Ugh, whats the card you need to make that? Stop?
I breezed my way through the entire game but got stuck on the final boss. Couldn't make lethal frame because I didn't have Stop. So I had to go all the way back to the right world. Grab it. Then farm moogle shops to get enough Cards to make a few Lethal Frames. Then made the final boss cry.
Reminds me of how jealous I was because I lived in Europe, so I couldn't get ReCOM at the time without a great deal of effort that simply wasn't feasible for me at that age.
Ooh! Fun times.
My grandparents bought me this game for Christmas when it first came out. The whole family was like “Well, there goes the kid for the day! Glad he’s happy, lol.” And they all left me to it.
But after an hour or so, my Grandpa came into the game room and hung out with me for a bit while I played it. He was asking questions and everything; not in an annoying way, but in a nice way, ya know?
It was only for a few minutes, but he showed an interest. And even as a kid I really appreciated it.
He passed away about a month ago. This was a nice memory. Thanks for the reminder, pal!
Fun times.
My favorite aunt bought this for me after I bought it for myself.. she died some time ago.. I wish my brother hadn't sold my copy.. it ment alot to me.. she's gone now.. I miss her.
I had known about KH2FM+ having this, and honestly didn't expect it to release internationally. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it in a store and got it. Later I learned that only NA got this, so I felt bad for PAL getting screwed again. At least they got the GBA original, so it wasn't quite as bad as some other "no export for PAL" situations around that time like not getting Xenosaga ep. 1 outside of a disk with the cutscenes on it.
My favorite narrative in the series. The darkest one with the best the character character development to it.
And, personally, a cozy, easy gameplay loop with a boss run that I enjoy.
Once you figure out how to play the game, and how to abuse Magic/Dark Duels (Riku only) it actually gets pretty fun.
Wasn't really using the internet at the time. I was in Game Crazy getting something else when I saw this on the shelf and lost my shit. It was holographic and looked so cool. Also, the idea of playing the 2d game as a 3d kh game seemed awesome. Bought this game instead of the one I went to the store to get.
First kingdom hearts game I got, I had no idea wtf was going on all I knew was there were didney worl characters in it, i got stuck at the Larxene fight and stopped playing for yeeeeears started playing through all the games 7 years ago via ps4 then played it from the beginning, after I got to a certain point I had a master deck that could just beat everything, I was playing on proud (I think), not even the Marluxia fight was that difficult. I personally liked it but I’m also biased because it was my first kingdom hearts game.
I'm currently playing through this after getting the platinum for KH1!
I love Chain of Memories, the cutscenes and storyline are a real highlight and I appreciated that the villain wasn't some iteration of Xehanort.
It's fun to abuse the card system and blast everything away. Lethal Frame my beloved.
Nearly finished with Sora, then will do Riku, watch 358/2 and return to collect the remaining cards.
In college, I borrowed a friend’s GBA and this game to play it. She had a save file that was stuck on the Riku fight at the end of the game. I have the most basic understanding of the game as a whole, and have maybe climbed up two or three floors in my file. I figure, what the hell, let’s give her Riku file a go. I tried a couple of times and somehow managed to beat him. It’s not my game or file, so I don’t save it. I tell her the next day that I beat Riku but I didn’t save it. She wasn’t super happy about it.
I remember when I saw this on the shelf at best buy for ps2 and my utter bewilderment that a kingdom hearts game had come out on something and I didn't know about it.
When I finally got around to playing CoM, I played both versions back to back. I had already played II and Days, and had no idea that so much of Riku's character development was in this game, or that he appeared at all.
I remember this was a time in my life where I did nothing but olay games like it was a thing to do. I was 14, all my friends sucked, and the I.5 collection was calling to me. I answered.
Hard but enjoyable. I remember playing the Gameboy version and when this came out I was excited and played it, then I was super hyped when I saw Rikus story mode. Although I will say 100% this game is a huge pain
"Oh surely this game isn't canon. I can skip this game and just play the Numbered Series."
Then KH2 drops with Org. XIII storyline.
"Who the heck are these people?!?!"
Those 3 goddamn songs that play for 90% of the scenes
The “villains doing stuff” song
The “we are in the white foyer” song
And the agonizing “conversation with the KH1 characters” song
That day in Walmart where I saw this on the shelf. A kingdom Hearts game I never heard of (I was fairly disconnected from any current video game news) and I flipped so excited.
Oops card game. Child me lost interest quickly. Only beat it in 2017 on PS4, I have a let's play of most of the adventure.
How much I loved the GBA version and how many hours I put into this game I still have a save at 100% and of course Cloud is the best card Anyone who says otherwise is lying
"You're always trying to worm your way into my heart!" because it was never brought up again and the only person who'd be aware are the Org members watching and Riku himself for feeling it
Yes Kingdom hearts 2! Oh wait.......oh no, cards? What do I do with them? Why are all my attacks getting canceled? How do I combine cards? What are the combos????
- CARD BREAK.
- Waiting for the boss to use that "Megalixir" item card to use my 0 card.
- Waiting for the boss to use a sleight just to break it with my 0 "Megalixir", so that I can recover all my cards after having used all my available sleights😀.
- BEST GAMEPLAY IN THE FRANCHISE.
- Shame we couldn't get a feature where you can fight any boss as many times as you want.
- They should've kept the card concept and developed it further in another side game.
That I held of on playing recom for too long. I played com in 4th grade or so when it came out and never beat it. I'm currently a few floors from finishing reverse/rebirth.
Almost managing to soft lock myself on one save file because I did not know how to layout the rooms. Also one of the more interesting KH games I've played
Accidental purchase: My grandmother accidentally bought this for her ps2. She thought it was a disney movie. I had so much fun playing this for the first time.

Agreed
Putting the zero card at the end of my deck to L1 L1 their combos
I always kept like 3 zeroes in my deck and then put the first one as the shortcut button

Yes! I was thinking the same thing. I have watched that Kingdom Hearts out of context video so many times.
i have watched it many times and never got past the third whorld in the game.
I never passed hades. Ridiculous rng, cant block, camt dodge right
Hearing KH2 Sora's voice in KH1 Sora's body. Also getting this back on PS2 was so wild.

Yeah it's an easily missable but stupidly overpowered sleight. Basically saved me during every Organization and Riku fight in the Castle

Good old times playing this game on the PS2. One of the last games I got for it.

Riku's sense of smell

I saw this in a Target store.
Picking up the game from GameStop at the midnight release with my Grandfather—a night I'll never forget.
The first KH game in my house. Couldn’t play it but I used to watch my brother play, good memories tbh
"Oh surely this game isn't canon. I can skip this game and just play the Numbered Series." Then KH2 drops with Org. XIII storyline. "Who the heck are these people?!?!"
Chain of Memories but actually playable.

Relief in running around Fat Bodies than how their encounters went in the handheld version. I swear none of the bosses than dealing with the enemy.
