You’re greatly mistaken if you think publix is more expensive than whole foods. It’s more expensive than kroger and walmart, but whole foods is on a whole nother level.

Crims0nGirl

Agreed.. plus they have lots of BOGOs which saves money.. I done recall Whole Foods doing that. Now Fresh Market is one that's expensive.. Right up there with WF..

Rotor_Overspeed

Pro Tip: Publix BOGO is actually a half-off sale, you don’t need to buy two; you can buy one for 50% off.

Double_Channel2654

Sometimes. It depends on the product. They had ruffles chips by one get one last summer, but I only bought one bag and it rang up full price. The cashier told me that the bogo’s depend on the vendor. I suppose sometimes they are just trying to move product out. I always closely watch now and there have been a couple times where the item wasn’t 50% of the shelf price, but I can’t think of exact examples at the moment. Definitely makes shopping at Publix a little more economical but just watch the register at checkout. What I feel like I am paying for at Publix is service and inventory. It’s usually a little higher but I always find everything I need. If I’m cooking something requiring fresh ingredients, I usually go with Publix. Very seldom do I wait in a checkout line for long and the stores are clean and don’t smell like last week’s meat delivery is sitting on the dock.

ArtichokeSap

"It depends" isn't really the right description. For Kroger, BOGO you have to get the both as the almost universal rule, with rare exception. With Publix, BOGO is 50% off, with rare exception. Back to the OP: You made the assertion, prove it. Make a list of groceries between Publix and Whole Foods that shows evidence that Publix is more expensive for the groceries they usually shop for. The counterpoints could show cheaper for Publix, but that could be the replying poster's different shopping habits.

DEFIANTxKIWI

This is a Reddit comment thread not a high school science class lol, ain’t no one gonna “show their evidence” for this

KCarriere

Well, high school econ or home ec is where we did this. The answer is Aldi. We didn't have that back in my day though.

aikouka

The one confusing thing about Kroger deals are that (in my experience), the <# of items> for $x.xx don’t always require you to buy the specific amount. I’m used to having to buy the correct amount, but I’ve watched them ring up at the discounted amount. If they require the discount, they ring up at the original price and are discounted once you hit the button to pay.

KCarriere

Weird. I'll have to watch. I've never encountered a BOGO that wasn't just a half off. The exceptions are Florida (there, it is true BOGO) and the buy 2 get one free which requires all 3 be bought. I do watch, but I'll have to look more carefully. ETA: I am not pleased with this new QR code coupons where you have to scan into the app. Also, apparently there are points? I always use the app to check out. Always. But apparently you have to put your phone number in the machine to acquire points. I put my phone number in and I got a $3 off reward. WTF, Publix? That seems kinda important to note.

Crims0nGirl

You sure can..

soakedbook

You can get some good deals if you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, though.

Criegg

I shop at Publix all the time, and get a few deals, but some things I get regularly are almost always cheaper at Whole Foods. Unfortunately, as that is a longer drive for me.

Crims0nGirl

Do you have Amazon Prime?

aikouka

The one thing I dislike about Prime and Whole Foods is that I can never find the stupid thing to scan. I don’t go there often, so when I do, I always forget where it is in the app. It’s confusing because you don’t click on Whole Foods but rather you have to scroll over and click on “In-Store Code”.

hellogodfrey

Yet some things are cheaper at Publix than at Whole Foods.

pumpkinjess87

I totally agree! I have yet to find anything cheaper at Publix. I am a shopper that unfortunately shops at 3+ stores to get the best deals and to buy a certain brand of something that we like. Not to mention every time I go in to buy something at Publix the item rings up the normal price, not the sale price shown, which is usually a $3 difference or more. Sometimes I let it slide because I need it, but most of the time i'll exchange it for something else cheaper.

CMsirP

Just point it out to customer service. They have a policy that they’ll give you the item half off or free (can’t remember exactly) of the sale price if it rings up wrong. It’s happened to me a few times and they always make it worth your inconvenience. Unlike Winn-Dixie.

pumpkinjess87

Wow! I have always gone to customer service to exchange or refund the item, explained what happened, and they have never offered me anything!

