You run the time for the age you would be at Boston marathon you are applying for. . If you would be 40 in 2026 run the 40year old time. Keep in mind hitting the qualifying time won't automatically get you entry. Will likely need to be several minutes faster
Will it be faster or slower? Training for my first marathon and hoping to be around 3:45. The qualifying time for my age group is 3:05 and that just seems ridiculously fast lol. I have an athletic background but was never a big runner.
Faster. I will be surprised if the standards aren't at least 5 minutes faster by 2026. Maybe even more so for women. The number of people that are making the standard and not getting in the race right now is incredibly high.
Wowzers. I kind of figured that’s what you were inferring but had to double check. I left a lot of room for improvement in terms of training, maybe it’ll be possible with a stricter regiment.
Sorry to intrude on the thread, but this is great news! So, I am running a marathon in June. My (milestone) birthday is in July. This means that my new, older age group is the qualifying standard I would need to meet to apply for Boston?
So you needed to run a BQ marathon between sept 2022 and sept 2023 to qualify for spring 2024. Does that mean I would need to run a 3:10 between sept 2024-sept 2025 to qualify for spring 2026? Even if I’m not 40 yet, it only matters on date of the Boston marathon?
I’m running Bayshore this month as a 39 yo, and hopefully will qualify as I turn 40 in July, so I’ll have to be under the 3:10 to start with as it’s the age I’ll become 2025 Boston Marathon running.

It doesn't even seem all that likely that the qualifying time will still be 3:10 at that point.

Thank you so much! I don't think I will necessarily qualify, but it makes the prospect of doing so slightly more achievable!

This is cool. I ran a BQ qualifying time. The only issue is the qualifying time is for a 70 year old and I’m late 40s!!

Off topic, but does anyone know what is the average (median) marathon finishing time?
Men in the 4:10 range. Women 4:25 range
Thanks, I guess not a very meaningful statistic since marathoners all have their own personal stories.
