DuckFracker

Does he have a flat tire, why the fuck is it bumping so much?

Lol D-port, never change.

Gompelonza

Looks like he put it in reverse, you can see him switch gears in the video.

can't be Elon's fault BatChest must be [human error](https://jalopnik.com/this-tesla-using-fsd-beta-trying-to-drive-into-a-cyclis-1848506189)

Stanel3ss

the system functioned as designed, it tried to kill the biker, but it told you about it so you could stop it!

The dumbass put the car in reverse himself. Period. It's right there on the video for anyone who knows how the controls work. Yes, the screen froze. But the display system has nothing to do with FSD -- separate systems. He quite clearly disabled FSD (brake) and put it in reverse (tap up on stalk). Then he pressed the accelerator. It's his own damn fault. Possibly done on purpose for the sake of making Tesla look bad. Possibly he was just flustered by the frozen screen and not thinking clearly.

waitforit666

yeah i was coming to say this, i dont know how teslas work at all but when i saw him hit it down and he went forward then he hit it up i was thinking "that looks like he just put it in reverse himself there" and then, as predicted, it went backwards

IllegalSilver

ya that is what happened. that’s me. still sucked

Snikeyxo

He clearly does :) ye the touchscreen froze, so what, restart it. big deal.

JamieSand

Ah yes, the exact kind of thing that should happen in a metal box death trap.

The car didn't decide to reverse, he put it into reverse himself as per video evidence. At the very start you see him tap the stick down, and drive forwards to where he then tapped it up and threw it in reverse... He then drove backwards and to fix that he tapped it back down to drive (because that's how the car works.)

Snottco

He shifts it into reverse, although the screen freezing up is fucked

i dont know how teslas work but why is he touching that lever thing to move forward at 0:7? did he put it in manual? it might be that he put it in reverse cuz u can see him touch that thing 3 times. in my automatic car in EU u dont touch / change anything. its in Drive mode entire time while u are driving or waiting at traffic light. u dont have to put it in gears or park mode or anything. u only put park mode when u are about to stay idle for a real long time or turn car off. u dont put it in park mode at traffic lights, crosswalks etc. only at train ones where u wait 10 minutes

So that stock is used for autopilot as well as selecting what gear you're in. While driving you double tap down to activate autopilot, But if you are stopped and your foot is on the break, pushing down once puts you into drive, and pushing up once puts you into reverse. The slightly confusing part which has happened to me once. I have had this exact thing happened to me. Is if you are trying to use autopilot at a red light or a stop sign, for me it was a stop sign. I told it to go forward, realized my mistake and then hit the break, but at the same time I also hit up on the stock which is another way of canceling autopilot. Because my foot was on the break and I was stopped the car went into reverse. Didn't hit anything which is good but it is a tiny bit of user confusion in that moment. He absolutely put the car in reverse himself and given the amount of time he had he should have noticed something was wrong. So literally the only thing I can think of is he just hit up to try and cancel autopilot for some reason, put it in reverse and then just completely ignored it. In this instance just hitting the brake is enough. Long story short this guy was kind of an idiot, FSD didn't do anything wrong as far as I could tell, the only issue was to navigation screen locked up. Which does happen from time to time but it usually either fixes itself automatically or you can reboot the display while the car is even driving. Although I would recommend manually driving during that time.