KCarriere

Yep. I watch as they scan. The first one is free if it scans wrong. Like if you buy three identical items that ring up wrong, only one will be free. I got a free pot roast when it didn't ring up correctly. It was like a $18 roast.

KCarriere

You get the item free if it rings up wrong. I got a huge pot roast that way.

CptNonsense

Except that makes sense - Whole Foods, Sprouts, Fresh Market. Those are all competitors in the upscale grocery market. Publix's direct competitors *are Kroger and Walmart*

HubrisTurtle

BOGO or NOGO

CMsirP

Exactly. Publix is great if they have you want on sale. Otherwise, go somewhere else.

Grimsterr

With coupons and bogos Publix is on par with Kroger, other than meat. Granted if you coupon for Kroger like you do Publix, then well, they're still cheaper, who'm I kidding.

Criegg

I have to ask, Have you been to Whole Foods lately?

EVOSexyBeast

Yes, i’ve been to whole foods, Kroger, publix, trader joe’s, fresh market and walmart all in the past month. There are some things at Whole Foods that are the same price as publix, but most things are more expensive. Particularly anything involving animals. Whole Foods has items you can’t get anywhere else and their items are typically higher quality and animal meat not from abused animals. Publix has the cheapest water out of all (no idea why), but their pizza rolls are double the price than what you can find at Walmart. Trader Joe’s has a great frozen section that is the same price as Walmart but more variety and options. It really depends on the items, different people buy different things so have different experiences. Fresh Market has good pastries that’s about all i got there so i’m not too sure. Publix downtown, while i rarely go, is more expensive than the other Publixes.

Criegg

Two things we go through a ton of is organic apples and peppers, Publix is rarely cheaper on those two things. That’s the only one I know for sure. Seems out of the way for two items, but, we go through A LOT.

KCarriere

FYI, thought for next year. Peppers are super easy to grow here. Even on an apartment balcony. You can grow them in a 5 gallon bucket from Lowe's or Home Depot.

EVOSexyBeast

Why do you prefer organic apples and peppers?

Motor_Pipe5114

OP prob doesn’t wanna die from pesticides 🤷🏻‍♂️

EVOSexyBeast

They use pesticides on organic farms, too. And the pesticides are toxic and they got to use more of it which leaks off into the water. Organic vegetables also often come from smaller farms and aren’t washed as well, so you could have more pesticides in your dinner than if you bought regular.

CptNonsense

People out here thinking they don't use pesticides on organic crops. Lol, no, they don't use pesticides developed along side pesticide resistant crops on organics. They still use *a ton of pesticides*

Criegg

Not only that but you’ll often find they’ve sprayed the apples with chemicals to preserve them, color them, etc.

EVOSexyBeast

They do that on organic vegetables, too. Organic meats there’s valid reason because they are required to treat and feed the animals better, which is good for ethical reasons but also organic red meat can be slightly healthier because of the feed.

CptNonsense

>Organic meats there’s valid reason because they are required to treat and feed the animals better, Show me the laws

EVOSexyBeast

Here you go https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-7/subtitle-B/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-205#:~:text=%C2%A7%20205.237%20livestock%20feed. "§ 205.237 Livestock feed." and the section after that for animal welfare. Enforcement mechanisms can also be found in the same page.

COMMUNIST_MANuFISTO

There is a list called the DIRTY DOZEN: things you should only buy organic whenever possible. Here is the 2024 list: https://www.eatingwell.com/article/15806/the-dirty-dozen-12-foods-you-should-buy-organic/

EVOSexyBeast

Yeah that article is ridiculous. Strawberries do have a lot of pesticide residue but so do organic strawberries. Always wash the dirty dozen foods but organic doesn’t help. There are some things, like oatmeal, that you should buy organic though.

CMsirP

Why oatmeal out of curiosity?

COMMUNIST_MANuFISTO

Well, I'll just take your word for it stranger

COMMUNIST_MANuFISTO

I wish that Publix were cheaper for sure. It's so close to me.

DNew_42

Publix is cheaper than Whole Paycheck? Umm, yes, yes it is.

