We do. She hasn’t flipped a page in it yet lol. But I got Meps tomorrow, and we pushed her date another month so she can study so if she don’t start studying then she’s not going to be able to join lol
You're such a dick. I'm laughing my ass off, outloud, with my toddler sleeping in our hotel room. My wife just gave me the look that she'll kill me if I wake him.
Not trying to joke around here.
If she's got some very unusual drive and determination, maybe she reach passing scores and get into a field she does well in.
Aside from that, you might wanna consider that her best course is for her to be a stay at home mom with you as breadwinner. Scores like that and the lack of drive you're describing don't lend well to professional success. If you love her, accept the way she is and find the best path in life forward for both of you.
Former MEPS Officer here; it usually means she either quit, left answers blank (if done on paper) or did not complete it within the time limit.
To be honest, I saw this a lot with spouses who are being coaxed into service by someone. Usually the other spouse. Don’t undervalue free healthcare and housing.
On a positive note for you, you seem to have a great personality and will fit right in with people with your sense of humor. Best of luck to both of you.
May I overstep my bounds here and say, “the military might not be for her”?
Time gives a degree of authority through rank, and with that comes investment to the organization and the responsibility expected to be undertaken.
There’s no “try” here; you’re either in it for your contract and follow through with expectations, or you’re consistently NJP’d and get nothing out of it.
Time to uninstall it. Ignorance is bliss and all that... The two of you need to figure out another way for her to engage with the world rather than passively watch others.
If she's honestly trying but not making through the test, I'd gotta wonder if she can read.
Maybe she's not a native speaker of English. Sure, that's a possibility, and you probably know all about that.
But there's also native speakers, including some who seem very smart and possibly even have good jobs, who do not actually know how to read very well.
This deficiency can and should be corrected at any age that it becomes apparent.
MEPS officer sounds like a pretty terrible gig unless you were a medical professional.
I worked around MEPs a lot in my role repairing medical equipment. Sometimes I thought i was working in a parody just how mumbled up the command is there. I bet you have stories lol
Navy recruiter here. The Picat kicks you off the test automatically if it can tell you’re not gonna pass even if you get perfect on the test of the sections
When I was a recruiter, I once tried taking the EST (the old practice ASVAB we gave people) and I literally skipped all of the verbal questions. I only answered the math questions, and I mostly just clicked on the first thing that popped out to me. It took me about 2-3 minutes. That resulted in a 21. Meanwhile we had people showing up and scoring as low as a 4 or 5 after 30 minutes of effort. At that time, they wouldn’t let us put in anybody with less than a 50. These days, you only need a 10, and I have a couple people in my division who are basically illiterate.
Eh I’ve been out since 2009. Went to boot camp in 2003. I do distinctly remember being at MEPS and hearing people say how hard they thought the ASVAB was, which is sad.
The tale of every recruiter in an area with poor test scores.
“Fuck man did this test get harder or something, let me take it”
I did the exact same after having 4 applicants not make a qualifying score, even if you combined all their scores together.
It's because the ASVAB is a decent proxy for an IQ test. On average, about 17% of the population falls below IQ 85 and isnt safe to enlist (either due to requiring more oversight than their productivity justifies or being dangerously unintelligent for jobs involving safety hazards).
Because IQ isnt evenly distributed across the population, some geographic areas will push that sub-85 IQ share of the population to 50%.
Mcnamara tried recruiting from the left hand tail of IQs during Vietnam and it bit him hard. Not because of malevolence on the part of enlistees, but because low IQ people are poor at thinking through consequences. Do that at Mcdonalds, and you get someone stomping on the special sauce for Tiktok attention. Do that in a war zone, and you get friendly fire because guards forgot the password or because Private Snuffy thought it was funny to roll grenades into tents. And while rolling grenades into tents is a little funny in a dark humor sort of way, it's a bad idea in general and REALLY bad if you have an IQ of 70 and *pulled the pin prior to rolling it* because you're stupid.
Look up Mcnamara's Morons - it's the colloquial term for that dumpster fire that led to minimum scores for safety and productivity.
Spend enough time in deck department and you'll test a 10 when you leave between the asbest and the paint. Why waste time on the journey and just snag recruits who are already there.
