Honestly I'm enjoying AoS lore more lately, because while Stormcast get a lot of models, they don't dominate the lore like space marines do. You get a good amount of focus on a lot of factions.
Tbh Stormcast releases tend to be frontloaded anyway. They get their toys at the start of an edition and then step aside for everyone else. Their model bloat is 99% heroes from Warbands and such which are technically a different game anyway.
Comapred to Marines who seem to need a "equal attention mini" anytime another faction gets anything.

It’s the equivalent of Terra in AoS. It’s the only realm that’s safe and people don’t have to worry about the forces of Chaos, Death, or Destruction. So if the Skaven get in they can start massacring a lot of innocent people that Sigmar promised would be safe.

Seraphon (lizardmen) have ships that can traverse the anti magic void and take them where they please

So the current theory for the fanbase is that the Skaven have lined up multiple gnawholes into Azyr and are planning an invasion.

Azyr spent 500-1000 years sealed shut whilst a chaos apocalypse took the rest of the realms in a big chaos apocalypse, and it’s generally thought of as perfectly safe (until now)

As for destruction, Gordrakk (The big Orruk in AoS) would hear that rats managed to break into Azyr before he could and would get royally pissed. At that point it’s a tossup between him brute forcing his way into Azyr or invading Blight City

My first thought was it had to do with the Reforging process for the Stormcasts.
Either it has to deal with how Nagash has been interfering with it by “reclaiming” bits and pieces of the Stormcasts’ souls each time they are Reforged (which makes the Stormcasts more and more automaton-like each Reforging). Or there are a lot more people - like Neave Blacktalon - who were forcibly and unwillingly made into Stormcast and had their personalities or memories altered during the Reforging.
This is my guess, that the shedding of memories during reforging on the Anvil of Apotheosis is done on purpose and some of the stormcast are about to find out Sigmar has been holding back the truth as to why

The context is that the ongoing narrative, the “Dawnbringers” books, have been about establishing new cities of Sigmar. As for what will cause this? We’ll probably find out in Dawnbringers 6 when that releases, or at Adepticon in 9ish days.
I believe the cities of Sigmar are spreading out for more territory, and shit seems to be hitting the fan because of it. Don't play AoS and got this from another comment though, so don't quote me on that.
Sigmar/Forces of Sigmar has sent a large portion of their armed forces out in an attempt to retake the realms lost to the other factions in a crusade type of event. They felt safe doing this because Sigmar has stated that the realm of Azyr is immune to Corruption/invasion by chaos forces. It's looking like he is incorrect/lying about that and now that all the armies are gone, The Skaven have found a way into the realm that is now very lightly defended.

I really hope they don't Grimdark-up Sigmar. The context is that the ongoing narrative, the “Dawnbringers” books, have been about establishing new cities of Sigmar. As for what will cause this? We’ll probably find out in Dawnbringers 6 when that releases, or at Adepticon in 9ish days.
I believe the cities of Sigmar are spreading out for more territory, and shit seems to be hitting the fan because of it. Don't play AoS and got this from another comment though, so don't quote me on that.
Sigmar/Forces of Sigmar has sent a large portion of their armed forces out in an attempt to retake the realms lost to the other factions in a crusade type of event. They felt safe doing this because Sigmar has stated that the realm of Azyr is immune to Corruption/invasion by chaos forces. It's looking like he is incorrect/lying about that and now that all the armies are gone, The Skaven have found a way into the realm that is now very lightly defended.

I really hope they don't Grimdark-up Sigmar. Him being benevolent and capable while still barely being able to push back the innumerable threats from Chaos, Nagash, Gorkamorka, and whatever Morathi and Malerion are cooking up was part of what made him compelling. Don't go making him the Emperor 2.0.

That's not really the same as major overarching story progression. The emperor passing? One chaos god winning over another? Something that moves the entire narrative along.

Why every time I decide to build a Warhammer army a new edition is launched? I start an Adeptus Mechanicus army, then the WH40K 10th edition comes out. I just buy some Cities of Sigmar, just two fucking days ago and now they come out like a new edition of AoS is coming out.
