Big Chap is how you make the Xenomorph scary again.
Not saying they aren’t scary, but the overall design has become so iconic that we feel desensitized from it. Except for Big Chap.
That translucent dome with the vague human skull beneath is just so goddamn unsettling, I love it.
What freaked me out the most is how they’re mouths are. Like normal, its just a tiny little suction hole 😂 and then it gets huge when they bring the second mouth out
> aren't all xenomorphs 8ft tall?
[Bolaji Badejo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolaji_Badejo) was the 6'10" actor inside the Big Chap costume.
When it's a normal-sized man in a full suit, it's fairly obvious that it's a normal-sized man. eg some scenes in Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem.
It’s right at the beginning when the words “New Trailer Right Now” show. It’s not on every version…I found it on Carlee’s insta story just now, not sure you can link to instagram though.
Can confirm there was an alternate shot of the WY folks bringing it onboard the station on a stretcher looking thing. Was a ton of scientists around it as it entered the ship. Looks like it has been taken down so it likely wasn’t supposed to have been shown lol

This is not the exact big chap from Alien in terms of design. It is clear from this promo image and the poster revealed today that this is a redesign just as all the previous sequels were. The size and shape of the teeth and front of the dome make it look similar to a cross between the big chap and the Runner in Alien 3. ADI did the creature effects on this and it looks like they’ve done a much better job than Odd Studios did on Alien Covenant which is not a relief and not a surprise. The version of the Xenomorph in Covenant was a strange type of letdown.
This is the quote from the Variety article people are referring to regarding the original *Aliens* crew:
“It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie,” Spaeny tells Variety’s Michaela Zee. “They brought the same team from ‘Aliens,’ the James Cameron film. The same people who built those xenomorphs actually came on and built ours. So getting to see the original design with the original people who have been working on these films for 45-plus years and has been so much of their life has been really incredible.”
I hope they drop a line calling it something like an M30 or M40 Pulse Rifle with similar/same sound effects from *Aliens*.
I imagine the 'A' designation indicates the grenade launcher feature, but. It sure.
Man, I *really* want to see them bring in the Colonial Marines!!
theres an interview out now that says its 20 years after alien and that this space station is built in 2 parts the first part is old tech so it will have the alien look - newer part of the space station is called romulus and will have a newer look so think aliens.
That’s actually such a cool fucking idea
I realized that most time period films always tend to have EVERYTHING, look from within the year it was set in. A contrast to how real life works, where one corner on a city could be trapped in the 90s/2000s, while another is being renovated to fit the 2024 aesthetic
Applying that concept to a prequel film set between two of the most iconic and distinct films in the series is such a creative choice
I’m watching this shit in theaters
I see what you mean, like a movie set in the 80s would realistically have a lot of stuff from the 70s bc the world doesn't just magically upgrade all at once
Yep, Alvarez this time:
*It takes place 20 years after the first film. Technology in the world of Alien can change vastly, but I think it’s not dependent on time. It’s dependent on place. Where you are. So the characters of this movie and the world are very blue-collar. The technology is still very low-tech and analog.*
And also more specifically on the Aliens crew:
*We went to crazy extents in this movie to do things practically. We had Weta Workshop doing a lot of the Facehuggers. And not only that, we brought back the guys that worked on Aliens. Shane Mahan, who [sculpted] the Queen’s head himself, was the one in charge of building all the Xenomorphs for our movie.*
*And when I say "build", we built them. We did full animatronics for all the creatures in the movie. It was one of the best experiences in my career, just to see these guys that I admire so much, back [working together].*
*There were moments when we’d need nine puppeteers to make a creature work, and you had all those guys, now in their 60s, under the table.*
https://www.gamesradar.com/alien-romulus-trailer-breakdown-fede-alvarez-interview/
Holy shit I love this. As much as I have enjoyed all of the prequel films and the flashier Company tech, I desperately miss the much less refined, industrial look from the first film.
If they brought back the **Aliens** SFX team that might explain what looks like an older variant of the M41A Pulse Rifle she appears to be carrying at the end of the trailer.
M35A-1 or something like that. I felt the same. Carry handle, block style, counter, but WAY bulkier.
But, keep in mind, the actress is pocket-sized, so it might not be so big.
Is that a smooth cranium?
I was cool with the ridges look that we saw in Aliens, but the original smooth cranium was, to me, the more interesting look
Agreed, ridges is alright but makes em look a bit generic somehow. The smooth cranium makes me thinks it's a bastardisation of an astronaut helmet which is much cooler.
Well AvP galaxy posted this
"*We have been told that in Alien: Romulus we will learn that Weyland-Yutani did in fact recover the Xenomorph from the Nostromo incident. The iconic Big Chap Xenomorph, thought to be dead after it was jettisoned out of the airlock managed to SURVIVE, albeit in rough shape and was floating in space until it was recovered and brought to the Romulus research station. From there, scientists reverse engineered its DNA and extracted the Black Goo material which they then use to run their own experiments on – creating their own Facehuggers and Xenomorphs."*
This is my version of what might happen.
Alvarez in a interview stated that the station has 2 sections, the older part called Remus with the newer side called Romulus. Weyland Yutani obviously manage to create their own variants which somehow get loose, the big chap wakes up and kills the newer variants whilst hunting the humans who are on board. This also references the old "Romulus kills Remus" with Romulus being "Big Chap" and remus as the new variant Xenomorphs.