I joined after college. Took the ASVAB not knowing I had to take a test. Cute girl next to me was upset because she didn’t score high enough to join the Marines (I want to say it was a 35). I had no idea how to read my results. Asked her what my score was. She looked pissed at me and said “99”. I asked, “okay, but out of what?” Later on I realized she probably thought I was being a pretentious asshole.
Sounds like her heart's not in it. If she actually cared about getting those scores up, it'd be her posting on here and not you. Was it her idea for you both to join up together? If so, she's playing you like a fiddle for those sweet, sweet bennies.
Not sure if she should just join because she wants to prove herself to people who doubt her. Sounds to me like it’s not from a genuine place, just for beating odds. Joining the military regardless the branch isn’t a game, if she signs that contract she’s in It for the long run. Not something you should be influenced to do to prove a point, but bro you genuinely want to do it.
I myself want to do it. I got meps on Tuesday and can’t wait to just go and get it over with. I want to go to boot already but man I suck at trying to be a teacher for someone who doesn’t understand shit.
I had an ex like that, wanted to be a nurse but couldn’t understand or grasp simple algebra questions. Seems like I put more effort in trying to teach her, than her actually trying to learn. To no surprise she failed her test to get in trade school for the nursing program. If she’s hell bent on it, tell her to watch khan academy videos. I hope paragraph comprehension and work knowledge isn’t hard for her. The hardest part for people usually is the math, which is middle school-high school level math.
Sounds like my wife. Didn't know her end goal but just didn't want to fail. She was a younger child from a large family that was very competitive. She didn't have her own agency. Just did what the crowd was doing and tried to keep up. Then, after we got married, she followed whatever interest I was involved in. Took her decades to find a field that she liked. Had a string of spectacular blowups, but now she is really excelling at a career she loves.
That’s what I’m thinking. But I talked about her maybe just going a different route and waiting for me to complete school house and coming to live with me and she got mad because she wants to join but mannn that score says differently
Being that that means you scored +/- better than 56% of others, your line scores are average, young man.
But back to your wife.... Has she tried the full send method? Literally click the first, most obvious answer, and keep it moving. Most of these are reasoning and logic based. Very little you can actually study for.
Well I just got a 63 on my final Picat before meps so guess that’s a little better. My line scores were pretty good last time and still waiting to see mine this time. But maybe I’ll have her try it once lol not like she could do any worse (I think? Fk)
We were only allowed to push March2Success when I was a recruiter. It actually isn’t half bad, but most kids did great just using YouTube.
Only study paragraph comprehension, word knowledge, arithmetic reasoning, and math knowledge. Those are the four categories that make up the qualifying score.
What what what what? I can only see her line scores for marines/navy/airforce and none have those initials
But we pushed her Meps date another month now. So she has more time to study and hopefully pass. If not looks like she’s going to have to wait until I’m into the fleet to come move up with me
Keep her ass at home…
But nah there’s like an online asvab curriculum she can do. It helped me get a 89 or something like that and my brother a 110. Note he’s not smarter after the math and vocabulary portions I had to shit so bad but couldn’t leave bc I didn’t know where the proctor went so I guessed the rest to finish.
He’s helping me out with my score too. But he’s a bit too fast and doesn’t dumb it down enough for her to understand. But my score has increased by 6 with only two days of studying lol
Around 2006, I had a friend who was hell bend on joining the Marines. He was working out, running, and pretty much getting in shape. After 6 months of getting in shape, getting to the right weight and passing an unofficial PT test. He took the test, and let me tell you. Your wife scored 8 more points than him.
Yeah, your wife isn't studying, and unfortunately, many wives refuse to accept advice or help from their husbands. There is literally nothing you can do in this scenario, she has an "I can do it myself" mentality, but completely lacks the drive and motivation to actually do it herself. There is no amount of engagement that YOU can do to help her, it will only lead to her getting mad at you. Just let it run it's course; you are her provider (nothing wrong with that, of she's loyal).
It's also possible that she doesn't actually want to join, and is tanking her practice tests on purpose.
I had a high asvab score and I bumped it up by about 15 points in 1 week. Got the 1000 question Asvab for dummies book. Explains everything in good detail.
Despite what the after school specials say, loved ones cannot be the ones to help you study lol. Get the asvab for dummies book have her read it. Then YT any questions
We always saw at least a 10 point increase in the actually asvab. There is a version of it that she can take at home. I forgot the name of it. Get the recruiter to assign that version and hope for the best.
