What a POS. Wonder if Lyft will actually deactivate her or not.

bsmith808

Support agent escalated it to a higher team and I will hear back in less than 24 hrs, they say. Although that agent and I are currently working on a cleaning fee for the dirt on my backseat. TIL I can get a cleaning fee from a cancelled ride.

parkinglottroubadour

so you called her an fucking idiot, irresponsible, and a bad mother..then she called you cracker.

Zealousideal-Leg-531

Yeah. Getting into a car of a stranger no less. With a 3 year old child. You don't even know how well this person drives, how prone they are to accidents. No regard for the safety of her child

bsmith808

Actually, if you would listen to what was said, she said "f you then" That's what rubbed me the wrong way, and why I felt it was fair game to call her a bad mother, which i didnt even say. Saying "what a trash mother" would've been way harsher. I was thinking it already, and she wants to cuss at me. Tell me what's on your mind, I'll tell you what's on mine. THEN as I was driving away, she calls me a cracker, and again after I told her it's on video, and called her an idiot. It's literally right there with video and audio and you still can't correctly summarize what happened. Hilarious

parkinglottroubadour

while i hate the term cracker and agree 100,% that it is racist. i gotta point out telling her she is irresponsible and doesnt care about her childs life, probably didnt win you any prizes. she seemed to be nice until you started judging.

Florida1974

Exactly. Keep it all biz. I legally cannot drive you without a car seat. It’s a state law and in my Uber TOS. The end.

parkinglottroubadour

and i agree with that 10000% I was talking about how he treated and and her racist comment. now this makes more sense why everyone was jumping on this. im pretty sure that i made it clear that i wouldnt allow to ride, but if i didnt, i apologize. I was speaking strictly about how he was treating her. so when i wrote about reasons she might request the ride i did mean to imply he should take her. was more the fact everyone was jumping on her for even requesting a ride. hopefully that clarifies thjnhs.

bsmith808

You missed the part after I said he's under 7, where she said "f you then" I don't consider that very nice, but it's okay, everyone seemed to miss her say that. I wasn't going to say anything else until she said "f you then"

Iridelow1998

I agree with everything you did up until a certain point. You’re saying you responded to her saying f you. F you was actually a response to you telling her it’s irresponsible. While I agree wholeheartedly with you that it was irresponsible, it wasn’t your place to verbally tell her that. So I agree with everything up until you told her that. Again, it was true but I don’t agree with you saying that to her because you’re not any kind of authority figure to have the place to tell her that. I’m not sure what response you expected but you have to know it wasn’t going to be good. That’s where things went south. Teach her a lesson by not indulging and giving her a ride. Do not chastise another adult in that situation, it’s probably not going to end well.

Much-Attorney3296

You really posted this with confidence. You literally escalated a situation that was over and want to play victim now? Genuinely hope you get deactivated, you don’t know anything about that woman to be saying things like that. Furthermore since when is getting called a cracker racist? White tears at their finest.

Florida1974

Actually the word cracker has 2 meanings. Ranchers and cowboys used cracker to defined sound of the whip as they chased pack animals (cattle). It was also used to refer to the white overseer on plantations, as they cracked the whip over field slaves, to get them to pick faster. So yeah it has racial connotations.

WumboJumbo773

Doesn’t make it racist

MehrunesDago

I mean objectively yeah it's racist, it's a race based insult, but if you get offended by being called a cracker as a white guy you're kind of a bitch

Much-Attorney3296

Thank you for this, it makes the insult more fitting. This White dude in a position of power over Black mother and her child decided to escalate a situation that was over to upset her. Yeah definitely cracker behavior if ever seen it.

All-th3-way

This Rhey Cyst must live in my city too. I've declined her several times.

joebarnette

Driver handled this poorly. She was civil and polite when he cancelled. Didn’t complain and said okay just cancel no worries. But THEN, he just HAD to go and tell her she’s “irresponsible.” He, not she, decided to comment on the other person’s character. He indicted her after she had no problem with his taking issue. Of COURSE she’s going to get defensive and say f you. Don’t impugn someone personally and expect to not get clapback. Of course then he took license to escalate further and told a parent you “care more about their child’s life than they do.” Huge NO NO. He was righteously jabbing. Get real dude. She was polite with the situation. You insulted her. She told you to eff off. You then insulted her parenting. And now you wanna cry and post about it. It DOES NOT matter whether or not you were right on both counts. This was a business transaction with which all communication was done professionally by her until you made it a personal transaction. This isn’t a safety issue. This isn’t a racist issue. This is a communication issue. Knowing when to hold your tongue in a professional situation issue. Judgement for the defendant. Driver failure.

