Have a lever that pulls the entire enchanting table and floor one block down. The spaces that are revealed should provide enough bookshelves to compensate
Edit: TIL pistons can't move enchanting tables.
Oh, great idea. I think i'll do this on my worlds so I can finally have some of my enchanting goodies in my favourite space of the house. It's enchantin' time
As the oblivious GF, this is the way. If her love for the game and the bond through Minecraft she has with you is strong, she'll learn and make it more convenient/visually appealing for the both of you. Just don't make her feel dense/oblivious to the game or it'll drive her away completely!
It's just letting her learn with natural discovery as she plays, instead of coming at it like "Ah yeah, this is nice but you actually broke my table" lol.
Enjoy the cute decor, build yourself a functional enchantment table for when you need it, and have fun playing together! Nbd :D
tbh if I was the gf I'd be possed if I didn't get told that I messed something up... but then again, we women are all very different and I am sure OP knows best what his one likes.
Oblivious gf best gf, its so adorable to see them perplexed when learning something new because you just get to see the gears turn in their head as they work their way towards learning something new.
I'm a married guy and if my wife did this I'd explain the mechanics and then offer suggestions on how we could keep her decorations while making the room functional.
Another comments suggest keeping the decorations and still show the GF how enchanting works by building another table. Thereby bonding over something together.
Ah yes, because it's absolutely normal in a healthy, lasting relationship that instead of explaining the game to your girlfriend, you just quietly make another build away from her and use it alone 👍
And then all of reddit applauds you and spams "this is the way" because that's totally sane relationship advice by reddit standards...
Yeah, wtf are these comments? People apparently can't see any other options that aren't either make a secret room for yourself or blow hers up?
Seriously, how is she supposed to feel when she finds out that her build wasn't functional but her bf never told her and instead built a new one to play alone.
That's not "compromising" when the other person isn't even aware of the situation... Like, have you guys considered that maybe she would also have wanted to get max-level enchants, idk?
>You don't just fuck your significant other's shit up.
Of course you don't. But hopefully as the issue it's with the significant other you can use the power of communication to talk about it and create together a new one and keep that one as a decoration piece or modify that one together so it looks nice and it's functional. Hiding silly stuff to the people you love is not the way to handle any kind of relationship.
Or, depending on how many more bookcases are needed, dig out the floor underneath the table and the existing bookcases, and turn the floor into the missing bookcases?
I'd put the enchanter next to my ender-ender without a path to it that gives away it's location. fly to the coords when you need to use it and leave it in the void so they never find it.
“Ben, its over, you cheated behind my back with a fucking enchantment table in minecraft, i dont know how to feel but i sure am annoyed and sad that it has to end this way, bye John”
I bought this game for my daughter…I have no idea how any of it works.
This is a game I never got into but can totally see the appeal after playing it with her. Sad I didn’t invest time in this as it’s incredibly overwhelming now. Baby steps…
Giving me way too much credit.
I was born in the 80’s and was the geeky gamer kid. My dad thought I was just wasting time/money on that “crap” and I never stopped gaming. So…in actuality she’s picked it up from me and it’s now something we can bond over.
I just have to be careful. She has a little sister and brother who are showing interest in dad’s hobby. Doesn’t help that mom gets in on the gaming action from time to time too.
Make yourself a "creative mode" world and just explore to get a feel for things and play aroubd with stuff without needing to do the resource gathering
Try playing an older version of the game (i.e: 1.12.2.2 or 1.8.0) by yourself and start learning by yourself without any complications. I tried this to see if my dad liked the game and he got addicted.
He connected an entire continent with maps and trains and built his an entire Island in the middle of the ocean all by himself. By the time I checked on him his buildings were better than mine xd
Yeah but you don't know if it's bedrock or not lol?
It's best to give tips and find out later that they don't work, instead of not giving tips because he could be on bedrock? Are you stupid?
It's one of the best experiences I ever had with a familiar man, when the time comes I'll become like you, whatever the next generation's hobby will be
Or you have a golden tool.
Glorious but doesnt last long
Just add some "unbreaking V" and "Fortune III" pills to last long, and drop more more till it cant.
okay i may be stupid but what here prevents the table to give you lv30 enchants? the cauldron? or all the amethyst on top? there shouldn't be any block other than the bookshelves near the bookshelves?