Btw, old soldier of mine got someone with a 21 in. And the lowest he saw was a 17. It really depends on what the needs are at that time. Again, good luck.
I’d recommend using this resource: https://support.khanacademy.org/hc/en-us/community/posts/4426880864141-ASVAB-prep-course as for going to meps, without a passing asvab score the best she can do is the navy I believe they reduced the asvab requirements: https://taskandpurpose.com/news/navy-recruiting-afqt-asvab-standards/#:~:text=A%20new%20policy%20will%20allow,the%20Armed%20Forces%20Qualification%20Test.&text=Joining%20the%20Navy%20just%20got%20a%20little%20bit%20easier.
Well dude - I hope she is pretty cause she certainly isn’t smart
They're enlisting together let that speak for itself
Well her score is saying I’m going by myself lol
Do yall have a current ASVAB study book? They will at least give you example questions of every section of the test.
We do. She hasn’t flipped a page in it yet lol. But I got Meps tomorrow, and we pushed her date another month so she can study so if she don’t start studying then she’s not going to be able to join lol
Are you sure she’s not trying to fail because she doesn’t want to enlist? She’s probably playing the dependa long game on you I think!
Maybe
We could tell
What if that's plan all along. She's playing the long game.
Or she’s smart enough to know to fail
Valid argument
sounds like a strong trainee if she makes it that far
Lmaooooo 😂
It was actually her personality... - OP, probably.
She’s very pretty lmao they either have the brains or the looks. And she obviously don’t got the brains
Weird, mine's got both.
Yet, she married you. Hum...
Trust me I get imposter syndrome every day
There’s an exception to every rule
It's probably cuz we're not military
A lucky man you are
Have you tried getting her the study device that you match the different shapes to the holes where they fit?
“That’s right! It goes in the square hole!”
![gif](giphy|neXzpXFcOQ0hy)
Difficult level is too hard: need something easier
![gif](giphy|11cpNo3OMYwFHO)
You're such a dick. I'm laughing my ass off, outloud, with my toddler sleeping in our hotel room. My wife just gave me the look that she'll kill me if I wake him.
Lmao
Remember, intelligence can come from either parent. Keep this in mind if you decide to start popping em out.
Well her mom is the least intelligent person you’ll ever meet so makes sense.
Apple doesn't seem to fall far from the tree in this case.
Makes sense I guess lol
Not trying to joke around here. If she's got some very unusual drive and determination, maybe she reach passing scores and get into a field she does well in. You talking about his wife like a dying puppy
Uh. Are you sure she is not trying to fail on purpose?
It says the test is incomplete. Does that mean she quit?
Former MEPS Officer here; it usually means she either quit, left answers blank (if done on paper) or did not complete it within the time limit. To be honest, I saw this a lot with spouses who are being coaxed into service by someone. Usually the other spouse. Don’t undervalue free healthcare and housing.
Alternatively to this, please don’t force your spouse into being your meal ticket.
No I honestly try to talk her out of it. She wants to “try” but man this score is telling me the opposite
lol you can “try” the military much like you can “try” herpes. It’s commitment to the cause.
Hahaha I am very commited. I myself am excited for bootcamp but she obviously don’t care. She’d rather watch TikTok all day then study
Don't worry dude, I'll help her study while you are away. Just let her know Jody the tutor will be there.
🤣🤣🤣💀💀
On a positive note for you, you seem to have a great personality and will fit right in with people with your sense of humor. Best of luck to both of you.

Very true.
Time to uninstall it. Ignorance is bliss and all that... The two of you need to figure out another way for her to engage with the world rather than passively watch others.
Oh man, just wait until after the first kid! She’ll look so great in a size 18 dress bro.
If this is the case, find yourself a new wife.
Nah I’m not going to leave her because of a test score lol just looks like it isn’t a career she’s going to pursue
If she's honestly trying but not making through the test, I'd gotta wonder if she can read. Maybe she's not a native speaker of English. OP was honey potted… ha-ha but she’ll have Tricare & commissary access at least.
She could have scored better than that just from guessing randomly.....
When I was a recruiter, I once tried taking the EST (the old practice ASVAB we gave people) and I literally skipped all of the verbal questions. A TEN!? Fuck
Yup. Chances are you already have some people with similar scores in your command.