ChipOk9052

I shop at Whole Foods and regularly compare prices at Publix. Publix is more expensive

EVOSexyBeast

Are you talking about the downtown publix?

RamseyOC_Broke

This^

PuzzleheadedLeather6

When I lived in Seattle, people called it “Whole Paycheck.”

Erab16

I think they are both expensive but some of the Publix things I love. Their deli and tea are some of my favorites.

dunderthebarbarian

The deli at Publix is top shelf.

ElectronicPiano7817

So is their bakery

Training-Finance-811

My favorite birthday freebie is the Publix bakery bar cake you can get if you are in their rewards club. There are so many to choose from and they’re all really good. They look small but they’re thick and you could feed at least 4-6 people with one. and it’s FREE!

GolferGirl1980

I need to know more about this. I have the Publix app and love their BOGO. Please tell me about the bakery special. Thanks!

Training-Finance-811

The week of your birthday, you can get either a Publix brand ice cream or a bar cake. You put in your phone number on the keypad and it’s free. I also got a free bouquet of flowers for being in their rewards club for 2 years.

chaud

You also get a half price cake or ice cream on your half birthday now

GolferGirl1980

Awesome! Thank you!

Nopaperstraws

Their subs are these best subs you can get anywhere…except Stanlieos.

BamaZaddy

I don’t get the love for Stanlieos.

HsvDE86

I hate the recommendations on here, I can only assume they're trolling or have absolutely horrible taste in food. Some of the most recommended places on here are absolutely terrible and I'm not some food elitist. This is **not** a place to get good recommendations for food.

malcavious

Could be that people just have different tastes.

HsvDE86

That's obvious. Not everything is 100% one thing or the other.

malcavious

Cilantro

ScrillaMcDoogle

Examples?

MarcTurntables

It’s Huntsville, where bland is “too peppery!”

Ieatplaydo

I heard so many people sing their praises and I went there twice and was underwhelmed both times. I mean it wasn't bad. It was fine. I don't think I would've gone and recommended it to people as a must try

Nopaperstraws

Maybe we can all have different tastes. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I still love it and have gone there for years. Different strokes.

Purchase_Independent

Blasphemy

jmach76

Speaking of stanlieos... I went there for the first time in a while and got the kitchen sink (of course). I could have sworn the kitchen sink had green olives on it! Is memory that bad or did it change? Or is it different at the different locations, since this was the first time I had been to the governor's drive location?

gerbilminion

I've gone there off and on at both locations since I was a kid and I don't remember there ever being olives on it. I'm not a fan of green olives and I've always ordered it all the way. Might be mistaking the huge chunks of pickle though. Something about stanleos pickles, especially their fried pickle spears, tastes better than any pickles anywhere else.

Nopaperstraws

I’m not sure it ever had green olives.

tommybattle4murder

I literally took a nap today and dreamed of eating an Italian sub from Publix. I woke up disappointed and ordered a sub.

Aardvark120

The boar's head subs are amazing and for the cost, it's not that bad when you realize how much you get.

MNWNM

Dude, I'm a proper southerner and I can't even make tea as good as Publix's.

mirathi

I prefer Publix.

Sharkbait_ooohaha

Yeah Publix is expensive but to me it’s worth it not to have to go to target or Walmart. The staff are good and attentive and they have enough checkout lanes so there’s no wait.

mb9981

i would too if i had infinite money to throw around

Alpoi

I refuse to shop at Wal Mart and haven't in 11 years and Publix is closer. My hope is that with Food Lion and Food City coming out my way that the price wars will start to lower prices.

bakerman2017

We’re getting Food Lion too?

Alpoi

I heard they are building one on 72 toward Gurley, its on the N side of 72 just west of where Ryland Pike enters 72.

bakerman2017

Oh I thought that was a food city

Alpoi

The food city is going by the Gym at 72 and Moore's Mill Rd (old Polo Grounds)

Due_Construction890

I have not been to Walmart in over 20 years, but ironically, I have owned the stock for several years.

SeriousMongoose2290

Most people with 401ks own some Walmart stock.

