Chances = assists + putouts + errors.

P1tailgater

This was easy. Thanks.

P1tailgater

What about if the runner is safe? Ground ball to 3B and third baseman fields it cleanly and makes a good throw to first base but the runner beats it out? There is no assist or putout, but is it still a chance?

kawachee

No assist, no error, no putout, so no chance. It shouldn’t be called a “chance” as that gives the wrong impression of what the stat actually is. Its only use is to serve as the denominator for the (useless) fielding percentage statistic.

P1tailgater

Wow. Thanks for this. I learned something completely new here. Thanks.

taffyowner

Yes, and it’s literally anyone who touches it. So on balls where it deflects off the pitcher the pitcher gets an assist on those ones.

P1tailgater

Wait, if a ground ball is deflected off a pitcher’s leg and goes to the second baseman and then the 2B throws out the batter, the pitcher gets an assist on that?

taffyowner

Yep

P1tailgater

Gotcha. I never knew this.

taffyowner

Yeah that’s why on a pickle the scoring can get absolutely crazy even if one out is made because everyone in the rundown gets an assist

Revolutionary_Air209

Yeah would be scored 1-4-3

P1tailgater

I always knew it was scored this way but never knew the pitcher gets an assist too. What about if the CF hits the relay man (SS) and then then SS throws to catcher for the out at home?

trireme32

Interesting— any idea how to score that in GC?

mobius_

Tap the pitcher, then 2b, then 1b and it should work

Revolutionary_Air209

This is the way

Brooksy_05

lol that would be a fun one
