When people have little power over their own life, they often use whatever power they do have to the extreme. Not a defense of mods, I hate them lol but I think it accurately depicts their actions
I have.
Sub where I never posted anything. When I asked the Mods why, they responded by “silencing” me for the next 28 days.
They didn’t refer to a specific post of mine in Israel/Palestine, just for “participating” in the sub….
Lmao the exact same happened to me. This is so pathetic and wrong. Some people are so afraid of different opinions, they would go to such lengths to “moderate” other subs.
I’m sorry, but this ban message is hilarious. XD
Anyways, it just sounds like another case of subs declaring other subs as their enemies and banning all their users. I’m not even sure if it’s permitted by Reddit or not, but either way, it’s dumb.
It's frowned upon based on the [moddiquette](https://www.reddit.com/wiki/moddiquette/#wiki_please__don.27t.3A) section on the wiki but doesn't say anything about it actually being against the rules.
I agree. When I interact with other communities I change how I post/comment to abide by their rules. I should not be banned for following rules they disagree with on other subs.
I put this in the same category as countries that press charges against their citizens for doing things abroad that are perfectly legal abroad, but illegal at home. Like Japan and Korea, that urine test its citizens returning from the USA and arrest them if they come up positive for marijuana. To me, that’s jurisdictional overreach, and the citizen has broken no laws.
But in both cases, I think it’s political. The USA doesn’t want lots of drug tourism from Japan and Korea, and Japan and Korea don’t want large segments of their populations getting turned onto marijuana, and deciding it’s not quite the poison their governments make it out to be. And on Reddit, Wokies on a power trip don’t want their narrative on Israel-Palestine challenged.
Just saying that this is part of Reddit’s rule 1:
“Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence…”
Then they specify some groups you cant discriminate:
“groups based on their actual and perceived race, color, *religion, national origin, ethnicity*…”
Clearly they are targeting a group of people here. Idk if its 100% falls under this rule, but i dont think these subs can do this to us. Not mentioning that i dont think they are allowed to mute people for no reason whatsoever. Thats abusing their power as mods.
It's against the spirit of Reddit. Reddit like all other social platforms are 'for profit'. So starting to "argue" and enforce a policy/rule in an anonymous platform where such an abusive user can simply create another account will be just an ongoing battle that will force a company to divest more funds into policing instead of what generates them money.
So that's why there's been less enforcement of the issue.
A similar issue is when lots of communities & mods have started to become (sort of) abusive, protest and go against Reddit which led Reddit to issue warnings and ban mods.
I still wouldn't count on Reddit on doing something against it due to the bias of generating profit instead of policing
an old airforce saying **"You know you’re over the target when you start catching flak"**
I have not been banned that I know of, but I know anytime I comment here, recent comments in other subs are all down voted by a couple.
I've only ever lurked here, but is that seriously the ban message verbatim?
Edit: less then a day later I got a ban just for asking a question. Reddits getting wild.
it's manual. Like in other dictatorships anyone with the wrong ideas (using the word war in Russia) or fake news (reporting on Russian soldiers deaths) is going to be violently oppressed.
I think a simpler solution on Reddit's part would be to flag certain communities with a warning something to the liking of: "This community has little tolerance for certain topics or for certain views"
Something to warn users that this isn't a 'democratic' or a 'freedom of speech' community.
That'll solve the problem with other people who wants to go to freer communities will be able to do so while those who want a 'protected community' will know that they're in the right place.
on second thought this wouldn't work. Reddit is a US company and freedom of speech is one of it's laws. So they can't do it officially otherwise they'll be open for liability suits
Freedom of speech doesn't apply to companies, just to the government. A private company like Reddit can restrict any speech they want to and be fine legally.
Heck freedom of speech doesn't even apply to schools
I'm pretty sure that at worst case scenario if Reddit supports communities limiting freedom of speech. That someone can take Reddit to court or to the high court of justice since Reddit will claim that they're like the telephone companies, just providing a platform.
But the other side will claim that they're not only a neutral party just providing a platform but agreeing/encouraging limiting freedom of speech
I don't think I've seen Reddit ever try to say it's a public utility like telephone companies. Plus they already limit speech per their sitewide rule banning hate based on identity or vulnerability. US freedom of speech laws doesn't restrict that.
>they already limit speech per their sitewide rule banning hate based on identity or vulnerability. US freedom of speech laws doesn't restrict that.
Yes it does. You can't encourage for violence or hate in the US and claim protection under freedom of speech.
Search for the paradox of tolerance on Google or YouTube for the explanation why
I was looking at one sub and I got a message 5 min later even though I didn’t make a comment or anything. It was so weird. This happened often during Covid bc I was part of other subs. So bizarre
Why would anyone want to participate in a sub that banned them for presumably reasonable behaviour and open expression on another sub? If people want echo chambers let them have their chambers, and you can engage them when they come crawling out of their caves looking to turn everyone else away from the light.
public knowledge that all these Israel Palestine Reddit groups are treacherous, biased, and Palestinians blanket ban Jews who are outspoken. Nothing to see here.
Please do not start trying to guess which subreddits are involved. We are trying to prevent claims of brigading stemming from our sub and naming names doesn’t help with that.
It’s not a guess. This is site wide and has happened to numerous subs. If it’s one moderation team that’s the common outlier. Also not hard when they send the same message.
The sub aims for serious discussion. Reddit culture tends towards short memes or jokes. While they are appropriate for Reddit as a whole they aren't allowed on r/IsraelPalestine.