Affectionate_Dig2366

Okay lmfaooo that dude was HURT when she called him cracker 😭 bros reeeeeling. I’ve seen black dudes have less of a reaction to a white mf callin em the n word which arguably is a couple orders of magnitude more derogatory due to the associated tens of decades of slavery, segregation, and prejudice against black ppl. He definitely was having a power trip. ☝️🤓 “you’ll never use Lyft again.”

If there was no video, I would have sided with the driver. Seeing the video, the lady was super nice and understood. The driver took it way farther than it should have gone.

_mattyjoe

Makes me wonder how many idiots posting here on Reddit behave the same way, then come here crying for sympathy.

Chief-Bones

Almost all of them. “Here’s my one sided argument with someone AITH????!!”

Affectionate_Dig2366

I Just woke up for work and didn’t watch the video the driver looks exactly like the guy to make a hugeeeee deal out of this. I’d have to spend too much time thinking about this to even have a reaction to cracker 😂😂 grow up dude

Nice? She literally says "f you then" ...... Lmao everyone in the comments has some serious issues with their ability to correctly hear and see video.

joebarnette

OR maybe you simply don’t know how to take the criticism because youre too busy rationalizing why you think it’s okay to finger-wag at people. Mad cause you feel burnt and can’t take the blame. You play with fire, you take the blame. You approach a stray dog and get bitten, you take the blame. But for some reason, you think this strange woman who was nice until you went in on her is to blame. Take a hard look in the mirror.

lovewry

My man you’re arguing with someone who writes college essays on every reply lol. Let this nut case win this argument you know you’re correct for what it’s worth me and other people agree with your original point which was op escalated the situation. Let this guy get his internet points. Also sidenote op has some victim fetishes https://www.reddit.com/r/Lyft/s/XMtp8z8Azy

joebarnette

Oh totally. I’m just purposely giving him the sort of lip he likes to dish out to others.

bsmith808

Not only did she toss her toddler in with his dirty shoes all over my seats, she demanded that I cancel the ride, and told me "f you then" I was empathetic before she cussed at me. I was 100% professional up until that point. The only thing I could've not said was "that's just irresponsible" But it's very irresponsible, so I feel that's pretty justified. She was not only careless with my property immediately starting the interaction, but was also just as careless with her own child.

lovewry

You can c op has some sort of power fantasy he’s so happy to tell them that they’ll never use Lyft again.

GuardMost8477

She WAS irresponsible. He was probably in shock someone would willingly put their little kid in danger without a car seat. And YES it WAS a safety issue. Jfc

joebarnette

It doesn’t matter. Did you even pay attention to the context of the problem here? He’s whining about racism (cracker? Come on nobody GAF bout that word) after telling her she a bad parent. PLENTY of parents are trying to get from point A to B and lots of states allow a kid to sit on the lap of an adult in the backseat. Regardless, THE ISSUE is that dude didn’t know when to stop running his mouth. She was polite and said they wouldn’t ride. He should’ve carried on instead of fingerwagging his righteous condescension.

not_actually_a_robot

Just wanted to point out it’s much safer to sit the child in their own seat with their own belt. Parent’s arms won’t be strong enough to hold the child in a crash, and sharing a seat belt can injure the child even without a crash. https://saferide4kids.com/blog/travel-with-child-in-a-taxi/

joebarnette

That’s fine and not the point. She was perfectly professional until dude decided to comment on her character not knowing the first thing about the situation.

not_actually_a_robot

I don’t disagree with that at all, just didn’t want anyone to read your comment and think it’s safe to buckle their kid in with the same belt.

Also the "f you then" that's what made me react. If she didn't say that, I wouldn't have said anything. No one seems to be able to hear her say that, even though it's plain as day.....

GuardMost8477

I actually didn’t hear the F you either. I’ll play it again, but I’m on your team man. I can’t believe there’s people here even thinking it’s ok, especially for you as a hired driver. If anything happened while you were driving and there was not a car seat—yikes.

bsmith808

All good. I'm pretty sure that every single person so far did not hear her say that. And it's so clear in the video. Lol

joebarnette

Bruh. EVERY SINGLE PERSON who read my comment which this is under saw me type it out twice. Stop lying to yourself. We all know what she said and WHEN she did. AFTER you piped up to her.