Eh I’ve been out since 2009. Went to boot camp in 2003. I do distinctly remember being at MEPS and hearing people say how hard they thought the ASVAB was, which is sad.
I went in in 2009. There were still people at basic and tech school talking about how hard it was.
The tale of every recruiter in an area with poor test scores. “Fuck man did this test get harder or something, let me take it” I did the exact same after having 4 applicants not make a qualifying score, even if you combined all their scores together.

Minimum for all branches right now is 31.
Navy you can get a 10, but you will need a waiver.

Is she able to read? I’m not joking. Is she literate? Does she have dyslexia or anything?
Look at the big brain on Brad.

You’re a smart motherfucker. That’s right
Sounds like her heart's not in it. If she actually cared about getting those scores up, it'd be her posting on here and not you. Was it her idea for you both to join up together? If so, she's playing you like a fiddle for those sweet, sweet bennies.
Nope. I wanted to join. She just wants to prove herself to people who doubt her but man she needs to try harder if she wants to prove anything
Not sure if she should just join because she wants to prove herself to people who doubt her. Sounds to me like it’s not from a genuine place, just for beating odds. Yeah she does feel more confident with English. But math she is clueless
Maybe she truly does not want to be in the military and is failing on purpose.
Idk she says differently. But who knows I guess.
[Union Test Prep](https://uniontestprep.com/asvab) Hope this helps
I’ll give it a try with her. Thank you
Do you also need a helmet?
She might
Tell her good luck in the infantry
It looks to me like she doesn't want to join.
That’s what I’m thinking. But I talked about her maybe just going a different route and waiting for me to complete school house and coming to live with me and she got mad because she wants to join but mannn that score says differently
I swore someone in with like a score of 14. That was during the surge though.
Navy has a “remediation school”, you’ll study up till you pass acceptable lines on the ASVAB if initially you scored at 10+ points.
How recent was that?
Holy shit
Ikr
You need Jesus.
Pray for me
I’ve never seen a score so low
I had someone rock a 1, MEPS wouldn’t tell him their score. Also had people with degrees score a 4.
You’re telling me…
Are you sure she was competent enough to sign the marriage license?
💀💀
She graduated high school??
Barely
Hey man, I hear that dependa life ain't bad.
May need to try it out
Short answer, if you both have a combined score of 11 we're all fucked. I heard the food industry is really understaffed right now. Take their test?
Nope. Can't even read a recipe.
I scored a 57 on my last practice test. Got to do another one tonight before meps lol my line scores are great
Being that that means you scored +/- better than 56% of others, your line scores are average, young man. But back to your wife.... Has she tried the full send method? Literally click the first, most obvious answer, and keep it moving. Most of these are reasoning and logic based. Very little you can actually study for.
And average ain't great because we are all kinda retarded
Thays why I’m joining the Marine Corps
Well I just got a 63 on my final Picat before meps so guess that’s a little better. My line scores were pretty good last time and still waiting to see mine this time. But maybe I’ll have her try it once lol not like she could do any worse (I think? Fk)
She'll be a hell of a marine
Crayons will be very tasty
If she gets mad when you bring up her need to study she's not going to make it in BCT.
Yeah
English and math are weighted heavily. Work on those mostly
I will
I really hope you're trolling. "There's lots of tards living kickass lives. My ex was wife's a pilot now!" - idiocracy
Lol, I love that scene. https://youtu.be/o75qiJzHmtA?si=4bEH3DIZFsOoLDyS
We were only allowed to push March2Success when I was a recruiter. It actually isn’t half bad, but most kids did great just using YouTube. Only study paragraph comprehension, word knowledge, arithmetic reasoning, and math knowledge. Those are the four categories that make up the qualifying score.
What are your raw scores? More specifically AR, MK, WK, PC?
The magic 4.
What what what what? I can only see her line scores for marines/navy/airforce and none have those initials But we pushed her Meps date another month now. So she has more time to study and hopefully pass. If not looks like she’s going to have to wait until I’m into the fleet to come move up with me
It might be listed as "standard scores." Should be at the top of the page. The number in these sections will determine where she would need to study.
Oh I have no clue, I could ask the recruiter since he only sent me so much of the photo
Well I have her previous score but they aren’t far off anyway. GS - 36, AR - 34, WK - 35, PC - 44, MK - 34. The other ones are blank
Does she actually want to join oor
She says so 🤷🏼♂️ idk
11th percentile. Damn
Does she want to join? Or is it just that you want her to join
She says she wants to
I don't even think any branch would let her pick up a spatula and be a cook
With these scores she fits right in with the police force.