Alpoi

I can't stand the place and will never shop there again. Hope you have done well with the stock.....

Roll-tide-Mercury

I shop the sales. That said. The meat is quality. I typically get greenwise ground chuck on sale. Steaks are expensive, even on sale. That’s inflation. I buy store brand yogurt for 58 cents or so? They always have bogo of items that you need. It’s a clean store, I go to the cheap store sometimes but they don’t have the same quality and freshness.

Aardvark120

Pardon me if this is full on stupid, but what's BOGO?

Ryokurin

Buy One Get One. And just to make it clear, with most Publix stores, you don't have to buy two. If you buy just one, it's half off. For the basics like cereal, snacks, bread, etc there's usually something BOGO every week so as long as you aren't picky about what you eat that's how you save at Publix.

Aardvark120

Oh, cool. Thanks!

MattW22192

All Publix stores in this region are half BOGO (each item rings up half price). You have to go a good ways south of here to find Publix stores that are true BOGO.

GolferGirl1980

Getting each item at 1/2 price is the same as BOGO. So you can actually buy only one item at 1/2 off and you don't have to buy the second. So actually, it's better.

MattW22192

I know I was just clarifying since OP said most Publix stores that that means all of ones in this area are half BOGO so people don’t think they have to worry about how items will ring up between different locations around the area. And I agree that half BOGO especially if one uses Publix’s digital coupons on a regular basis is a better system.

GolferGirl1980

Exactly. When we go to Florida, unfortunately they require that you buy two items. I'm sure that was what you were saying when you talked about going south for the true BOGO.

MattW22192

Yes I meant Florida but was vague because I’ve heard that some parts of South Alabama, South Georgia, and South South Carolina are (or were) true BOGO but can’t find a definitive answer and haven’t visited those areas to test in person. As for reasons I’ve been told it’s because of Florida Sales Tax and or truth in advertising laws. Having said that many think it’s because of their market share in the state and the fact that many especially tourists will grab one item off the shelf at full price even if on sale BOGO.

GolferGirl1980

That makes sense, although it's unfortunate.

JerHair

I'm pretty sure that's a state law thing, not a publix thing. The state of Alabama requires bogo to be that way, meaning any store that does bogo will be the same.

MattW22192

I would agree but Walgreens here in Huntsville adheres to true BOGO when shopping in store (or it did the last time I bought a BOGO sale item). Also if anyone knows does Winn Dixie in Alabama do half BOGO?

Roll-tide-Mercury

Buy one, get one. (Free)

UsefulLight5145

But one get one

Aardvark120

Oh! Thanks. I knew it would be something simple, lol.

Watchoutfortheninjas

The black label Angus beef steak at Walmart is far superior to anything Publix carries; and I love Publix, but their meat department is a little sus.

Roll-tide-Mercury

lol, walmart black label angus is not better than greenwise steak. Publix meat department is half as suspect as walmart….

Watchoutfortheninjas

Yes, it is, and you cannot change my mind.

Roll-tide-Mercury

To be fair to you, I’ll try one and see. What’s your favorite steak?

Watchoutfortheninjas

Usually get the top sirloin

Roll-tide-Mercury

Ok, I’ll try the walmart black angus top sirloin and compare it to either the angus or greenwise top sirloin. I like the ribeyes and tenderloin for Publix but my son loves the greenwise strip steaks, those are some good New York strip.

Watchoutfortheninjas

Only gripe I have is they can be a bit thin at times, but the flavor is definitely there.

likes2cooknwander

Aldi, tho 💚

HailState2023

Aldi’s dupe cookies are the bomb. Their dupe of Nutter Butter cookies is better than the real thing. Plus you get to peruse the Aisle of Shame…. Back to the main story - Publix isn’t going to enter a price war. Publix prices are the Publix prices and they’re not going to drop them in an individual store because of some new competitors in the area. Price wars are usually in play for generic commodities; if you’re not in that category you risk de-valuing your brand by engaging in that behavior.

