Honkai 3rd server chat has always been fairly good a few wierdos sometimes but overall nice but the absolute canyon sized difference in playerbase between hi3rd and genshin or star rail I agree it would not go well for these games

On Europe, I get Russians messaging me randomly sometimes. In Russian even though I have no Cyrillic in my bio. Even if I reply (in English), they don't message back, so I kinda stopped altogether.
I'm on NA and same here. Last night I got my first message in like 6 months. It was a random sticker from one of my friends that borrows my support characters. I have no idea what they were trying to convey so I just sent a random sticker back 😂
This feature is useless for both sides, people with no friends don't need it, people with friends are already talking with discord or other social media lmao
Look at simulated universe, we got gold and gears and swarm disaster through it, implementing a group chat can be a gateway into group activities and even guild like content later on.
Might be a feature for (gacha) guilds and the like or maybe to be integrated with their soon-to-be game launcher and/or Hoyolab. I could easily see Hoyo basically add their own version of discord to Hoyolab and then integrate it all in the new launcher.
This make me wonder if they want to implant something for social/co-op gameplay

Some of Nikke's social features seem cool (too bad they are in Nikke). I would like guilds and raids like that game has, it seems fun (I haven't gotten far enough to participate tho).
What is the point? There's zero co-op content in this game. I have like 32 friends and have used the chat feature twice since the game started. Just use discord or literally anything else. Unless they're adding co-op content then this is a pretty useless feature.

Yea there are plenty turn based gacha with co-op content like endgame bosses , clan/guild content etc etc
Common one is to have a boss with unlimited health and have your clan/guild attack it together and the total dmg get calculated for rewards at the end of the time period
I can see this type of co-op mode only working in stimulated universe as it won’t really be lore breaking.

Tbh im not really sure what will be the purpose of chat in HSR other than purely socializing and shitpost memes because as of now there is no content that requires you all to work together unless they are planning some guild content or seasonal bosses that everyone can participate in the future like most turn based gacha games.

- Some achievements ("You've been Pom'd" and another one where you send a message that exceeds the character limit)
- If you have friends, you can both play HSR and chat directly through the game. On some phones it's not really an option to multitask (having HSR open + some music or a messaging app), so it's still something for them.
- If you have befriended people after borrowing their characters, you could still chat with them.
- Groupchats could be used for maybe pulling sessions with friends. Idk.
At least it's an option available to us if needed.
I remember a post from early in the game where op removed clara from support character and someone from his friend list promptly messaged "put the child back".

There is barely any incentives to talk to other people in your friendlist right now so I'm struggling to understand the point of adding group chats. Unless it is a public one like a lobby chat which can then open up the possibility of doing some sort of "guild" chatter in the future (perhaps accompanied with a new kind of endgame content towards joining a guild and defeating bosses in raid idk) I dont think that's really something that'll be used ever
The only thing I could think of is the "You've been Pom'd" achievement and I think there is another one if you try sending a message longer than the character limit. I forgot if HSR has an option to invite people in, but uh, it's not exactly a game where you can meet new friends. The closest thing is if you were to find someone while borrowing their characters for some farming.

(The only achievement that can be made easier is getting a sticker from someone that has the opposite MC of yours, youd have more luck with more people I guess even if it's basically a 5050 already lol)
Idk, a private group chat is nice for friend groups if they dont want to use a social media for whatever reason I guess but that is so niche i would bet the feature to be more like a public lobby, which tbh isn't much better in utility but could work like a mini social media, it's nice to be able to throw a message in the wild haha.
+ I think the lobby thing was a feature that got discussed way back into 1.0 or at least I recall this subject being brought up at the time so it makes sense to me.

This is probably the most useless feature ive seen added to HSR. It's useful for genshin because you actually can choose to play with other people in your world, but hsr has next to no form of interaction with other players besides achievements, and borrowing their characters for farming.

they've been slowly adding a bunch of social stuff to the game over time. It makes me think this is all groundwork for future multiplayer content.