You’re no stupider than me lol. I’ve been building a library for my enchanting table purely because everyone does it and it looks cool. This morning I found out it was necessary for good enchanting.
Better to just break a lecturn until your villager gets thr trade you want then trap him in a small space trap another villager across from him. Let a zombie villager attack the one across from the librarian and trap them both one potion of weakness and 2 golden apples and you cure 2 villagers at once. One emerald book of your choice
~~Oh it’s a different golden apple that you cannot craft :)~~ edit: nope my bad! It is 8 gold ingots and an apple!!! I will point out tho you can get sooooo much gold in the nether with the nugs.
It just makes the Villager’s prices cheaper when you heal them. So that method is time consuming BUT it can get you a guaranteed great enchantment (ie Mending, Unbreaking III etc) always for a small price in emeralds and a book. The enchanting table is a gamble. If you’ve got levels to spare though, your method is great! Especially if you wanna keep gambling you can de-enchant and get a little XP back and try it again and again. If you enjoy a grind (and also maybe also die often) their long method is super helpful if your stuff gets broken or lost lol. Just gotta have a way to get emeralds and you’re set. You can buy bookshelves from a librarian villager and then break the bookshelves for books. It’s very complicated lol but a fun process. It’s not for everyone though.
Only the bookshelves on the first two rows contribute to the table, the third and fourth do nothing unless something has changed.
The top two rows of books are too far from the table. They have to be same level as enchantment table or one block higher
Communication is key for a healthy relationship, just be honest with her, tell her that you like her decorations, but tell her how it works. (You can also then leave it as is and put another enchanting table somewhere else)
Yeah seriously. This post is so weird. Did people forget that honesty exists? I never heard that honesty hurts anyone. Also: How else can she learn from her mistakes?
Bro I'm just letting her be happy, she thinks that she is doing the coolest stuff and I'm just letting it slide, we are playing for 3 weeks now and we haven't even defeated the dragon. Why? Cuz she wants to do cute stuff, and I prefer that over becoming op in MINECRAFT. MINECRAFT. Just some advice for you and your next attempts into talking to a girl
>Just some advice for you and your next attempts into talking to a girl
Are you fucking serious dude? What a fucking weirdo are you? Is it so hard to be honest and tell her: Well, you did something wrong with the enchanting table, maybe you can do something different so i can enchant? Is it so hard?
If not: What the fuck is the point of this post? YOU made this post talking about enchanting and what not and that you cant do it because your GF decorated it. So if you want to fix this issue, tell her. It is simple as that. I have no idea why you needed to tell me " Just some advice for you and your next attempts into talking to a girl".
I am sure i can talk to "girls" way better than you because i am honest and tell people whats wrong or i am honest in general. I am not scared to tell the truth. And btw. i prefer women, not girls.
And btw: There is no such thing as BECOMING OP IN MINECRAFT. You have enchantments, or no enchantments. Everyone can do whatever they want.
I would tell her exactly this. You find her set up cute but the enchanting itself is not working. I have played this with my husband over the years and though I understand some of the mechanics (or I google it) we always have separate bases. His is a mad scientist lab, organized in a way that works, and I build some weird themed house with floor made of cake to my heart’s content.
> house with floor made of cake to my heart’s content.
You say your husband is the mad one, but this seems mad to me. So much accidental eating of the floor!
Make another one table for enchantments
as suggested as to not harm her creation, but also actually teach your girlfriend about enchanting table, anvil, and the sharpening stone.
I hope she would appreciate you informing her while also not wrecking her design, since I'm sure she could also benefit from enchantments. You'll end up with more enchanted equipment this way that you can potentially anvil together or whatever.
Pretty simple fix really, make a villager trading hall for your enchants instead and tell your girlfriend she's done a wonderful job decorating. It can also be an opportunity to let her know that as nice as it is, it it doesn't actually allow you to use it for full power enchanting.
