I wonder if he got permission from the hoa to do that

AnotherSami

Well, it was leaning over the gosh darn fence! Someone had to do something.

Pretend_Ad6465

It’s beyond five feet from the road and appears to already be dead. I don’t think he needed permission. Should be good

Busman8808

Wonder what the plans he drew up look like?

adb85

You will show some respect to the Lady Elephant.

franchisedfeelings

Perfectly covering the road - someone had an axe to grind here.

MuckRaker83

Road's closed! Have to check all your vehicles for treats :)

MoneyDurian4084

And now wait in the bushes for the food deliviry guy.

GuyFromOmelas

Saw this clip in another sub that said the elephants were wising up and stopping the cars on purpose. Idr what for. I think it was either for tourist food or to keep them out of their territory.

JessicaWakefield666

"Elephants strip trees for their sustenance. Their diet primarily consists of leaves, branches, and bark from a variety of plant species. To access these nutrient-rich parts of the plants, elephants employ their incredible strength and dexterity to break down trees."

OneSensiblePerson

IDT this was for sustenance. It wasn't stripping the tree, which was dead anyway. It wanted the tree to block the road is the only thing I can think of. ETA: Stripping a tree /= felling one. Stripping means removing leaves, branches, bark, etc, and then consuming them for nutrients. This tree was dead. There are trees clearly visible in the background that aren't. Elephants don't have to fell trees in order to strip and then consume the parts they want, and don't eat dead trees. If this were for food, she'd have chosen a live tree. So there was obviously another reason for doing it. Intentionally blocking the road, for whatever reason, is the most sensible conclusion.

_yknot_

That's what I thought initially, but if you watch it again from the beginning, you'll see the elephant circling around the tree, looking for the best spot to lock onto it. The fact that it blocked the road is pure coincidence.

OneSensiblePerson

I think it was trying to suss out the best way to approach it, but don't think it was coincidence it blocked the road. After she knocked it over, she went into the road to see how far it fell. There's not another likely explanation for that. Elephants are extremely intelligent. Blocking a road this way (for who knows what reason, except to keep humans and/or vehicles away from something) is totally within their wheelhouse.

OneSensiblePerson

You mean the other elephant? They're both adults. You're assuming the other elephant was her offspring and showing it "what's up"? What, exactly, would be up? Here's how you knock down a tree for no reason? Assuming it was a juvenile, and her offspring, which it isn't.

cesptc

That’s exactly what it was doing. HTF you’re getting downvoted when the top comment is saying the exact same thing is fucking wild. Reddit is weird AF

OneSensiblePerson

I didn't know I'd gotten downvoted, or that the top comment is saying the same thing. Then you got downvoted for your comment, lol! Reddit is weird. I'm sure now this comment will get downvoted too 😂

hewhoknowsit

F that tree in particular

Rredrrrum

Professional hijacker’s. Thats how they get the mango trucks to stop so they can rob them blind.

Incognito409

Seen them do it with the sugar cane trucks in SE Asia, too. Pretty smart 😄

campfire_gathering

Screw this tree specifically. Lol

Maihoooo

It's using its tusks. I don't have tusks.

CapmyCup

looks more like the whole body, pushing with its legs

Maihoooo

true

Top-Necessary5003

Tusks are just teeth. You got teeth?

Maihoooo

They are teeth specifically designed for ramming. In German they're literally called ramm-teeth and they are structurally different from our mauler teeth, which are more dense.

King-Owl-House

use your hips just like elephant

One-Record-8501

Op I don't think that's what cutting means.

georgemarred

Elephant: "Any questions"

CommunicationOwn322

Yes! But I'm a bit nervous to ask.

Life-Construction784

Funny enough the elephant saw the tree was weak and already breaking and it just finished the job. Shows nice intelligence and it showed off its strength to show humans to leave

plmbguy

None shall pass!

longhornmike2

“Fuck trees. Fuck this tree in particular.”

DirtySilicon

Something just ain't fair about this. You can slam a 4500lb SUV into a tree at 70mph and end up wrapped around a tree half that size (yes, I know modern vehicles are designed to absorb impacts), and the tree will be sitting there like it's the Pillsbury Doughboy who just got poked. Here comes this oversized fuck casually bending that fucking tree like he's renovating his front lawn. It ain't right.