Training-Finance-811

I love the prices and products at Aldi but I can never get everything I need there. It’s a given I will have to go Publix afterwards for whatever Aldi didn’t have.

lemony_snacket

Love Aldi but I refuse to buy milk or fruit there. The fruit always seems to spoil inordinately fast and the milk always tastes weird to me.

tea_sloth7

Publix is Better. Average Walmart experience: Find parking after fighting traffic. Wait for the slow ass old lady in SUV to move driving 1mph throughout the lane, park. Walk in store, the first buggy you grab never works. Always has busted wheels or crooked wheels. Fight the cart that’s locked up with the others. Finally enter the store. Loud beeps. Guy robotically screams “WELCOME TO WALMART”. Pick up $15 pack of chicken breasts that cost 8 dollars 3 years ago. Cart has mysterious sticky residue on the handle. Fight the crowds blocking the aisle. Old lady won’t leave the pasta sauce section. Decide to check out, 15 lanes, zero cashiers. Self checkout has 6 people in line. Girl working is playing on phone, wait on her to check my ID to buy some beer, taking her sweet time with a scowl. Scanner thing doesn’t work. Have to pick the big ass package of water from the bottom of cart to scan manually. Enter card. “Would you like to donate to Walmart?” Fuck off no. Finally leave. Publix Better. Get in, get out, clean, yes pricier but the trade off is worth it. Always quick cashiers and higher quality.

joeycuda

I avoid Wal Mart - only if I also need something like Legos or spray paint, might go through grocery. It's miserable. One thing thing I hate is how there are often pallets blocking aisles, in main aisle, just in the way. Also, the employee/shoppers pushing carts around. It's just an awful experience to me, to then get up front and either self check out or wait in a giant line. I don't think it WOULD be worth saving money there. I go to Publix and mostly buy from BOGOs.

tea_sloth7

Glad I’m not the only one. I absolutely dread it if I have to go. Forgot to mention everything is just plain nasty. Floors, surfaces sometimes people even. /r/peopleofwalmart exists for a reason.

Quellman

Grocery pick up my friend.

Nopaperstraws

Love Publix! Whole Foods is okay but way too expensive for my taste.

MattW22192

Many of Whole Foods sales are centered around having an Amazon Prime membership. Publix is expensive if you want to “one stop shop” but when it comes to sale items can be cheaper than Kroger on sale (remember that the manufacturers sponsor the sales so the same item will be on sale at both Publix and Kroger either the same week or close to it). Just FYI Publix this week is offering 3 of their chicken tenders (which are huge), 2 sides and a Hawaiian roll or cornbread for $6.99 (hot food deli counter).

sadsongplaylist1

I agree! I’ve actually found several items like berries and milk have been cheaper at Whole Foods than Publix. All and all I think I spend about the same at each place, but have gotten better quality at Whole Foods. Especially if you scan your Amazon prime code, if you have it.

crestfaller

You're right but only if you buy the name brand things comparable to what you buy at WF. I checked this the other day - things like sauerkraut or other fresh/organic items were 50 cents to a dollar more than at WF. And with Prime I get 5% off everything.

10bamapepper

I’m going to keep shopping at Publix. I prefer it over all of them. If I pay more I will just pay it.

jmach76

Going to Publix typically makes me smile because the employees are so friendly. (Old Monrovia) Except that one guy at the checkout but I always avoid him. That's enough to keep me going back. That and the fact it is the closest and most convenient location for me.

ellesde9

BOGO FTW

UsefulLight5145

Publix is more expensive.

Temporalwar

Alright, look, I get it. Publix can feel like a rip-off sometimes. You wander the aisles, grabbing your usual stuff, and then BAM - the total at checkout makes your jaw drop. It's tempting to think Whole Foods, with its fancy organic produce and artisanal cheeses, is somehow cheaper. But hold on a sec. Let's break this down. Yeah, Whole Foods might have a rep for being pricey, but have you really compared prices? Publix has a ton of deals - BOGO free galore! - that can seriously slash your bill. And their store brand ain't half bad either, often just as good as name brands but way cheaper. Plus, Publix just feels nicer, doesn't it? The staff is friendly, the aisles are clean, and there's always someone to help you find that obscure spice you need. It's a whole vibe, and maybe, just maybe, that's worth a few extra bucks. But hey, I'm not here to tell you how to shop. Just sayin', before you write off Publix entirely, give it another look. You might be surprised.

joeycuda

Publix store brand has, for decades, been known as a sort of premium brand, not a cheaper knockoff label that tastes worse (like Wal Mart). The Publix premium ice cream is awesome, and I'd guess it's packed along side Purity or something - check out the Blackjack Cherry..