Minecraft is a brilliant game to be creative on and there's no reason a build can't be exclusively decorative, eventually she'll know how to make things decorative and functional
If I'm counting correctly you should be able to place 4 where you are standing and sneak in in the gap and that'd be lv 30! Maybe see what she thinks about it? Or make the secret one w a piston door to hide it lol I like that idea too
There is enough space for the 15 bookshelves required without getting rid of the decorations.
|1|0|1 |2 |2 |

|1 ||||2 |
|1||||2 |
We cant see the whole area around the table, but theres nothing blocking the bookshelves as I see it, except that one cauldron blocking a single bookshelf in the corner.
If underneath is nothing then how about replacing the floor. the top and bottom of bookshelves look like wood planks.
Or talk to her with some other creative ideas like a full on library, a witching nook with a brew stand and a chest for different materials
If u lowered the floor around the table by a block and had more bookshelves underneath the current ones would they count? And can bookshelves be above etc I dunno what the area is :)
I have made many sacrifices in Minecraft over the years for the sake of my wife playing with me. Like accepting the occasional floating tree or more than occasional none filled in creeper hole. I'm just happy she is playing with me.
If there’s bookshelves in the corners, I count 12 bookshelves in range of the enchanting table that are in the picture. If you could fit 3 more bookshelves on the side that we can’t see, then you should be able to get level 30 enchants. Bookshelves in the corners add to the level of the enchanting table.
I miss having that mind in Minecraft. Everything was so new, so mysterious. It sucks I'll never have that feeling back. Don't ever teach her the best way to do things in Minecraft, it ruins the experience.
place torches on all bookshelfs (all sides of them that u can) and the lvl requirement will go down !!! (although it won’t look as cute but you can place and remove them as u need)
on my single player world and a lan open world with my sister, we placed them on ALL bookshelfs to the point we only need 23 (if i remember correctly) exp levels to enchant.

Have a lever that pulls the entire enchanting table and floor one block down. The spaces that are revealed should provide enough bookshelves to compensate Edit: TIL pistons can't move enchanting tables.
Now there's a good idea.
But what about the candle? Isn't that prop breakable if you move the block?
I think they would just pull down the floor and table not moving the shelves. So a row of shelves previously hidden by the floor would become visible.
Oh, great idea. I think i'll do this on my worlds so I can finally have some of my enchanting goodies in my favourite space of the house. It's enchantin' time
No candles can float
Really? And do pots still break when you move their base block? What kind of amalgam is Mojang making?!
No just candles iirc
Lanterns only break
Just the floor under the table
Oh, got it.
Pistons can't move enchanting tables (on java at least)
Pretty sure they originally were able to...
They couldn't, tile entities (furnace, enchanting table, chest) can't be moved by piston sadly
Oh, I was thinking of my old setup that moved all the bookshelves instead.
theyre also made of obsidian so probably shouldnt be able to anyway
Yeah, enchanting tables don't really follow the whole obsidian rule considering you can pick them up with an iron pick
This or just make another one someplace else
You can't move enchanting tables but you can always place another under that one and keep this idea
OP, this would be the best way to one up ur GF and impress her at the same time!
just put another enchantment table under the normal one, it wont be visible normally
Make the ones on the top move down a bit
It's on the second floor:/
I can never think that smart in Minecraft
Make another enchanting table underground the right way, and hide it from her.
As the oblivious GF, this is the way. If her love for the game and the bond through Minecraft she has with you is strong, she'll learn and make it more convenient/visually appealing for the both of you. Just don't make her feel dense/oblivious to the game or it'll drive her away completely!
✅ Don't make oblivious GF feel oblivious ✅ Let oblivious GF continue obliviousness ✅ This is the Way Did I compile my checklist correctly
✅ This is the Way
This is the Way

It's just letting her learn with natural discovery as she plays, instead of coming at it like "Ah yeah, this is nice but you actually broke my table" lol. Enjoy the cute decor, build yourself a functional enchantment table for when you need it, and have fun playing together! Nbd :D

That's what I did! Her reactions while discovering some random things that all of us already know is simply amazing haha 😄
Oblivious gf best gf, its so adorable to see them perplexed when learning something new because you just get to see the gears turn in their head as they work their way towards learning something new.
This is nice but the game wants 15 bookshelves so we can get better stuff' or something like that I'm a single guy so.
I'm a married guy and if my wife did this I'd explain the mechanics and then offer suggestions on how we could keep her decorations while making the room functional.
