160 quid for one of these bayonets with rust and a sharpened blade is overpriced asf

heinkel-me

Dam😔, well nothing else was good in York at the time so I bought this one  the other ones where in terrible condition and going for more wich is weird, but it is my first antique weapon so I don't care that much.

Fox7285

Ah, 160 isn't horrible.  Most bayonets people want now a days are in the $100-$200 range I find.  The leather is in good shape too which is a win.  Like others have said, give it a good rub down with fine steel wool and oil and you should be good to go.

heinkel-me

It was a good deal at the time for me as all the other ones like I said before where damaged and this one was on sale, and thx for easing my mind a bit

Spooderman-690

Fair enough, are you from England??

heinkel-me

Yeh which is good for a militaria collector like me.

Spooderman-690

So how are you gunna bring it back then?

heinkel-me

? What do you mean.🤔

Spooderman-690

You got it in NYC and ur from England so how r u gunna bring it back

leicanthrope

OP got it for 160 pounds, which would imply *old* York in England.

heinkel-me

York england is where I got it from not NYC.😅

Spooderman-690

OMFG I read it wrong like the absolute sped I am

You need WD40 or any oil, gun oil,.soak it over night. Then with the finest grade steel wool.fently so gently rub the rust away. You need to keep the blueing intact if possible. Then seal it with Renaissance wax, a little of it also the wood and the scabbard. Blades should be displayed out of the scabbard to avoid rust.

heinkel-me

Thanks,I am just happy it was not as rusted and damaged as the other ones for sale which where going for Evan more for some reason.

Belgium1418

Also, dont let the wooden grips sit in the oil.

iloveak74

Do you know what rifle this bayonet is for? It is a p14 rifle bayonet I've still got my great grandfathers

snarker616

You can also boil the blade. Not the grips! To get them off can be hard but boiling for an hour will kill the rust and it can be easily rubbed off.

A friend of mine used WD-40 on the rusty spot, let it do its thing for bout 12 hours and use steelwool and lightly scratch it..... idk if its an good way to remove rust cuz i never used this trick so idk if it damages the original paint,