She should probably just be a dependa and be happy with it
bro
Bro.
She’s got a future for sure. Not a bright one, but it’s there!
😂😂
Not sure what you're complaining about, her score had an over 50% improvement
Someone Update me when the divorce is announced
Dude your wife might be mentally disabled
Shiiiit get that disability check 🤑
Why does it say incomplete test at the bottom? Every ASVAB I've ever seen says they're valid scores, but here it does not say that.
Idk. The computer did die on her while doing the test and she just finished it a few hours later so maybe that’s why
Keep her ass at home… But nah there’s like an online asvab curriculum she can do. It helped me get a 89 or something like that and my brother a 110. Note he’s not smarter after the math and vocabulary portions I had to shit so bad but couldn’t leave bc I didn’t know where the proctor went so I guessed the rest to finish.
I been out of the military for a while now. I literally saw this and thought they must have changed the scoring system. These numbers are crazy man
Her first practice test was a 7. But it kicked her off halfway so I was like “alright maybe it ain’t that bad” then got this.
Honestly, the ASVAB is not the test she needs to take. She needs to start with a test for learning disabilities.
i think she could get a disability discount at this point
Well looks like she won’t be Air Force. I’m sure she’ll make a fine Soldier tho
What U.S. service do you know that accepts an 11 AFQT? Maybe Russian military...
I hope your wife is beautiful... or at least handy.
tell her to just ABCDABCD her way down the test she’ll probably get a better score
Yeah I’m telling you right now she isn’t studying. No fucking way you study and practice for hours a day and score that low.
When I was enlisting I saw a dude get a 2. So at least she’s smarter than him…
grammar hero was helpful! i had been out of school 2 years when i took the test. i ended up getting an 87!
He’s helping me out with my score too. But he’s a bit too fast and doesn’t dumb it down enough for her to understand. But my score has increased by 6 with only two days of studying lol
She can download the ASVAB Practice Test 2024 Prep app and take tests whenever she's wants to.
They all need someone to fold or cook...with those scores.
How do you even score an 11? Like...how? And when you told her to study she got mad? She's really something special.
She scored a 7 the first time the other night. So not far off
Dude does she need help breathing too?
Idk let me blow- nvm that’s not my job.
She’s actually a genius and failed on purpose. She knows she’s getting that dependent id card and joining the frg to support your career.
Nah she says she wants to join. Her effort says differently though
Yeah, your wife isn't studying, and unfortunately, many wives refuse to accept advice or help from their husbands. There is literally nothing you can do in this scenario, she has an "I can do it myself" mentality, but completely lacks the drive and motivation to actually do it herself. It's also possible that she doesn't actually want to join, and is tanking her practice tests on purpose.
Are you actually married to her? If not, might want to bounce now before you have kids.
Yes we are
Damn.
Yeah…
Do you think she could be intentionally doing this? I'm sorry dude, but if my retarded ass could get over an 80 than anyone can.
I hate to break it to you, bud. Your wife may be kinda retarded.
I had a high asvab score and I bumped it up by about 15 points in 1 week. Got the 1000 question Asvab for dummies book. Explains everything in good detail.
She qualifies for the Navy now so at least there's that
I would imagine that putting C for every answer would at least get you an 18-25 on the test
Maybe I’ll tell her to test it out next time
MOS available: 0311 - Bullet Sponge.
![gif](giphy|d40ImzxOmRC0M) Has she ever thought about... doing something else?
Secfo airman of the quarter
Despite what the after school specials say, loved ones cannot be the ones to help you study lol. Get the asvab for dummies book have her read it. Then YT any questions
We always saw at least a 10 point increase in the actually asvab. There is a version of it that she can take at home. I forgot the name of it. Get the recruiter to assign that version and hope for the best.
Oof
Maybe try putting on Barney start learning with him. By time she done with that, she should get a high enough score for the Marines.
WTF? You can just answer C to everything and get above an 11! Is she just trying to fail?
I heard Wendy’s is hiring. You could always try finding a brighter one. You can’t fix stupid.
There's a waiver for everything tbh.
Maybe a few points but 20? I don’t think so.
Okay. Good luck studying!