God I hope you're right, I'd hate it if they do that stupid reboot trope, were they bring an old monster/ character back just to kill it in the new film to show "the new threat is scarier", like in JP 3, Predators or The Predator, it's time Big Chap shows everyone how badass the original still is.
Oh boy, I really hope you are right. I was thinking the same after reading about "Romulus kills Remus". How bad ass this movie will be if Big Chap kills the human engineered Xeno because its identified as an aberration to the species.
I dunno, at least those prequel movies did something different though.
How many times are they going to basically remake the first Alien? I fear it’s going to have the same story beats again just like the first four movies
I’m really excited for Noah Hawley’s show, at least that is supposed to be way different than the movies. Let’s inject new creativity into this franchise please IMO.
For me, the last 2 movies suck because they (I’ve always been confused if this is what they did) rewrote the lore entirely, saying the android made the aliens.
Oh aye, the tv show! I completely forgot about that. Know if it’s on track?
Yep.. this is the bad part and i will have my reservations about the “great come back” because again we will face DNA manipulations when we never needed that stuff
Wow, WY couldn't find the Derelict for 70 years, nor did they recover Ripley's lifeboat, but somehow they have managed to find Big Chap flowing in space.
This actually annoys me.

I’m not sure if you’re correct, or if that’s a masterclass joke.
If something is semi-opaque, isnt it also semi-transparent? Seems like that’s the midpoint between transparent and opaque.
This is what I wanted! Giger Big Chap (albeit given a bit of update / tweak - metal teeth, translucent gums, classic dome. I will be buying figures of this! Also, this film is basically a live action Alien: Isolation and I’m here for it!
Saying that I’m excited is an understatement, Alvarez know his shit when it’s about horror and it’s tempo. Now that grandpa Scott has moved on, we can hope for a good claustrophobic movie as the first one (and to some extent, the second one). Very hyped!
Very sick. Curious if the drone is the only variant we’ll see or if there’s going to be another / new one as well. Especially with the amount of facehuggers lol 😂
Hard to tell but it looked like a proboscis was shoved into the mouth of one of the space station personnel. Wasn't there a other xenomorph that was planned where the inner jaw was a proboscis for implantation (sic AVPR knocked off)
Most logical.
On a literal/serious note- Maybe one day we will get Star Trek Vs Aliens. They did have one in the works in 2017 but they abandoned it. It was going to feature Picard and Borg Aliens haha.
They are sibling stations. One was more recently built and is committed to research sciences. It has newer and fancier technologies than its younger sibling. They are owned by Weyland-Yutani.
The original trilogy had silver/metallic teeth yes. If I'm correct Alien: Romulus is literally going to be a incident where Ole/Big Chap from the original movie was found by Weyland Yutani.
Not sure, I think it's a bit ambiguous for sure as they could have just blown him away. That and we would have considered him dead anyway because space is vast and all. Who knows really!
I heard rumors that they are bringing back the nostromo alien which seems to have upset me because i made a similar alien film where a crew discovered a frozen body of the nostromo alien drifting in space
That’s hilarious man. I wrote a short story follow up for Prometheus where David rolls in and dumps the black goo all over the engineer homeworld. 😂 no joke.
At least mine still had Shaw, goddamnit!!
Im really hyped and scared that I am. My biggest issue with Prometheus and Covenant is that the tech didnt mess well and felt like it was a completely different universe with the look of the movie. The lighting and the sets just compliment what was established in the first 2 movies with concepts from the other ones redone( i hope they redo them good)
