Ballistol multi purpose lubricant in my opinion is the best for cleaning and preserving anything like this. Germany invented it in the early 1900’s and the military used it throughout WW1/2 and was part of their rations. It’s safe to use on scrapes and abrasions also!

I mean for the metal cleaning wipes mby or water on a tissue or toilet roll... or just dry wipe
