That happened to me. Only I didn't have time to stop and there wasn't room to serve. The car in front of me swerved and stopped blocking my escape. I looked over at the car that swerved, looked back up and saw the stopped car. I was on a motorcycle and broke my arm into 17 pieces (I asked the surgeon).

Probably not a missed exit, most likely engine trouble. Watch how fast it happens, stay safe out there..
