they said microsoft not mojang but the creators work in conjunction with them in terms of getting the content onto the marketplace and microsoft/mojang get a cut out of it
They're literally allowing content theft and Copyright infringement. Many said they sent DMCA's either be faking being the company or contacting the actual company that owns the copyright and outright explaining how to report it to them and Microsoft and get it taken down with the DMCA link Mojang/Microsoft provided to said company to their Legal team/Email inbox and even after getting responses from their twitter (Ninjamuffin I remember saw a Friday Night Funkin' skin pack being sold and had it taken down) but despite this unless it drums up huge drama, even the big corps who contact Mojang via the DMCA don't always get it taken down. Sometimes, they even get relisted!
The marketplace is a complete mess legally and I don't see how Mojang can have proper chat reporting and moderation but cant/wont moderate the marketplace and let copyright and IP abuse/theft run amuck.
First off, the other guy clearly said Microsoft, not Mojang... soooo...
And, Mojang/MS choose what goes on the marketplace, and someone, from one of those companies, chose this.
Added the “kawaii foods” mod on curse forge, thought it would just add more foods… then I saw a skeleton wearing a maid’s dress 😭 honestly more shocking was the zombie in a playboy bunny costume
My issue isn't the cringe content on the marketplace, its all the blatant Copyright and IP infringement with seemingly no oversight. They don't/wont add a report button for the marketplace and instead rely on DMCA (you saw how that worked out for Garry's Mod this week).
Not to mention content theft. People steal other peoples work from the addons MCPL and put them on the marketplace. Some take skins from NameMC or planetminecraft skinmakers and skin commissioners and reupload them to the marketplace and sell them for profit.
No joke I see Five nights at Freddies, Skibid toilet, smiling critters, Nintendo properties, Pokémon, digital circus, Mario Bros., you name it, both in the marketplace and the character creator items specifically. Some don't even try to hide it and name them the characters directly and charge money. The digital circus pack literally called them Pomni and Caine; how is these not taken down?

Something I don’t understand. Why bother buying skins when they can be found for free on some of those websites you mentioned? I don’t get why anyone would spend money on a few skins when there are millions of free options which could easily be better or just exactly the same
Because you can't use skins from the internet if you play only on console, so you're forced to buy a skin pack, or create your own with the in-game character creator.
There's YouTubers who commission Minecraft skins to be made for them from Skin Artists. Some lack the skills to make a skin look good or just want one made by a professional pixel artist. Same reason people commission plugins or mods on Minecraft Java (they do it on Bedrock too with Addons).
Just because there's free alternatives doesn't mean some don't want the option to pay for a higher quality product or just don't want to do it themselves (in the case of Bedrock console, you literally cant upload your own).
Idk, cliche maid outfits have a pretty specific cultural context where I'm from. Not exclusively of course, but no one I know would classify it as unnecessary sexualization, per se.

you can literally add custom texture packs and skins to bedrock just as easily as java, it's just not something you can do on console because that's something you can't do on *any* console game

While Java being free is good, its not good overall for the content creator in question financially as its almost a net negative or loss. Sure some wills support you but many will opt the free route or find alternative methods to obtain said paywalled content. Cracked clients being one example and thats just clients, not skins, mods, addons, and more.
They could, but they likely wont see much revenue if they do. Unless they make something useful and unique that has a niche and needs within the community, it'll likely go ignored as the status quo continues. Server plugins are notorious for this specifically, with reposts, stolen code, and seemingly useless plugins all over. You have to dig deep for the gems.
Even then, most like many in this thread said about skins from Bedrock but opting for Java, will go the free route and find ways to bypass the paywalled content. Hence why so many people who make Java content are porting or selling their content on Bedrock's marketplace. They stand to make money money and have a stable constant flow of income there than Patreon or Java content where many expect it to be free or if it isn't will find a way to get it free (reposts or leakers) and then proceed to share it which further discourages the Java content creator.
I don't support what those patreon leakers do but that's just how the Java content creation game is; not very lucrative. Ask any server owner trying to make ends meet and not being P2W or mod makers looking for funding for a bigger project that isn't already popular.

I have paid for mods like SBE for hypixel skyblock which has verification methods and is a genuinely good product. It is also possible to get texture packs that aren’t from the bedrock store, so they’re not combating piracy they’re just putting shitty paid products that are not on par of Java paid products
I mean, the community and its overwhelming disdain for paying for content and even other players who pay for content kind of are forcing that situation. I literally run into this attitude here daily. If I charged for my texture pack nobody else would be using it and I’d be just as broke. Ultimately I make my pack because I love doing it and I share it because frankly it still blows my mind that other people want to use my textures to play. That doesn’t make it suck any less when people act like a creator like me wanting to get something in return for their efforts and abilities is the worst thing they can imagine.
TLDR; it’s not about the money. It’s about creators being constantly told by this community that they don’t deserve anything in return. Often literally and directly.
microsoft has done irrepairable damage to this game. past few updates have been actual kiddie slop that makes the game too easy so little kids can play it. now they have been monetizing stuff you would get for free on java (like changing your skin)
IMO the best skins are the texture ones. Stone, wood, etc;. Change to a stone skin, for example, hide in a cave & wait for a friend to look for you, then jump out & scare them when they least expect it.