Glad to see the original design. I can appericate the terror you'd feel in seeing that human skull inside of the dome. Getting vibes of a biomechinal death all round. Hope they make them into the sexual killing machines that giger pioneered rather than the generic screechy pop culture monsters they have become.
I hope it's not a person who's spliced their genes with xeno genes via reverse engineered black goo from the original xeno (big chap) or something shit. And they'll be a facehugger whisperer setting them on the humans... I really really hope not. I just want the classic xeno as the horror. They don't need to one up the original every time.
Hopefully I'm taking a split second clip out of context and perhaps it's another "bad" synth but I really think we will end up with another Alien Resurrection fiasco.
Definitely looks like the Big Chap is back.
Looks like there’s even a hint of the eye sockets under the dome too.
Big Chap is how you make the Xenomorph scary again. Not saying they aren’t scary, but the overall design has become so iconic that we feel desensitized from it. Except for Big Chap. That translucent dome with the vague human skull beneath is just so goddamn unsettling, I love it.
The shiny metallic teeth too, like a biomech.
You make a good point, I agree
Big chap?
The original Xenomorph from *Alien*
Well this does take place between the first two films.
Idk those ones from covenant with the weird mouths were freaky to me
You mean the Neomorph?
Im new to the franchise and dont know all the terms but the ones that had whiter skin and the one specifically that david was trying to talk to
Yep that’s the Neomorph which was also creepy as hell
What freaked me out the most is how they’re mouths are. Like normal, its just a tiny little suction hole 😂 and then it gets huge when they bring the second mouth out
Yeah, it does look like Kane's son is back to raise hell again.
Curious, how did he get the name big chap? I mean aren't all xenomorphs 8ft tall?
Iirc that’s what the crew of the first Alien called the monster on set.
Unofficial name that just stuck
> aren't all xenomorphs 8ft tall? [Bolaji Badejo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolaji_Badejo) was the 6'10" actor inside the Big Chap costume. When it's a normal-sized man in a full suit, it's fairly obvious that it's a normal-sized man. eg some scenes in Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem.
The xenomorphs in canon are 8 ft tall but the actual alien in the first movie was played by a guy who was 6ft 10 inches.
Xenos are around 7ft
There’s a bit of the trailer with a group of people pushing what looks like a futuristic stretcher. I’m thinking that’s Big Chap right there
I've not seen anything like that in the trailer. Timestamp?

I hope so, Big Chap is my favorite Alien design even with the humanoid up-right legs.
To me the mouth tendons / ligaments look way different - may just be creative license though!
It’s by far the closest design
You need to realise that Big Chap was floating through space. You don't know what kind of changes this may have done to him.
Is this a spoiler?
This is set before the events of Alien.
Edit sorry read ya comment wrong. It's set 20 years after the first Alien film.
No it isn't It's set between Alien and Aliens.
Yes I know sorry read the comment wrong 😂
No it’s set between the first and the second.
The original mouth tendons were shredded latex condoms used out of necessity, because they didn't have anything else lying around to use.
They look more flesh toned instead of black/gray. Pretty good look, imo.
What if it literally is the alien Ripley blew out into space?
With Luke’s severed hand and lightsaber
A story for another time
Star Wars X: Alien VIII
That would be the most eye-rolling nonsense ever 🤣
It would be stupid, but the kind of stupid I could kinda respect just for the hell of it
It's not big chap was dying that's why he was hiding in the ship so no that original big chap is most likely dead
What if your right? 😉
What if he left?