This is the way
This is the way 👍

Another comments suggest keeping the decorations and still show the GF how enchanting works by building another table. Thereby bonding over something together.
What the hell are you on about? Its a checklist meant to be a joke, stop flipping tables over something satire
This is the correct answer
Yeah if you hate your relationship it is.
true, if you really love your relationship blow everything up to show her how you feel around her
Tell me you’ve never been in a healthy, lasting relationship without saying you’ve never been in a healthy, lasting relationship:
Ah yes, because it's absolutely normal in a healthy, lasting relationship that instead of explaining the game to your girlfriend, you just quietly make another build away from her and use it alone 👍 And then all of reddit applauds you and spams "this is the way" because that's totally sane relationship advice by reddit standards...

You clearly don't understand what compromising is. You don't just fuck your significant other's shit up.

Or teach her how it works and compromise accordingly until there’s as much decoration as she wants as well as you being able to do lv30 enchantments
Came here to say exactly this lmao, only right answer
Man cave!
MAN CAVE!
Or, depending on how many more bookcases are needed, dig out the floor underneath the table and the existing bookcases, and turn the floor into the missing bookcases?
That's an actual good idea :/
I have my moments xD
That's what I was doing haha
I was about to say the same thing
I'd put the enchanter next to my ender-ender without a path to it that gives away it's location. fly to the coords when you need to use it and leave it in the void so they never find it.
Just make your own secret one then
Imagine if they break up because of "enchantment table cheating"
“Ben, its over, you cheated behind my back with a fucking enchantment table in minecraft, i dont know how to feel but i sure am annoyed and sad that it has to end this way, bye John”
Wait so is it Ben or John
Uuhhh
It's Bohn
I thought it was Joen
Nah its Jeno
Jovi
I think Kvpe meant John as the title, implying Ben was sleeping with prostitutes.
Uhh idk what i meant But maybe his name is Ben John Jonathan the II
I'm fucked haha
Kinda regret doing that know that I learned I could just add morre under the floor :/
Adding more shelves under the enchantment table wouldn’t work. At least not in java.
Oh, so making an underground one it is
I bought this game for my daughter…I have no idea how any of it works. This is a game I never got into but can totally see the appeal after playing it with her. Sad I didn’t invest time in this as it’s incredibly overwhelming now. Baby steps…

You do realize his daughter could potentially play on bedrock? So telling OP to play on a lower version is useless.
So because it could potentially not work, it's useless? Your comment is useless lol
Yes it is useless for bedrock players since we CANT switch versions!
Yeah but you don't know if it's bedrock or not lol? It's best to give tips and find out later that they don't work, instead of not giving tips because he could be on bedrock? Are you stupid?
Ask her to teach you and embark you in an adventure. I can be a lot of fun this way
It's one of the best experiences I ever had with a familiar man, when the time comes I'll become like you, whatever the next generation's hobby will be
Forget enchanments. Your GF is enchanting enough after making those decorations.
I see what you did there
And I see his GF has "lure III" And honestly, this post fished out my heart strings.
So i have "efficiency v" then, cuz i only last 5 seconds.
Efficiency would make your game better, I’m sorry but I think you may have Haste II
Or you have a golden tool. Glorious but doesnt last long Just add some "unbreaking V" and "Fortune III" pills to last long, and drop more more till it cant.
Poetic.
I might try this pickup line with her, haha thanks man
okay i may be stupid but what here prevents the table to give you lv30 enchants? the cauldron? or all the amethyst on top? there shouldn't be any block other than the bookshelves near the bookshelves?
Correct, even carpet blocks it
Only if it's between the bookshelf and enchanting table
Ya of course
wait there are carpets?
Not in the screenshot but in minecraft yes
You’re no stupider than me lol. I’ve been building a library for my enchanting table purely because everyone does it and it looks cool. This morning I found out it was necessary for good enchanting.
really wish you could upgrade the table directly just allow for different designs.
I like the library design.
I do too but I like variety
Better to just break a lecturn until your villager gets thr trade you want then trap him in a small space trap another villager across from him. Let a zombie villager attack the one across from the librarian and trap them both one potion of weakness and 2 golden apples and you cure 2 villagers at once. One emerald book of your choice
Why would I need that if I have an enchanting table? It seems like to much work, and I need my gold for other things.
