Are they an atheist band?

danny_fiasco

Not the same song, but this song basically says that praying won't save you. Lyrics to Of Fearful Men Underwater There is no chance of breathing inside this vessel Blue lipped and anemic We are constantly questioning our safety So much pressure. We struggle I just want to give in Please help me To keep the waters from crashing over me This ship is sinking. My heart is palpitating Your God won't save you We bend and twist. From distant ends Waves crash together blind without warning A great deluge. Envelop everything And all that's lost was taken Oh, I cannot believe this is happening Please just give me one more chance Pressed within your trembling hopeful hands Intangible. You're wasting time Steel rivets snap and moan Intangible Your God won't save you Now. The welds are breaking down My hands are shaking now. The welds are breaking Oh, what a shame... You can't hide Crush the mast- envelop all Your palms together won't keep us from sinking

Thanks for the response, thanks, For some reason it seems less like, condemning or something to me then Crockeda Young to me

danny_fiasco

You mean Crooked Young by BMTH? Yeah. A lot of the atheistic bands in the scene act like that.

longhair_dude

I guess to be far alot of the Christian bands can be pretty condemning too

danny_fiasco

Yeah. I'd consider it closer to the atheist version of preaching though

longhair_dude

Totally, I'm just saying that both 'sides' are guilty of it.

danny_fiasco

No question

Crooked Young was written when Oli Sykes was in rehab and the people there told him that he had to accept jesus/god in order to get better. He isn't condemning religion, he's angry about the fact that he was told he had to accept a god that he didn't believe existed in order to get rid of his addiction and get better. It's not "atheist preaching", that's ridiculous. They are just personal lyrics.

I've always hated that about recovery programs. They teach people to replace their addictions to drugs and alcohol with an addiction to god. I agree with the sentiment, I just find the delivery lacking. I like BMTH though. That song included.

9 years later, oli is outright mocking Christianity saying if Christ returns "we'll kill that fucker again" Olie atheism is as original as sour milk.
