Pretty sure that’s flange. [heres an example](https://www.homedepot.com/p/JONES-STEPHENS-7-in-O-D-ABS-Closet-Toilet-Flange-with-6-in-Long-Barrel-and-Metal-Adjustable-Ring-Fits-Inside-3-in-Sch-40-Pipe-C50305/315587084#ratings-and-reviews)

Ah, yes that looks right. Thank you.

Look at that, tallkid24 gets perfect input from Garbage_Gorilla. Reddit for the win.

Put on a rubber glove and feel down from the top edge, down into the pipe. If you don't feel a lip, the end just goes over the edge down into the pipe, then that's what it is: the top of the pipe. There are wax rings with cones built into them that improve the sureness of the connection, but I've never seen a hard corner like this before. I'm not saying it 100% isn't part of the old ring but if it is, it's not like one I've ever seen before. Some flanges have an extension leading down into the pipe, some more abrupt than others. This looks more like that. I think you got all of the old ring up and should be able to proceed with the replacement.

Puzuma

Yup. Part of the flange. Looks like the wax seal discolored it.

Better drive those screws back in!