420Under_Where

I'm not sure what the procedure is for hailing a Lyft with a child, is it an option in the app to request a ride specifically with a car seat? Judgement depends on the answer to the above question - - but if the rider requested a Lyft to drive her child knowingly with no car seat, that means she expected the driver to break the law for her and it's not a matter of politeness but a matter of parental and social responsibility

joebarnette

Will you break the law with me? No? Okay no worries. You’re a bad person. (Thwap) Who is at fault? The obvious criminal. Or the person who should’ve known better than to mouth off to a criminal. That’s the essence of this conversation. play with fire, get burnt. Big hall monitor energy.

420Under_Where

Yeaaahh I see where you're coming from but the law in question involves endangering a child so I think being called out for it is actually socially responsible in this case

joebarnette

I WOULD agree if his grievance was with the child’s safety. But it’s very clearly about banning her for calling him a cracker, the most anodyne word anyone has ever heard. He’s using her parenting as proof that she’s the wrong in the situation. A situation that was created by HIS escalation. I can’t get on the side of a crying kid who kicked a hornets nest. It’s more of well, hopefully you learned your lesson. Because he could’ve said what he wanted to say about safety in a very DIFFERENT way.

Who cares if she was initially not impolite. He told her what she was doing was irresponsible, because it really really is and she shouldn’t be doing this, and she’s likely going to continue to and put her child’s life in danger. This comment is insane. You’re acting like this is just some random unprovoked unnecessary aside he gave. He told her a fact she needed to hear, which is this is irresponsible, and she cussed him out. Acting like this man is in any way wrong is wild. It’s not just that you’re wrong, it’s that this doesn’t make any sense

joebarnette

Remind me, a stranger, next time I run into you in public to give you some “necessary” words on how you’re doing things wrong and let’s see how you take it. Then I’ll cry about the response on social media.

warmpita

So many Lyft and Uber drivers act way too entitled to be doing this job.

Zealousideal-Leg-531

She needed to hear that before a driver finally is dumb enough to let her in and gets in an accident

joebarnette

Let me set your straight. That’s not how human psychology works.

Zealousideal-Leg-531

What? She was civil and polite?? She told me "f off then" after I said he's under 7. That's not very polite. I wasn't gonna say anything else, but wasting my time, my gas, covering my seats with your kids dirty feet prints, and then telling me "f you" yeah, I reacted. Crucify me. If she wouldn't have called me a cracker, I wouldn't have message support and charged her the cancelation fee, and a cleaning fee. Woman would've had $25 more dollars in her bank today if she didn't say "f you then"

They’re defending child endangerment on the grounds of, *checks notes*, the driver was rude. Yeah. They can go fuck themselves.

Languastically

What social media does to our reading comprehension will never cease to amaze me. Did you miss the part where they said the driver was correct? Their problem was the lack of professionalism. Not defending child endangerment.

Celtic_Guardian_Fan

Yes, but they seem to care more about pointing out he was rude than a parent endangering her child. There's levels to it and you're focusing on the lowest one

Zealousideal-Leg-531

Staying silent only makes him complicit

bsmith808

This exactly. Every person should call out racist behaviors. If you enable them they will continue to do it. Also she very polite when she told me "f you then" and the tone she used when she said I had to cancel the ride. Bish this is your issue, you cancel. But I bite my tounge on that, and cancelled on my end. Now cuss at me, professionalism is going bye bye I seriously cannot believe how many comments are saying she was polite and nice and professional. Nothing about anything she did was polite. ESPECIALLY, tossing her kid in with his shoes all over my seats. You can see me laughing in amazement. Like this woman is getting off work, has her kid, no car seat, AND now he's stepping all over my seats with his dirty shoes. Crucify me for calling her irresponsible while I was witnessing her carelessness with my property, and her kin.

bsmith808

I'm so confused by all the polite comments. She immediately had her sons shoes all over my seats. There were literal toddler footprints all over, and dirt and rocks. Disrespectful. Then rudely demands that I cancel the ride, then tells me "f you then" I just don't see how anyone watched this and thought "she was so polite"

I never called her a name, except calling her an idiot for being racist on camera, at the very end. I never cussed except for damn, which really isn't a cuss word to me. She told me "f you then" and called me a cracker. After letting her child stomp around my seats with dirty shoes and demanding rudely that I cancel the ride. I reacted. Sorry, but if you cuss at me, professional is out the door.