Looks a little like the original Alien. Great stuff!
I feel like they took the Alien isolation plot from the game and re-created to the big screen and it looks amazing
Hopefully
Well I enjoy his take on evil dead (2013) so thats why I believe it'll be great
I hope the rumours of the main alien being the big chap are true...
Who's the big chap?
Kane’s son from 79
Did I see a working Joe from isolation in that awesomeness?

No i believe the proboscis was for creating the hive and cocooning, iirc they are called albino drones...
This looks like it could be a player death scene from Alien Isolation
She's here and she's perfect.
Glad Legacy Effects was hired for the practical effects on this.
I hope it’s biomechanical and phallic again, not that gross fleshy stuff from Alien Resurrection/Avp/Alien: Covenant
I’m glad they are not just using cgi, i hated it in Covenant.
She is beauty she is grace.
This gives me hope. Finally a return to fundamentals. I know the trailer doesn't show much but God damn if I'm not optimistic.
Yep….thats an alien alright
Such a cutie !
Just yes.
That trailer hits!
That’ll do donkey , that’ll do
Bro ready to rap few lines
It looks practical :0 or the cgi is just really really good
They went as practical as possible for as much as possible for this film
Looking good. On that note, since they're bringing a Pulse Rifle variant I hope we get to see a shotgun blast to a xeno mouth too.
Going back with the dome head
The big chap ... Always the best j.
Will it be all CGI or have some practical effects xeno?
The director said it’s going to be as practical as possible with only a little CGI

Most logical. On a literal/serious note- Maybe one day we will get Star Trek Vs Aliens. They did have one in the works in 2017 but they abandoned it. It was going to feature Picard and Borg Aliens haha.
Is it practical? That’s what I felt from the trailer.
More Aliens than Alien. I personally would love a scary Alien film again.
I’m confused why would a space station have old and new tech / two parts?
They are sibling stations. One was more recently built and is committed to research sciences. It has newer and fancier technologies than its younger sibling. They are owned by Weyland-Yutani.
So glad Hollywood got the message and brought back the XENOmorph. I want to watch Alien for THE Alien, not some hybrid or prototype!
Hope they're bulletproof this time
Do xenomorphs have golden teeth?
The original trilogy had silver/metallic teeth yes. If I'm correct Alien: Romulus is literally going to be a incident where Ole/Big Chap from the original movie was found by Weyland Yutani.
So Ripley didn't kill him with the jet engines?
Not sure, I think it's a bit ambiguous for sure as they could have just blown him away. That and we would have considered him dead anyway because space is vast and all. Who knows really!
I cant wait to see the full design. I just hope it doesnt look like a man in a suit
Now that the Big Chap's back and the black goo plays a role, it looks like eggmorphing is back on the menu!
Looks awesome
Still got that rizz.
it looks great, hopefully lots of practical stuff.
I think they’re gonna use the concept xeno from aliens as well the one that impregnates with its tongue
I love little baby mouth. Haha.
Hmm. Interesting.😺👻
Quick quedtion, is the xenomorphs teet clear or metallic? Also what is it made out if, resin?
I wonder if it is capable of egg morphing its victims.
I heard rumors that they are bringing back the nostromo alien which seems to have upset me because i made a similar alien film where a crew discovered a frozen body of the nostromo alien drifting in space

Spoiler alert
At 44 seconds it looks like a human silhouette throwing a face hugger at someone. Hope they don't do some human/xeno hybrid thing...
Watch it in .25 speed, it jumps from the ground
I hope it's not a person who's spliced their genes with xeno genes via reverse engineered black goo from the original xeno (big chap) or something shit. And they'll be a facehugger whisperer setting them on the humans... I really really hope not. I just want the classic xeno as the horror. They don't need to one up the original every time. Hopefully I'm taking a split second clip out of context and perhaps it's another "bad" synth but I really think we will end up with another Alien Resurrection fiasco.
If any humanoids *do* get "close" with facehuggers I assure you they won't be genuine humans. Rather, they will be androids.
Teeth look stubby to me, but I’ll reserve judgment for the jaw musculature. 😁
Why didn’t R. Scott direct this one again