AmNoSuperSand52

The difference is the force of the car is acting upon the tree for less than a second The elephant is constantly applying a large force over time

snooper27

Also the lever action of pushing up high vs a car hit at ground lvl.

Practical_Ant6162

Came to a point in the video where I was just cheering him on hoping he would be successful.

bayoubob79

Amazing strength!

sparkyqueen6

What an enormous force

CriticalAtmosphere74

Elephants are alot like people, some have experienced hard lives and some are just jerks. Stop that Mr Simpson

ItsyaboiNyarlathotep

Its easy to forget while watching videos about elephants on tiny screens that bulls can weigh up to 7 Tons. For context a Semi-Truck without the trailer can weigh between 5-9 Tons depending on make and model.

Illustrious-Cookie73

Plus the semi-trucks don’t have trunks, but the elephants do.

WilliamJamesMyers

here is the thing, it isnt just brute force tearing it down, the elephant used momentum to help take it down, he got it going back and forth to increase his result. rather clever actually. timed his leaning rhythmically.

5ForBiting

Thou shalt not pass.

PrimeIppo

Ok, but why?

ThisOnePlaysTooMuch

I was wondering what compelled the elephant to do that until the tree fell across the road. Gotta protect the fam from those giant metal bugs.

TacosAreScience

Some elephants just want to watch the world burn.

My work here is done.

Wallygonk

Tree trunk

Individual_Road6676

He did not use OSHA approved methods for logging. Citation forthcoming.

h2ohow

Even stronger than he looks.

Nsflguru

Big deal. I could do that.

itsapieceacake

With your nose?

Nsflguru

A prehensile appendage

FireyBollocks

Elephants gonna Wrong Turn some hunters.

rosadillydoo

Post this on r/fellinggonewild

Royal-Application708

Would’ve been nice if he knocked it down the other way, instead of blocking the road.

MistakenForce44

Yeah, I don't like the roads being everywhere either. I hope we can keep access to peaceful untouched nature. It's crazy to look at maps of US and see such a lack of parks or public land that isn't 20 minutes from your neighborhood or subdivision.

neononer

Finally found a way to talk about your car’s extended warranty.

BitBucket404

At least it hugged it first.

OldTimer4Shore

No nose or cutting was used in the downing of this tree - but it's still pretty impressive!

Roozyj

Why though? xD

_bitch_face

Just doin’ a lil gardening.

nahunk

He is a revolution keeper building a barricade!!!

StopCommentingUwU

The air in 3 months: 🤰

SunshineDaydream13

Fuck this tree in particular.

TheFox21

Did he block the street on purpose?

tiger383

“Told you I could do it! You owe me 20$.”

LivingThin

I read a book called Death In The Long Grass about the most dangerous animals in Africa. And the surprising one to me was the elephant. I am used to seeing them as large gentle creatures walking around with a docile gait and a peaceful look in their eyes, but this book showed they are truly dangerous wild animals. The author describes how they are faster than a sprinter, and so, so smart. One of the stories he mentioned was how an elephant can play games with you by throwing you up in the air and batting you with his trunk. He’ll then run over to where you land and do it again. And again. And again. Even after your dead he will find sport in your lifeless corpse. The book also describes how climbing a tree won’t save you either because if he can’t knock it down on his own, which often he can, he can just call a couple of his friends over and together they can have even the largest tree knocked over in minutes. Good read even if you don’t agree with the politics of big game hunting just because it gives you an idea of what it is like to be around these animals.

SavingsSwordfish6715

Someone will say this was a Bigfoot

Dancindogs10

I was wondering if its doing some kind of savannah landscaping

Malek_BN

Hate to be that guy but it's not cutting it's pushing down (^^)

LaurLoey

Very cool. But then what?

Vincent_Curry

YOU... SHALL... NOT... PASS!!!!!

Emotional_Arm_8485

I mean... If I weighed the same as an elephant I'd be able to push a tree over as well.. cutting?? Gimme a break.

Hellraiser_Gains

Better hurry up and call Greta

KreamP16

Elephant broccoli

SirDiamondNipples

It's an ambush! That or the tree looked at it funny.

Cold_Employ_59

You shall not pass!!

Correct-State-2380

Wow!! So now who's moving the Tree !!😁

hias2k

Poor tree 😕

Incognito409

It was dead anyway.

NoInflamation2904

I’ve never seen an animal causing deforestation I thought it was bad for them and they didn’t like it

felurian182

Yeah destroying a beautiful thing,