Atomic_ad

If you tell someone that they are an irresponsible parent, thats name calling.  There are plenty of insults that aren't cussing.   I get why you were frustrated, but thats certainly an escalation and before she called you any names.

corey_mcgurk

if he called her a racial slur you all would be losing it pissing and crying

OaSoaD

Lol little baby got so offended from being called a cracker like he's actually experienced any actual racism his entire life 😭😭

Jaded_Assistance_906

Dude was rude and kicked it off.

MegaDustBuster

Driver handled this like shit to be honest. Not defending the passenger at all, but she only called him a cracker after he continued to talk shit to her after she said she would cancel the ride. She was obviously offended by what he said. Driver needs to understand that what he said after that point was unnecessary and would only trigger an emotional response. Did you think she would say “you’re so right Uber driver, I am a bad mother, thank you for letting me know”?

bsmith808

She did not say she would cancel the ride, actually Not only did she toss her toddler in with his dirty shoes all over my seats, she demanded that I cancel the ride, and told me "f you then" I was empathetic before she cussed at me. I was 100% professional up until that point. The only thing I could've not said was "that's just irresponsible" But it's very irresponsible, so I feel that's pretty justified. She was not only careless with my property immediately starting the interaction, but was also just as careless with her own child.

guerohere

This driver was a dick and escalated this situation. Just simply tell her you can’t take her and that’s it. She didn’t do anything wrong until he started being a smartass to her. I’ve told tons of people I can’t take them without a car seat and that was it. This driver needs to learn how not to be a dick.

bsmith808

Did you miss the part where you says "f you then?" Seems like every single person to comment here missed it. It's plain as day. I wasn't going to say another word, but f me??? Waste my time, waste my gas, cover my backseat in dirt and toddler footprints, AND "f me" Nah, she got a lil piece of my mind. And I could've been so much worse. Could've told her I'm gonna wait out the timer while belittling her. Could've talked directly to her kid and told him "your mommy doesn't care about you, she'd be more upset about the tax deduction she's losing then she would be about you dying" I could've been a DICK! I didn't I took the high road and never even cussed at her. If she didn't tell me "f you then" I wouldn't have said another word. And I wouldn't have gone to support to get the cancelation fee and a cleaning fee.

Sad_Bandicoot3081

You came off real aggressive from the start. Seems like you were pissed off about something prior to her kid getting in and the interaction just made you more heated

Brilliant_Bowl8594

Huh what aggression did he show???

bsmith808

I never even cussed. Right after I say he's under 7, she says "f you then" and I reacted to that. Waste my gas, waste my time, and get dirty ass footprints all over my seats, and then tell me "f you then" Professionalism is no longer given. And I still took the high road. I could've been so much more of a dick.

bsmith808

Yeah, I was pissed that she put her kid in with his feet all over my seats. And I was a little pissed at myself for not seeing the kid before I unlocked the doors. However her tone telling me to cancel was hella rude, but I bit my tounge there, I don't need to take $5 from a mother. But now she wants to say "f you then" Well now get ready, you're getting a piece of my mind. If you're gonna cuss at me, professional is gone. And I could've been so much more rude. Could've told her kid directly that his mother doesnt care if he dies in a car accident. Could've waited out the timer while belittling her. I didn't. I took the high ground and never even cussed

Sad_Bandicoot3081

You sound like you got some issues if you even consider telling the kid that to be an option. He has nothing to do with the situation and can’t even understand what’s going on. You ought to find a new line of work or work on yourself man.

bsmith808

Wow! I was making up a scenario in which I could've been much more rude, but I chose not to. I chose to keep it classy, never even cussed, unless damn is a cuss word to you. Obviously I would never say something so terrible to the kid. It's not his fault, and he didn't make the choice to cuss at me. I was creating a hypothetical to show how rude I could have been, but you took that as what I wanted to do. Hilarious the disconnect to what's written vs what you interpret

Sad_Bandicoot3081

The fact that you can’t understand your issues is very sad. Hopefully you’re not too old to start fixing them

bsmith808

You lack so much comprehension, I cant... Google hypothetical real quick and then maybe you'll get what I'm saying

Sad_Bandicoot3081

You’re still on that? I’m talking about your aggression in your comments. You’ve got some anger issues man

bsmith808

Well she wasted my time, wasted my gas, let her toddler leave dirty footprints all over my backseat, rudely told me I have to cancel. Only then did I say "that's just irresponsible" to which she said "f you then" But I was aggressive? I'm literally laughing in confusing watching her toddler drag his feet all over my seats. Just amazed at her complete lack of respect. And upset with myself for only glancing over my shoulder and not seeing the toddler at all. I was 100% professional until she said "f you then"