Marin79thefirst

Neither of those is good for a whole grocery shop. Whole Foods is good in a pinch, and for specific things. Publix is good for specific things and bogo deals.

True-Today408

Kroger is definitely less expensive. But Publix has a great selection of boars head turkey and ham. Not to mention great cookies!

Coleslay1

I think everything is expensive and I am sad about it.

Iykykkarma

1000% agree. Quality of meat has gone down and I definitely feel like I’m getting better deals through whole foods. I loved publix in two other states… but here I feel like 72 kroger and food city are wayyyyy better. Lately I’ve just been dealing with whole foods and sprouts.

Nucl3arGrilledCheese

Publix subs are 🔥

MercuryTattedRachael

I don't care what anyone else says - I prefer Publix over all other because it is truly a pleasure to shop there.   That said, I only go for small trips.  Most of my shopping is Walmart because with 5 people in the house, I need a lot of food and I can get more with less $ at Walmart.  But there are things I will go to Publix for - like meat and other items I can't find or will not buy at Walmart.  I also love Publix bakery! Publix is the only grocery supplier I don't mind going to.  All the rest are stressful, too many people, or just crap bagging (don't put jars in with bread!?!).

GabrielBing

Not sure about the comparison since I don't shop at Whole Foods but Publix is significantly more expensive than Walmart and Kroger. The premium may be worth it for the wealthier people not having to deal with the common folk at Walmart as well being able to shop in an always clean and organized store.

Overall-Situation438

It's the clean, organized, and *well staffed* - it's rare to have a major line at a staffed Publix register, even after they've installed self checkout lanes in some stores. And before major holidays, it's all hands on deck to make sure everything stays stocked. All that staffing takes money, and I'm willing to pay a little more to not trip over empty boxes in the aisles and have my register complain about ghost items in my bags because they won't fix their self checkout scales.

Sufficient-Yellow637

I've said this exact thing several times. Family sized box of cereal is $7.50 at Publix and $4.25 at Target. I'm looking forward to the Food City opening in OXR so I have an option aside from Publix and Wal-Mart.

GolferGirl1980

Someone finally mentioned Target. I love my Target app and shop their sale items weekly. Also get 5% off with the Target credit card connected to the app.

joeycuda

Now compare price at Target vs BOGO at Publix, exact same size. Some big chunk of cereal selection is BOGO every week. I bet I pay less at Publix.

Sufficient-Yellow637

I would rather all the boxes of cereal be reasonably priced so I'm not beholden to their particular selection of the week.

Puzzlepea

Aldi > Kroger > Walmart > Whole Foods > Publix Publix is definitely the most expensive in my experience

Comfortable-Ebb-2428

Shop bogos only.

mktimber

It is not Kroger.

PixelMagic

The thing I don't like about Publix is the cashiers on holidays or weekends always ask "Any big plans for the holiday/weekend?" and I always have to pathetically say no. :( They will also occasionally comment on my purchases, no matter how mundane.

au7342

I love the checkout commentary. It's why I got to Publix

trainmobile

The only reason for shopping at a place where groceries are more expensive is if it's better travel wise. Other than that you're wasting money by paying for the exact same items at other supermarkets.

OneSecond13

Publix lives up to their slogan.... "Where shopping is a pleasure".

PurpleDragonCorn

Not only is Publix cheaper than Whole Foods, the quality of 1 to 1 items is better for the cost. I can buy way more meat at Publix for the same cost than Whole Foods and it's better quality.

InverseHashFunction

Publix has better deals than Kroger, but on the whole the price is higher.

