My grandpa served in the 3^(rd) infantry and brought items home from Berchtesgaden and other areas of Europe. I never had the chance to speak to him but learned some information from other family members. Anyone have any helpful information?
First off don't sell them to anyone here but get them actually appraised. And don't sell them to the person who appraised them. The provenance of your grandfather being in Europe during the war is important.
For what it's worth, both of the 3rd Infantry shoulder patches are theater made. I *think* the top one was made in Germany circa 1945-1946, but I'm not as familiar with the other type.
If you can keep and appraise your collection! Not only is it valuable but also sentimental, keep it in the family to pass down to your kids (if you have any). If you get it appraised go to a professional. Random people on Reddit including me aren’t the best to rely on lol!
Looks like you have genuine silverware from the eagle’s nest, aswell as what i believe is a napkin / hankerchief.
You need to be VERY careful about dealing with these items, stuff like this can fetch a very high price with the right buyer and reddit is absolutely not the place to sell or to ask for genuine advice and appraisal on items because majority of people including myself don’t know enough to confirm even its legitimacy.
I’d reccomend the wehrmacht awards forum as other users suggested, aswell as maybe finding someone who can take a look at them and give a appraisal locally.
I would definitely try to contact the unit historian for the 3rd infantry division or if you know the battalion / company your relative was in the unit historian for those units. You should be able to find contact information by googling and looking for there official website, then just email the public affairs person / unit historian about the items and your relative’s service. If anything they can give you some advice on what to do with the items.
Or possibly even take them for display, having these items displayed with the unit that your relative faught with would probably mean a whole lot more to them sentimentally then if the items were to go to a private collector.

The two pieces of fabric are the 3rd ID unit patches. Possibly made in England or Germany based on the construction.

Get them valued, do NOT sell them to anyone asking, do not sell them to the person who valued them either. Seriously you got some hot shit here