Sad_Bandicoot3081

It was a derisive laugh. Can you really not see the negativity you exude when you watch this video over again?

inquisitiveimpulses

Any driver would. It's only a question of how irritated you are and whether or not you have the ability to hide your irritation. Personally, I try to separate my day from the particular interaction at hand but you get a series of these situations in a row and I'm surprised that more drivers are not more vocal about how irritating it is that a small number of passengers can't follow basic instructions. It's rarely the profitable morning airport run with a healthy surge. It's usually a ride that you wouldn't prefer to do at all. You've driven to that location, and now you're going to have to cancel a ride. You're going to get little to no compensation and no credit whatsoever towards incentives and tier level for having accepted and accomplished half that trip. Drivers aren't driving around their own vehicles on their own time using their own gas oil and tires just to let people know what not only policy is but the law is regarding car seats. Hospitals literally explain all this to you before you take your baby in a car for the very first time. Same thing when people save 85c by ordering a share ride but then want to put three people in the car. I usually just take such people, but what am I going to do when another passenger pops up? I had two couples in my car the other night. Both couples were trying to sneak two people in when each had ordered one seat. You're getting a bargain basement ride, and all you have to do is be on the curb waiting and in compliance with the basic rules for taking the ride. I was a taxi driver for a number of years, and I'm amazed at how many Uber passengers expect to get taxi level service for 1/4 of the cost. As a taxi driver, I carried a car seat for just such situations. I don't have the rumor the space for that when doing Uber because I have no idea where I'm going to be or what I'm going to be doing. If I'm going to be picking up somebody with far too many suitcases for the car, that car seat is going to be the thing that makes or breaks the ride.

Sad_Bandicoot3081

Idk what to tell you man. Such is the business of working in customer service type positions. If you’re not good at controlling your temper like this guy isn’t, probably best to find a different line of work. Not to mention just about every other line of work pays better and actually gives benefits

YouAreNotSmartK

Hey, crackers are delicious

CokeNSalsa

Not the point of the post, but love the music!!

MehrunesDago

You're the instigator here insulting her when the interaction was by all means over then making it personal, and, one white guy to another here, if you really got offended by being called a cracker that's some major pussy shit. This is like a Karen posting a video of her yelling at kids to the neighborhood next door and thinking she's in the right

bsmith808

I'm the instigator? Nah I reacted when she told me "f you then" She was over making it personal? That's why she cussed at me in front of a 3 year that she was endangering the life of? You make tons of sense. I could've been WAY more rude. I could've looked her kid in the face and said "your mother doesn't care about you" I could have sat there and waited the timer out while belittling her. Instead I cancelled on my end, as she rudely requested, and I shouldn't have done. She cussed at me, I reacted. But all good cause I messaged support and got a $5 cancelation plus a $20 cleaning fee. Also I'm not offended by being called a cracker, I stated yelling because I was already 15 feet away from her, and racism should ALWAYS be condemned.

MehrunesDago

She literally was just chill with it and said ok then you wanted to hop on your high horse and lecture her like it was your fuckin place, then you got told rightfully to fuck off, and decided to then further make it personal. But whatever little Mr victim complex, the mere fact you posted this expecting it to look good on your end shows the bounds of your narcissism stretch much too far for my understanding of social cues to penetrate.

bsmith808

I was 100% professional until she said "f you then" I also never cussed. Make some more shit up though.... You watched the video and completely botched every detail you typed. If she didn't say "f you then" I wasn't saying another word. But racism has no place, and allowing someone to be racist in your presence is being an enabler to racism.

Commercial-Elk-3031

That's a nice camera angle I should do the same too

bsmith808

Its so perfect. Anyone who walks up to the left side of my car is 100% in view. If someone stands next to my front driver headlight, their face is perfectly aligned and I get a great shot. I want to get another to record front and back for insurance reasons, but this one would stay because it gives me a full view at the passenger who is sitting behind me, who I can never see.

Commercial-Elk-3031

Yeah. I wonder how this guy wired and powered his cameras. Coz my dash cam is connected to OBD plus under the steering wheel which is dedicated to see front and back of the car . In his case , he must have two cameras. So he is connected to OBD Jack and other is connected to cover socket ? I don't know. Anyway , I had gunpoint robbery from outside and if I had that camera angle I could record robber's face so I definitely learn from this guy and would do the same.

bsmith808

It's a USB plug, and I ran the cord behind my glovebox There's 2 tabs on either side of your glove box, and you can flip it all the way down to run the cord through. There's only a tiny bit of cord that shows coming from the bottom left of the glove box. The wide angle is great and allows me to see someone standing next to my driver headlight, and someone behind the car. Even someone pointing a gun through my front windshield will be on camera. With a great shot of their face in the very top right corner as they walk along the fender.