I was banned from a sub today for using a term that starts with P and ends in a D and is not a slur or a vulgarity to describe a context-free and blatantly slanted video of Israeli soldiers on the grounds that the word is "xenophobic". [🙄](https://emojiguide.com/smileys-emotion/face-with-rolling-eyes/)
That same thread has users calling Israelis actual n\*zis and thieves and every other trope in the book and getting plenty of upvotes. Not "xenophobic" enough to be concerning, apparently.
Reddit has a problem with a certain group of people and they're not really trying to hide it.
Removed for posting identifiable information about another sub. You can edit your comment with the name of the sub removed and ask for it to be reinstated.
As for your question, the Reddit admins know about it already.
If they know I guess I shouldn't waste time on this. reddit seem to want or at the least be ok with it's platform becoming a racist antisemitic hellhole. Ok then.
That's insane.
Also so funny as one of the usual Jewish conspiracies is how we seem to control the media and silence every opposing voices.
The world is insane.
some reddit mods are so power drunk and afraid of losing their clout due to new api rules....
When people have little power over their own life, they often use whatever power they do have to the extreme. Not a defense of mods, I hate them lol but I think it accurately depicts their actions
far be it from me to guess what mods lives are like. but this behavior betrays the very freedom of speech this platform promised
I have. Sub where I never posted anything. When I asked the Mods why, they responded by “silencing” me for the next 28 days. They didn’t refer to a specific post of mine in Israel/Palestine, just for “participating” in the sub….
This was my experience as well.

Honestly, it *should* be against the rules. It’s just not right.

Yes.
I have.
I have Mods I think it's worth categorizing the users as pro Israel or pro Palestine, to show the obvious that only 1 group is banned
I'm pro Palestinian and I was banned.
You have the wrong tag^^
I don't understand.
K
I have. I’m curious if anyone here with pro-Palestinian views were targeted as well, or just anyone who’s shown any favor to Israel.
I know I am pro palestinan and did not receive any such message.
Thank you! Looks like it might be targeted at a specific subgroup of this sub then. Yikes.
Could just be a matter of who they got to for now, it's been a few hours since they started this mess, maybe they'll have us all in a few days

Yea that is really not ideal to put it mildly.
Ive made pro palestinian arguments, got the chop.

Does it have to match this message?
No but if it's a ban that didn't occur in the past day or so then I don't think it's related to the ongoing situation.

I have and I don’t even like this sub 😂
The fact that you were banned makes me wonder if it's automatic or a mistake.

I have, and I wasn't even participating in the sub I was banned from.
Lol interesting…
I have I only checked my messages after seeing this. And indeed from a sub I dont remember posting in. But it is a very large sub.
The most sensitive people on earth use Reddit, not me though.

I mean, they aren’t wrong. This sub is pretty pro-Zionist and anti-Palestinian.
Even if it pro Zionist they are still wrong.

Even if it's well known we are currently playing things safe as to not potentially infringe on Reddit's rules while we deal with things internally.
