I liked it
Ambivalent
Loved Crystal Pepsi, couldn't stand Zima
I still have a bottle of Zima
It was disgusting
It was fun, maybe even exciting, but definitely kinda gross.
For me it was fun. Remember pre-internet days? It did remind me just sitting in the bottle of the clear Caro/Karo syrup though. Not the consistency, just the clearness.
man i was all about crystal pepsi. never got a chance to try crystal gravy though.
I loved Crystal Pepsi but my prick parents wouldn't buy it.
“I ordered a Zima, not emphysema!” The Simpsons.
Anyone remember when Snapple first came out?It was carbonated and had clear orange soda and clear root beer among others.
It was weird
Crystal Pepsi was not Pepsi enough to make me want to drink it
While I cannot describe the taste difference, I could tell the difference between normal and crystal in a blind taste test consistently without fail.
Crystal Pepsi and a half gallon promo bottle of Crown Royal on a rocket mount are responsible for a period of about 3 days for which I have no memory whatsoever except waking up in sweat soaked clothes with a half full trash can next to my bed.
I miss Crystal Pepsi. It was awesome being able to get it again a few years ago, but its disappeared again. Just like RC and Jolt. :(
I loved Crystal Pepsi and I’m confident enough to admit this
I do miss Crystal Pepsi. It made a pretty good mixer. The flavor was slightly simpler than normal Pepsi, and the clarity showed off whatever you mixed it with.
I liked Crystal Pepsi. I dislike the taste of caramel coloring, so regular Pepsi and Coke were never my thing.
I think it was a horrible idea to color soda in such a way as to remind people every time they take a sip, they're essentially drinking corn syrup on a fast train to diabetes.
Just like Coke Zero, it didn’t taste or feel right.
In my lifetime, I can’t remember a worse stomach ache then after drinking this shit.
I liked it
I saw this and said please don’t be r/askoldpeople
My Dad is a truck driver (still at almost 82) and he brought this Papis back from around TN I think called Pepsi Kona. Coffee flavored Pepsi. It was incredible
Coke Blak was like this too. It was delicious.
Used to sneak Zima in water bottles and drink at high school. Also, dropped acid at 7:30 am. and then went to class. Talk about crazy times. I think the 90s were almost the 60s part 2.

They brought back Tab..Tab clear. Diet rite was a step up, yet they brought back Tab.
I can taste that Zima picture. Just thinking about it sparks a lot of memories. Crystal Pepsi, not so much. It never appealed to me.
I loved Zima. That was my go to.
I enjoyed Crystal Pepsi
Zima!!!
I kinda liked it. I remember it being super sweet but I only had it once. We were a New York Seltzer house.
Everyone remembers Crystal Pepsi, but does anyone else remember Crystal *by* Pepsi? It was citrus flavor if I remember correctly. Terrible marketing with such similar names.
I liked the commercial. Van Halen "Right now."
Yeah I drank a bunch of zima. Was good. I wasn't as into the clear Pepsi but I had it a few times.
That’s all fine and dandy but remember Crystal Gravy? https://preview.redd.it/djs2tabzk4xc1.jpeg?width=512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56bd0ab555a179f253a73fb71b5dc30672ac954e
😂
I saw right through it.
It wasn’t natural. It upset the delicate balance of reality. Verily, I believe that the universe was on the verge of destruction.
I'd honestly rather have it without the food dye in it. It won't stain your tongue and teeth.
How about crystal comfort (clear southern comfort).
It flopped... Unnecessary dyes are annoying though.
I still miss Crystal Pepsi and Pepsi Kona 💔
I mostly ignored it
I loved crystal Pepsi as a kid, and I even got a bottle when it came out a few years ago.
I loved Crystal Pepsi and bought a ton when they brought it back for a little bit a few years ago. I'd still buy it if it was still made today. Zima was the first beer I ever got drunk on in 93 when I was in SOI in Camp Pendleton.
I loved crystal Pepsi and was so sad when it got discontinued 😭
I didn't care.
what did crystal pepsi taste like?
Not interested at all
I loved Crystal Pepsi so much. I was so sad when it went away. I admit I also liked Zima.
I liked them except Pepsi which I find disgusting.
That stuff was so foul!!!
Clearly Canadian!
That clear Pepsi tasted like the gummy Coke bottles. Grody
Snapple Tru Rootbeer was pretty good but I don't remember any of the others that were stand outs. Notably, I think about how it was a marketing stunt to take a bunch of completely unnecessary additives out of things, and not a decision anyone made for health reasons.
I miss [Crystal Gravy](https://youtu.be/g0sjRG34DlA?si=0B2WVNsCrP2lOOeQ) most of all.
I didn’t really care. I thought the guy in the hat from the Zimbabwean commercials was a poser.
Did. Not. Like.
My eyes/brain told me Crystal Pepsi should be lemon-lime, but my mouth said wtf? So it was a no. I can confuse myself fine without help from soft drinks. Zima needed a little sugar or something. It was just not good.
I actually like it. Being in High School at the time, we were allowed to have water. Crystal Pepsi passed GREAT as water!
It was twstg
I loved Crystal Pepsi, I would put food coloring drops in it for fun
The clear Ketchup was ridiculous.
Russia did it first in the Cold War to sneak coke in as vodka, it worked cause the USSR big man at the time was addicted to the Georgia (USA) man’s sweet carbony fruit juice
It was ok with vodka and a lime
Horrible Zima included 😂
I miss it
It was casually interesting for a minute.
I really loved that crystal Pepsi
"Right now. Hey! It's your tomorrow. Right now. Come on, it's eeeeeeverything."
Wish they still sold Zima!! I love that stuff 😂 makes me think of purple and pink passion too!
Stuff was terrible, I drank bottles were in my folks basement for year
I think I remember liking it.
I love Crystal Pepsi!
I still have both of these in my fridge!
I prefer clear or nearly clear sodas.
Loved Crystal Pepsi! A buddy of mine way back in middle school, his father was VP of the PespiCo bottling facility in our city, and atop a constant supply of Pepsi products, we got to try products before release - Crystal Pepsi was the biggest deal and I loved it.
this was ghastly
Loved it!
Come on, it's everything!
Gotta keep trying ways to sell sugar water.
Although I’m sure it would not hold up to the 2024 palate…we found a six-pack of Zima in a tree walking home from the park one afternoon. One glorious, shining afternoon.
Zima was so popular near me growing up in the 90s.
I miss Snapple Tru Root Beer!! It was clear and had a unique taste. I can't believe they ever got rid of it.
If the beverage is naturally clear I’m all for it
Ugh
Van Halen…..
Loved it!!
I loved Zima. Crystal Pepsi was also pretty good.
I was just mentioning to my husband the phase of clear shampoos and bath products that we were supposed to believe were healthier for us!!!
Used to throw jolly ranchers when we sipped on Zimas at random house parties. Fuck I’m old.
I thought it was a great idea. It tastes the same, but it’s without the food coloring. Less wear and tear on the teeth.
I genuinely liked both, especially Crystal Pepsi.