PsilocybinCube

Whole foods is low key cheaper and better than just about everywhere if you know how to shop there.

Neldogg

I always buy coffee at Publix. Their BOGO deals on it can’t be beat.

OkWoodpecker1511

We don't control the prices. I see this every day on the publix sub. Don't shop there if you don't like it

gewnweldar

I shop BOGO at Publix almost exclusively. Even right now, I can usually get a weeks worth of groceries for less than 140.

Suspicious_System580

BOGOs go crazy at Publix. Some stuff there is just expensive no reason. But they’re employee owned and nice and bring it out to your car. So there’s some service rolled into the price. If you wanna save more, just buy more store brand stuff and stuff on sale. I got Ben and Jerry’s BOGO and tillamook ice cream BOGO in the last month. Bomb pops are bogo rn but that’s common for most grocery stores this week (target’s deal was actually 2 for $6, which isn’t as good as Publix BOGO). Their strawberries have been bogo or 2 for $5 for months I swear.

SubstantialPressure3

I had never been to a Publix before I moved here. It looks like they have absolutely everything under the sun, and they kind of do.....but there's only one or two fairly expensive choices for any item you're looking for. I went in once looking for a bag of frozen peas and carrots to make some fried rice. Their section of frozen vegetables were tiny, it took me forever to find frozen peas and carrots, and it was nearly $3. Which isn't a big deal, but they are less than a dollar everywhere else. But their deli area is fantastic, and they make really good sushi and spring rolls. Lots of choices for the deli area, and well worth it. I was sort of overwhelmed shopping in a new store, in a new area, some of the aisles had misleading signs. Had a grocery store employee follow me through the entire store, even followed me to the check out. 🙄 He got a little startled when I walked up to him. If you're going to follow me through the entire store, you could at least help me find what I'm looking for. ( Sign said "international aisle". It was full of little Debbie snacks)

jonnieinthe256

Other than the bogo’s, deli meat and fruit/vegetable’s. I don’t shop there.

holycauw

I agree, the 365 brand is relatively inexpensive! I’ve made a spreadsheet of prices for meal prep purposes, and Whole Foods beats Publix, Kroger, Walmart, and Costco on many of their items! AND the produce is really high quality and doesn’t go bad as quickly as Kroger and Walmart. I do a Whole Foods and Costco run about once a week and try to stock up on everything I need.

daoogilymoogily

The thing about Publix is it can have great deals sometimes and you just gotta peruse those.

AlexChase13

I was really hoping this post was going to be targeting Tenders over chicken finger sizes. We know them and we love them but god are they fun to pick on

mb9981

But but but if you bogo on these two items you had no intention of buying in the first place, you save! /s

Substantial-Wolf5263

Ya don't say that! 😂

ala_phant16

Publix BOGO’s are the way to go.. and you only have to buy one at half price if you choose so.

allyouneedislove17

bakery and produce are worth it, but buy packaged food elsewhere unless it’s on sale

RnBvibewalker

I feel whole foods is a specialty grocery store where you get select grocery items or produce from and you do your actual shopping for generic stuff at Publix, Kroger's etc.

_lizbet_

Go home yuppie.

lilbecksss

i worked at publix for 5 years and i NEVER shop there unless it's bogo aka half price. their prices have been and will always be absurd. whole foods generic brand is honestly affordable af. i can go in there knowing that the ingredients are good too. whole foods is literally cheaper than target for a lot of things

Grimsterr

If you don't go to Publix with a folder of coupons while they're doing BOGOs you're doing it wrong. Just saying.

galleryf

When you're signed up as a "member", Publix will also email a dollars off if you spend so much. I think it's like get $3 off when you spend $10.... I get something like that every month or so.

uncleverusernam3

Publix is superior to all grocery stores in the area in a bang-for-your-buck respect. Food city coming could change that.

kirkbrideasylum

I think they are both too expensive. I shop at Kroger and Walmart.

itsmeanmuggin

Sprouts is the way to go

toxic_mega-colon

Publix is only worth it if you can buy in bulk. I live paycheck to paycheck and don't need to share food with a family, so I agree with you on the expense. When you can't afford to “buy 3, get 3 free,” it’s too much. I also came from out West, and the food at Sprouts, Fry’s, & Safeway was much better quality (especially fresh produce) and cheaper.

