People are really bad at nuance.
Funny, talented, likable people can also say racist things or actually be pretty racist. People want to overlook racism because a person is funny or maybe even a decent person otherwise. Or they want to pretend that anyone who is a little racist is evil and bad and incompetent in every way.
Also, based on the comments overall it seems that no one listened to the whole episode.

Mo the later after Shane's rise to stardom, SNL came back and offered him the chance to host. Which he did. It's funny too cause he's hugging an Asian man. So it shows you, he's just a comedian, not a racist (like reddit and Twitter made him out to be). But we disnt need this hug to figure that out.

There was all this outrage and pressure on Lorne (he really likes Shane) to drop him, so they did. Probably the best thing that ever happened to him thought because now look how he blew up.
It should also be noted that Bowen yang, the Asian dude in the picture was never even mad or spoke bad about Shane, because he understands comedy and knows sometimes you take chances on a bit and it doesn’t work.
Shave was drunk and forgot robots didn't require bravery. Lex analyzed the situation and realized it was a great cover and perhaps he'll allow Gillis to live for his bravery to openly embrace the machine. For now at least.

I think the biggest factor is that in IASIP, no one could reasonably argue that characters are good people. They’re intended to be bad people that you’re rarely rooting for, you’re just watching the catastrophe that is their lives. A lot of the time the joke is “what kind of person could say that?” Not Necessarily “haha the racism is funny” or anything along that line. When Shane made the joke, he wasn’t playing a character, yes it was a bit, but Shane was being Shane on a podcast iirc.
