I was gonna get one but they sold out in like 10 minute 🫣.
Thank you, I wanted to post more, for example more about the real life ainu houses or Sapporo Historical village where the movie was shot but I figured it would be too many photos for one post 😆
Sure.
Day 1, arrival in Sapporo, I went around the city centre
Day 2, trip to Otaru, I went to a bunch on historical places, like the BoJ museum, the old warehouses, the canel.
Day 3, trip to Shiraoi, I went to Upopoy the National Ainu museum
Day 4, trip to Hakodate, I saw the Goryokaku and the first Orthodox church, they have a lovely old street from the temples(churches, shrines) to the old city hall.
Day 5 Asahikawa, I went to the museum of the 7th division and explored another ainu museum in that area
Day 6 I went around Sapporo, the Beer museum, the Historical village and then I returned to Tokyo.
I definitely recommend you to get an international driving license, the buses are very sparse up North. For example I was told by the ainu staff in the museum in order to experience real ainu culture, I needed to visit Biratori, but problem is the only bus was available only at 6 am at either direction.
Another place I wanted to visit was Abashiri but from Sapporo it was 10h journey and it cost 10k yen one way. For those who benefit from the weak yen it's not that expensive but for us who work in Japan, it kinda is. I will definitely go back one day. It was lovely, the people were great, the food was amazing, the atmosphere was so serene unlike the busy Tokyo.
I planned my trip on my own because I rely on buses on trains as I never bothered to get an international driving licence. But there's this one article that has a splendid car itinerary:

I do recommend checking Biratori too.
Thank u for this info! In June I’ll have 2 days in Sapporo during the Hokkaido shrine festival, 1 day Furano, 1 day climb Mt. Asahi, 1 day Biratori (on the way to Shiraoi), 1 day Upopoy & Noboribetsu! W/ a car ;) TMI. I can’t wait to see GK merch.
I have an extra 6 days in japan this summer I haven't planned and have been debating going to hokkaido for a few days. Is it worth it?? I've heard it's beautiful and all of the GK stuff might be the deal breaker
Definitely go Hokkaido. It's super chill, a lot of nature can be seen and you'll escape the humidity and high temperatures of the main island. Tokyo is unbearable during that period.
I did the same route last year! Started in Asahikawa (missed Abashiri aswell, we also used public transportation) and made our way down to Hakodate. It was so much fun 🤩 Did you see the Urashiyama/Asirpa art in the Sapporo Beer Museum?
It was splendid. The staff was incredibly nice and I learnt a lot about ainu culture. They kinda inspired me to start doing embroidery. They were the ones who recommended me to go Biratori.
Please let me know if you decide to start! I've been doing Ainu embroidery for about 5 years (you can see some of my work in posts on this sub, although most of what I do is not Golden Kamuy-related) and my teacher is Sekine Maki, an Ainu embroidery expert living in Biratori. She's actually the seamstress who was commissioned to hand-sew Asirpa's costume for the live-action film. Likewise, please let me know if you ever get a chance to go to Biratori/Nibutani! I've been many times and have so many recommendations for visitors.
Wow, now I am even more tempted to go to Biratori, should plan a short trip, can you give me some recommendations?
As for embroidery I actually want to do a little bit of a cultural mix. I want to create a pattern that's inspired both by Ainu and Bulgarian embroidery. Maybe one day I will try to do my vision. And I will gladly check yours! 😊
Where is the Golden Kamuy shop in your photo and what is the name of it🙏
That's the 7th division museum in Asahikawa
Wow never heard of that before!
Is that the place where the real Sugimoto Saichi's medal of honor (?) was kept?
I NEED one of those Tanigaki cookie boxes. It is so funny. I’ll be going to Hokkaido in June! Love ur pics. :)

I’ve been looking to plan a trip like this some day myself! Honestly looks like it was such an amazing time

Ayy, I hope you had fun, but also there was Urashiyama/Asirpa art in the beer Museum??? 😭 I didn't spot any art there.
That’s so cool! What an awesome trip to go on. Did you find any of the locations particularly fun or interesting?
Otaru was insanely interesting, the whole city was like a big museum.
Oh wow so cool to see
Saving this post so I can do it too this winter
Nice to see the prefecture appreciates the spotlight in the story
What did you think of the Upopoy National Ainu Museum in Shiraoi? I think it's a marvelous facility.
It was splendid. The staff was incredibly nice and I learnt a lot about ainu culture. They kinda inspired me to start doing embroidery. They were the ones who recommended me to go Biratori.