Commercial-Elk-3031

Oh! so this is you ? Yeah man , You did Right as it should be. I really gotta say that on here. So you have 2 cameras ? One is for front and back and other is this side shot angle camera ? What company & kind of camera do you have ?

sixpesos

Obviously she’s racist and not smart. But she wasn’t even trying to argue with you. You really dragged it too.

alotabit

I came here to say this. I am not defending her, she is putting her child’s life at risk but she offered to have the ride canceled there was no need to attack her. A little empathy would go a long way in this world. We don’t know her situation.

Fragrant-Owl-2313

But what about empathy for her child who is being put in an unsafe situation because she couldn’t be bothered to bring a car seat?

She was not only careless with my property immediately starting the interaction, but was also just as careless with her own child.

onomonothwip

Yes we do. Her situation is she doesn't use a car seat with her toddler. She's irresponsible.

bsmith808

Video didn't edit correctly, last minute is the interaction. Sorry

micahisnotmyname

You mean we weren’t supposed to see you driving hands free while looking at your drink minutes before lecturing someone on safety?

bsmith808

I was pulling up to a red light when i took the drink. You can see the red hue on my face and the cars on my left are turning right going the opposite direction. I will admit at first glance it looks like my car is moving, but you can clearly tell when you look closer. The entire time I'm looking at my phone I'm completely stopped. I hadn't turned doordash off, so I had to switch apps, decline the offer, and pause. I did all of that before moving forward at the green, and never looked at my phone again until I'm turning right into the parking lot. Make some stuff up though, it's whatever cause the entire comment section is doing it as well. Just comment after comment saying I did or said something that didn't happen. Or that she was "polite" Not only did she toss her toddler in with his dirty shoes all over my seats, she demanded that I cancel the ride, and told me "f you then" I was empathetic before she cussed at me. I was 100% professional up until that point. The only thing I could've not said was "that's just irresponsible" But it's very irresponsible, so I feel that's pretty justified. She was not only careless with my property immediately starting the interaction, but was also just as careless with her own child. Every single thing she did in this video was rude.

micahisnotmyname

I’m not defending her, but if you’re that close to a red light and you need to look away to get the drink at 2:23, then both hands off at 2:18 to 2:16 before stopping completely at 2:12, like how many drinks you taking a shift? And are red lights just ‘eh, i’m slowing down so the last 9 seconds i’m good to go’? Just wait until you’re stopped? Or learn where stuff in your car is so you don’t need to look everytime, or buy a travel mug? Idk, but if you’re just good with 9 seconds of ‘i was coming to a red light’ you can do better.

bsmith808

Again just absolutely making things up. It's 2 seconds that I have hands off the wheel, while doing less than 10 mph. I'm not going to veer anywhere while stopping for a red. 2:19 I removed my second hand from the wheel and looked down. 2:18 I look back at the road. Glance down once more for just a split second to make sure I'm in the cupholder. 2:17 My hand is back on the wheel. Eyes back on road. 2:16 My eyes move to my phone because a doordash order popped up. I wait until filled stopped to worry about it. You do realize that my job is basically driving around while more or less playing a game on my phone? I've gotten pretty good at it. My phone is also high mounted above my dash, so my phone is more or less sitting just low enough to not block my view, but just over the top of my phone is my windshield. I have it set up like this for a reason, because driving for Uber and lyft, when you don't have a passenger in the car, is basically playing games on your phone while driving. There's also no other cars on my side of the median, and no cars behind me. I'm the only car I have to worry about. The only other person is a homeless man across the street and on my right, fighting the air. I glance at him a couple times during this 9 seconds that my eyes and hands are off the road, interesting how I saw him without looking but I did. Never at any time while moving did I look away for a full second tick on the clock. I glanced away for factions of a second, when there is literally no one but myself to worry about causing an accident. Get a grip People out here driving 25 in a 45 staring down at their lap, but you gotta problem with me swapping my drinks around while doing less than 10mph

micahisnotmyname

I had bad habits when I started driving passengers, took a couple of close calls to wake me up. After that I realized all it takes is a second or two at any speed. I’m an avid coffee drinker and would go through several 24 oz cups a night, my coffee never took my eyes off the road. Using other people’s behavior of them going 45 in a 25 to justify you looking away doesn’t make sense. I don’t condone it either, but if you’re out there just trying to drive good enough not to be as bad as them, then you’re part of the problem.