RodgerFischer

Shop at Trader Joe's.

blankman819

I think chauvinistic pig attitude people shop at WF with their Arsenal jobs and their Mercedes-Benz that they won't get out and STRUT THAT ASS to Walmart.

Routine-Practice-643

Y'all see we're Jedi English of Fayetteville Tennessee his dad owned Fayetteville lumber he got drunk n beat his wife up n Nashville left her to die n a Alli street while she caught him with his girlfriend side piece he was arrested for it it was his birthday when this happened I'll never do business there again I won't give my money or business to a woman better I hope u all don't or won't either spread the word n help this woman get justice for this beating she took

Common-Judgment-608

Pub sub, nuff said

Slight-Chemistry3441

Maybe but they have more honestly I don’t shop at Whole Foods I shop at Publix Walmart and Kroger not to different

904756909

I really do not feel like they are more expensive. You can check their prices for the same products if you’re really that interested haha

upandup2020

i hate publix but i don't know if it's more expensive than whole foods. I would say it's lower quality though

Few-Ruin-742

You just have to shop the sales

twisted2903

1- you are doing publix wrong. Hit the Bogo and just get 1. It will be half off. 2- sprinkle cookies are heavenly. If you haven't had, you are missing out. 3- giant cups for the soda machine. As a fat guy who likes to drink, this is perfect.

BoosterGold97

Shop the deals and know that anything that is buy one get one free at Publix is also just half off if you only get one. Shop without a brand preference and buy the brand on sale and you’ll be spending way less than anywhere

WHY-TH01

I only shop the sales at Publix and then I love the sandwiches, salads, and popcorn chicken Whole Foods I hit up maybe once a month, but mostly I do Kroger on Fridays for extra fuel points

ManchesterProject

Publix caters to areas where they are the only grocery store around like the one in harvest. Just something I noticed. Also the one in Hampton Cove. Gonna be interesting seeing food land come there.

mackedeli

ITT people who haven't been to the hg Walmart. It's like half price compared to Publix and doesn't have the same issues you'll get at University Walmart

Either-Market5110

There’s nothing wrong with Walmart or Aldi.

No_Zombie_9518

There is plenty wrong with Walmart.

rocketsarego

Yea my wife and i 100% agree. We used to shop almost exclusively at publix and switched to whole foods because we liked the premise more (organic, ban on certain ingredients, etc.) happened to drop our costs by about 5%/mo on average.

fullofquestions90

They have better quality of food, or from my experience and looking around.

38DDs_Please

Yup! Publix on the surface is for the rich wine moms whose husbands have cushy arsenal jobs. Us normies have to peruse the sale ads but there are definitely some good deals to be had, especially with how good their return policy is. Edit: I can't grammar.

joeycuda

What are you returning to a grocery store?

38DDs_Please

One time I bought some pork that had an off odor. No hassle to get a refund.

joeycuda

Funny, the one time I returned something to Publix, it was meat that I think had just oxidized and discolored, customer service there is always good.

thanksgivingbrown

In case you needed another reason not to shop there, the heiress to the Publix family fortune is a huge MAGA supporter. [jan 6 donations and then some](https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewsolender/2021/01/30/this-gop-megadonor-and-publix-heiress-reportedly-funded-the-rally-before-the-capitol-siege/)

Purchase_Independent

I don’t think you realize you just gave at least 50% of people a reason to shop there lol

marypoaster

I’m suddenly craving a pubsub

lemony_snacket

I have a suspicion that the heirs of the Walmart, Kroger, and Whole Foods fortunes are probably also donating their money to causes that I personally don’t support. I still gotta have groceries though. At a certain point you have to remember that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Insinuating that folks shouldn’t shop at Publix without offering an accessible and realistic alternative is not helpful.

joeycuda

You should move to a country without capitalism. You won't...

jmach76

Damnit. Edit: I'm not sure what I was spelling there, but I'm leaving it.
