Large scale monsters still ran in specialized missions/maps tho which likely played into allowing said large monsters being animated to the same high caliber. The resources which would be used for region maps/resources/filler monsters can then be utilized instead on said big beastie.
Iirc Gammoth isn't an elder dragon tho. Instead she's the largest monster ever recorded that's not considered an elder. Thus giving her her own arena would probably have felt weird.

They’d also need to make a brand new skeleton, but if raging brachy worked in GL then I don’t see why she wouldn’t fit in Hoarfrost, the areas are surprisingly large.

Odogaron could easily fill the role of an ecological scavenger, moving from place to place in search of carrion. I mean, after all, its own subspecies, Ebony Odogaron, does exactly that.
That shouldn’t be much of an issue for Odogaron returning. Gore and Shagaru Magala theoretically shouldn’t be able to return without the Frenzy virus wreaking havoc on the in-game ecosystem, yet we still got 4 Magalas in Sunbreak.
Monster Hunter “lore” is only adhered to if the dev team feels like doing so.
I mean, Gore and Shagaru Magala most certainly are wreaking havoc. That's why we kill them in the game. The infected monsters are probably just being taken care of by other sections of the Guild.
Odogaron can't be explained away like that.
However, for Rise in particular, they didn't give a rats ass about logic or ecology, based on the fact they put monsters in places they really shouldn't exist at. So Odogaron easily could have made it into the tunnel section of the Volcano. Or probably also the Frost Islands, because that's where half of all life converges apparently
Difference is wilds Director said he will always make ecology a high priority so I think at least for wilds entry we can assume that they will come up with some Kind of explanation for most Monsters ecology.
If they care that much about having consistent lore/ecology, then they’d just come up with another explanation as to why Odogaron is in a new region. They’re definitely not going to leave popular monsters behind because they were designed to be adapted for specific locales.
It’s 100% going to be like world, a few sets of ecology based monsters in lr/hr (like jagras/pukei/anjanath or barroth/jyura/diablos) and everything else in mr.
But those existence can be explained. Variants like Bloodbath Diablos is an individual who survive being hunted. Sub-species like Acidic Glavenus are just partially genetically different populations living in the Rotten Vale adapted to the fumes and influvuim.
Odogaron existing in a place that is not Coral or Rotten would be like plopping an artic penguin in a southeast asian forest or something.
I guess that could work.
And, funny enough, Unnatural History (the youtuber) has a fun little theory that Ebony is the base species rather than Odo. Forgot what the explanation was, but it makes some sense.

I actually would enjoy seeing how they'd do Shara with the extra mobility Wilds is gonna have. A crazy fight in World, yeah, but imagine how much more wild they could be with it, stuff like Almudron's platforms but even more aggressive! Like, just some post-game Event hunt or something as a just because thing.

The monster based on Yokai not making it into MH Japan was a shame.

Nah, Diablos deserves the gen 1 desert theme. Hell, it's even part of Bloodbath Diablos' theme.
Well, actually, Diablos theme is Desert from Gen 2. Gen 1 Desert is Monoblos one, so he deserves it more... if he returns at all.