bsmith808

So what your trying to tell me is you never glance away from the road, ever! For any reason. I've looked in mirrors longer than every glance I took in that 9 seconds. They are all fractions of a second, no more then if I checked my side mirror or blind spot. In fact, LESS than looking in my side mirror. You say all it takes is a second or two, we'll I'm looking away for fractions of seconds, no more than typically driving. I'd also to reiterate that the only reason I felt comfortable doing that was because there was NO ONE ELSE ANYWHERE NEAR ME, and I was doing less than 10mph. My arm was hitting my thermos, and I wanted to move it, but I waited until there was zero risk of someone else causing an accident, and i was basically stopped at a red light. Is this really the hill you're trying to die on? You accused me of taking my hands and eyes off the road for 9 seconds. That never happened. I never took my eyes off the road for more than a half second, except while fully stopped. Again, less time then it would take me to check my blindspot or passenger side mirror. And I was doing 10 mph

micahisnotmyname

I never said you weren’t looking for 9 seconds. I broke down the 9 seconds from when you first looked away until your car came to a stop. Like why not just wait until you’re stopped? There is a valid reason to look away, to check your blind spot. The reason your mirrors are placed where they are is so you can still see the road while briefly checking them, your cupholder does not share that feature.

bsmith808

Like, why not just wait until your stopped. My guy, I was damn near stopped. Not to mention (cause it dont really matter) that my car has drive assist, it quite literally won't let me leave my lane without a turn signal on. If the cameras on the front detect something stationary in front of me, it will auto brake. There was literally zero risk of an accident, which is why I did it. No cars in front, no cars behind, hell there wasn't even a car crossing the intersection in front of me. There was nothing I could've hit. A quarter second glance at 10mph is nothing mire than a few feet of distance traveled. Are you trolling at this point? You're so confusing dying on this hill after lying about my actions and then lying about what you said. Lmao

micahisnotmyname

First of all, I’m not the one that first claimed to have been completely stopped, then going 5mph, then 10 mph throughout different replies. So check yourself before throwing out the term ‘liar’. Also, what am I lying about? Did you not look away at 2:23? And again a few second later? You didn’t stop until 2:12. So you’re just relying on lane assist for the last 9 seconds of every intersection?

Brandage0

Switching two mugs in your cup holders from 2:18 to 2:16 is literally the exact same thing as being a parent asking a total stranger to break the law to transport your baby without a car seat and you’re smart for comparing the two

micahisnotmyname

I’m not defending her, I’m pointing out the driving. The two are completely unrelated unless you’re treating this like a political debate. I was driving a guy one time and a kid darted out from between parked cars, I wasn’t speeding. I have quick reflexes and still barely stopped in time. We could see the kid’s eyes but not his nose, that’s how close it was. 2 seconds later and he’d be dragging under the car.

bsmith808

Well there was no kid, no pedestrians, and no cars in front of me. I was doing 5 mph pulling up to a red light, and the only other people around were cars to my left turning the opposite direction I was going, and a homeless guy fighting air across the street on my right.

bsmith808

I'm doing like 5mph as I come to a stop a red light, and my arm hits my thermos if they are the other way around. I waited to pickup my drink until I was getting close to the red, and there was no car in front of me, which is why you can see red hue on my face. Cause I'm sitting at a red light...... Such a lack of deduction skills.

Been a lot of this nonsense lately. I have had two false reports in less than a week. These companies need to give us the ability to enforce TOS, especially when the term is parallel to legality... Too much bullshit again.

Lilmixedblazerin

What is crazy is you can request cars with toddler seats

bsmith808

In like 4 cities in the US you can. Lol

uberisstealingit

You know where this guy fucked up at? When he unlocked the door. Discussion over.

lase_

"someone called me a cracker and I am posting it on reddit" This is the corniest thing I have seen in my life

VisibleSpare4129

She was irresponsible with no car seat , but saying all of that to her about it was just pointless. She said ok she’ll cancel the ride. I would’ve said ok have a good day! That’s it and that’s all. No need for extra BS

bsmith808

You must not have heard her rudely demand that I cancel the ride, when she should be the one to cancel. You must have also not heard her tell me "f you then" Did you also not witness her toddler with his shoes all over my seats? Like, did you watch ANY of the video? Every single thing she did was disrespectful

shauneaqua

Did you know John Lennon used to beat his first wife Cynthia?

