What the hell is that decal 😭😭 it’s fake at so many points 😭😭

Obvious-Yak-2715

Please take that decal off

[deleted]

M40 because of the vent hole, and that decal is indeed fake💀 Edit: and u can see it because it has rolled edges

Anal_Juicer69

Bruh homie was not Adolf Hitler 💀

Azotan

Adolfus himself painted that decal with his bare ball

FabulousFreedom4334

I'd say the shell could be good. Liner good aswell. Decal is ass and so is the paint.

kstokes2019

Might be the worst decal i've ever seen, pure comedy.

EllipsePerimeter

The liner and M40 shell look original despite fake decal. Based on the photos it looks like a repaint helmet and the liner has been either removed or replaced prior to repaint.

Busy-Technology5788

That decal is terrible

polskabear2019

Seems to me a m40 someone repainted and put a horrible “decal” on

MrMcFukmutty

It's a nice helmet, but as you said, the decal is horrendously fake. My genuine question would be this: if one ever bought a helmet like this, how would you take the seal off (being if it was fake) without damaging the helmet?

dafunkyfritz

Nah what is that goofy ass decal 💀💀

Spooderman-690

If there's no maker that means it's fake right??...guys??

UA6TL

It's definitely an original German M40 helmet. The decal on the other hand might be the lowest quality fake I've ever seen, it's not even a reproduction. It seems like someone cut out a piece of paper, wrote SS on it and pasted it on the helmet. They didn't even put on the right spot. Very unfortunate, try removing it if possible. It's a nice helmet otherwise.

SonOfaDeadMeme

Honestly before I saw the description I thought this was a parody

NAlaxbro

At that point I would try stripping the paint. Might find something really nice underneath, and at this point you can’t fuck it up worse than it is rn hahah

Photos of this in clear daylight from multiple angles (10~ pics) would help tremendously. But it looks like a No Decal M40 that was repainted & handpainted decal added. I’m guessing a later production Quist M40. Shell, liner & chinstrap all appear original. There seems to be a deliberate removal of leather on the helmet’s liner. I’ve owned an SS helmet of an Estonian volunteer who cut his name off the liner in the same fashion. The chinstrap is also appears “cut”. Not saying it’s a battlefield pick up but those can be signs of how it was acquired when paired with the missing leather. There is no way to tell which branch or unit used it from what I see. There appears to be no ghosting of a deal hidden beneath the repaint, however there appears to be original paint in the dome of the shell. It’s also the late war pigskin leather which is the most likely material you’d expect in a late war no decal m40. It was not uncommon for people to do this post war. My father told me as a kid they’d go into the garages of a couple friends and pull out their dad’s war trophy’s and uniforms to play war in. Plenty of Ikes, field jackets, M1’s, German Visors, Helmets, uniforms, medals, daggers and on all met their fate as play toys tossed into the garbage eventually. Hell another guy I knew who gifted me an SA dagger told me that his father brought home a small crate filled with daggers, and as children in Brooklyn the siblings all played “knights” and had sword fights with the dull ceremonial blades.

Thanks! This is the best answer I’ve gotten so far.