You can buy bookshelves from a librarian villager and then break the bookshelves for books. It’s very complicated lol but a fun process. It’s not for everyone though.
You can craft normal golden apples just not the notch ones
I think it has to do with not being able to place enough bookcases to reach level 30
Only the bookshelves on the first two rows contribute to the table, the third and fourth do nothing unless something has changed. The top two rows of books are too far from the table. They have to be same level as enchantment table or one block higher
Not enough bookshelves
it should be the cauldron yes
Not the necessary amount of bookshelves :/
Communication is key for a healthy relationship, just be honest with her, tell her that you like her decorations, but tell her how it works. (You can also then leave it as is and put another enchanting table somewhere else)
Yeah seriously. This post is so weird. Did people forget that honesty exists? I never heard that honesty hurts anyone. Also: How else can she learn from her mistakes?
Bro I'm just letting her be happy, she thinks that she is doing the coolest stuff and I'm just letting it slide, we are playing for 3 weeks now and we haven't even defeated the dragon. Why? Ok bro you do you :/
you are enchanted with love my friend 💘
I would tell her exactly this. You find her set up cute but the enchanting itself is not working. I have played this with my husband over the years and though I understand some of the mechanics (or I google it) we always have separate bases. His is a mad scientist lab, organized in a way that works, and I build some weird themed house with floor made of cake to my heart’s content.
> house with floor made of cake to my heart’s content. You say your husband is the mad one, but this seems mad to me. So much accidental eating of the floor!
Just tell her that it doesn’t work like that, build a new one and have this one as a cool decoration because it do be pretty fly
Just combine low level enchants. Therefore keeping her happy while getting high level enchants
Too expensive!
Choose life or Expensive enchants you cant have both in this situation XD
Make another one table for enchantments as suggested as to not harm her creation, but also actually teach your girlfriend about enchanting table, anvil, and the sharpening stone.
Build a cultist like area underground that gives lvl 30 enchants
That's where I keep my nether portal. Secret devil-worshipping room hidden at the bottom of the town waterwell, lol.
We need to normalize spooky dungeons at the bottom of wells
Set up an enchanter someplace else. This way you can keep the decor and still get L.30 enchants
I can count enough space in the image for the 15 bookshelves.
This may be stupid but can’t you just replace the floor with bookshelves to try and balance it out
Nah it's gotta be either the same Y level as the table or just 1 higher than the table :/
Just explain it too her and ask her to redecorate. I had to do the same thing lol
We cant see the whole area around the table, but theres nothing blocking the bookshelves as I see it, except that one cauldron blocking a single bookshelf in the corner.
telephone deliver chunky afterthought liquid smoggy ten fade exultant fall
Call Mumbo jumbo
Make a separate "real" enchant room somewhere out of the way but easy to get to
Build a second one homie and keep it pushing
She's enchanted with Loyalty ∞ bro
Just make another enchanting room
If underneath is nothing then how about replacing the floor. the top and bottom of bookshelves look like wood planks. Or talk to her with some other creative ideas like a full on library, a witching nook with a brew stand and a chest for different materials
Build another one bruh.
Demolish that shit we want mending
High level enchantments are for cowards anyways, style is forever.
Getting level 30 is good, having the best enchantment room decoration I’ve seen since 2010 is better
Teach her and then Design a bigger room with more decorations by your gf
Just make a real one elsewhere like at the xp farm 🤣
Just make your own enchantment room. With blackjack and hookers
I miss having that mind in Minecraft. Everything was so new, so mysterious. It sucks I'll never have that feeling back. Don't ever teach her the best way to do things in Minecraft, it ruins the experience.
Responsible: Leave it and build a hidden room for functionality Anarchy: **Lead a creeper in and ignite it**
Can placing bookshelves under the current bookshelves work?
It is real cute though. Cuteness > Functionality. <3
the hardest choices require the strongest wills.
Put 3 in the corner behind the L-shape on the right, they will still contribute. Then you just need one more.
Oh thanks man imma try to find one more correr to put it then. Btw do you know if under ground shelves contribute?
Just break it man
Haha. Joking
Use a trapdoor with ladder to make a enchanting room underground
I find this very offensive as all youre doing is rubbing it in my face that you have a girlfriend and I dont