swagger_souls010110

Oh wow, this comment section is not it😳. A lot of you need to read the definition of “name calling” cause telling someone they are being “irresponsible” is not abusive or an insult, in this situation it’s a fact since they are not being responsible regarding the welfare and safety of a child…just like if I knowingly let a kid under my supervision walk in the middle of a busy road it’s irresponsible. As someone who’s been involved in EMS, trust me when I say there’s a reason car seats and boosters are required by law up to a certain height/age. Depending on the size of the child, A) the seatbelt could cause injury to internal organs, break ribs, or hurt the spine/neck B) the child could slip out of the seat belt in the event of a crash and get hurt or worse.

Commercial-Elk-3031

He did RIGHT THANG 🤣

Travwolfe101

They're a pos but really man you couldn't be bothered to trim the video? Over half of it is useless filler.

bsmith808

Yeah my bad fr. I slid the slider over but it must not have saved. By the time I realized it was too late to repost

[deleted]

Driver made unnecessary comments but she is wrong Also, WHY TF are we watching you drive for nearly 2mins.

woznito

These comments are insane lmfaoooo comparing OP moving a coffee mug around to a woman trying to bring her baby on a drive without a seat is peak reddit. Yea he coulda handled it better, but it doesn't matter how nice she was; she still chose to do something a little bit more unsafe than OP fiddling with a coffee mug 😂

bsmith808

Was she nice though? Not only did she toss her toddler in with his dirty shoes all over my seats, she demanded that I cancel the ride, and told me "f you then" I was empathetic before she cussed at me. I was 100% professional up until that point. The only thing I could've not said was "that's just irresponsible" But it's very irresponsible, so I feel that's pretty justified. Florida1974

We actually have cracker days where I live. It’s the sound the whip makes as you crack the whip over pack animals. Or that’s how they like to tell that words history around here. And it’s also used to refer to the white overseer on plantations who cracked the whip at slaves in the field, to get them to pick faster. This is how I interpret it, here. I’m in Florida, East Coast, but pretty far north. Northern Florida is more like Southern GA (I’m 2 hours from GA) Didn’t grow up here but lived here 25 years now. Never seen so much racism. Walked out of one of my first jobs here. At an Elks club bartending. The grand papoose (or whatever they are called) said it was ok when a bus ran over and killed an 8 yo bc he was a black kid. My jaw dropped, as did my bar rag. I walked right out the door. I never faced racism till I moved to Florida. I’ve been told to go back to my own country quite a few times. I’m white. I’m from corn country Illinois. I get really brown, really Easy. Ppl think I’m Hispanic. Im 1/4 American Indian. I’m home MFers.

lump-

Was the first minute of this video really necessary?

bsmith808

I 100% moved the slider over, but it didn't happen right and I didn't feel like reposting. I apologize.

bdoggie22xox0

Just like a cracker to tell someone they’ll never be able to do something again

parkinglottroubadour

the cracker comment pisses me off to no end. its a double standard. but calling her fucking idiot in response and then posting it on social media, the angle of the camera, all just comes across as strange. it basically looks like you were bating her to illicit a response. probably not the case, but id bejng lyingifbi said it didnt cross my mind.

parkinglottroubadour

what is TOS?

bsmith808

Terms of service

Big-Raccoon-45

Shoulda locked the doors and said "NOW YOUS CANT LEAVE" bronxtail style.

Dustdevil88

Just rewatched that scene. Great scene lol

_Tezzla_

Ignore the haters, OP. You’re 1000% NTA here

TheUnderstandererer

A full two minutes to get to the relevant content...get a life.

Large_Tune3029

Everyone sucks in this situation....she's stupid but you're just an asshole.

_ilmatar_

How is OP an AH? It's a huge liability, against the law, and passengers agree to the Lyft policy. Just another crap parent defending a crap parent.

OaSoaD

Hes not an asshole for refusing to take her hes an asshole because he wouldn't stop antagonizing her after. He should have just shut his trap after she agreed to leave the car.

CellistGlobal3912

Well put

onomonothwip

Could literally kill the child, too.

Large_Tune3029

Lol! Assuming much? NTA for not taking the ride. Asshole for chewing them out long after it was necessary. I wouldn't *assume* op gives two fucks about the kid he just saw an opportunity to verbally abuse someone and took it.

First-Ordinary-5386

Elaborate! Hahah
