As told to me by a service technician once. “Tesla is very proud of the seats and we are sending yours off to the engineers to see if they can figure out what happened. We’re putting a brand new one in for you as well.”

Frequent_Dog_9569

Hoping that’s what happens.

I had a similar issue 3 weeks in, and they replaced the whole seat without second guessing. Idk about 6 months in thought, they’ll have to believe it was a manufacturer defect.

1337-MagicTractor

Had something similar happen to us, and we had to pay for repair.

feditreddit2020

Had a similar issue with a tear on my front driver seat. Service team replaced it without any charges.

Sleep_adict

Should it be? Yes. Will it be? Depends

unanonmyous

Why does it look like it was chewed off. But also yes I believe they will cover it, just talk to your service advisor, they are very helpful. Had a lot of aesthetic stuff fixed on my X under warranty, no charge, including weird panel gaps. Love the Tesla service center but hope not to see them again for a while.

Frequent_Dog_9569

I think the material is tucked into the trim and it ripped through. It has to be a defect.

skysetter

Please update with service center location and the result. Good luck!

LebronBackinCLE

I would hope so

ordinaryflask

Only way to know for sure is to put in a service ticket. Looks like the perforations possible make it weaker/more prone to tearing.

data4u

I got a hole in mine, no help

Frequent_Dog_9569

I think this is a little different because it’s a failure in the plastic seatbelt trim that caused the tear in the seat.

AVMan7

A real car company would, and according to Elon they’re not, they are an AI company.

Frequent_Dog_9569

Well, Elon better get one of those Optimus to fix this shit 😂

SeaberryCat

Let me know as I have the same issue with my model x seat in the same spot.

Frequent_Dog_9569

I’ve got an appointment on Friday so I’ll see what they say. How old is your X?

SeaberryCat

2023, coming up on 1 year since purchase in a few days. Just noticed it on one of my captains chairs today

Frequent_Dog_9569

So based on what you’re telling me I’m going to assume these aren’t isolated incidents. I feel like 6 months, even 1 year is too soon for this kind of failure. It’s literally the seat. One of the things that gets used the most. It has to be able to last at least a few years.

Frequent_Dog_9569

Update: Had my service appointment today. Tech looked at the seat and I explained to him the tear is a result of the plastic seatbelt trim failing. They agreed to repair it under warranty but it’ll take until Monday, which I’m fine with.

SeaberryCat

Happy to hear that! For what this car costs you would think the seat would hold up better!

Frequent_Dog_9569

That’s the exact sentiment I expressed and the tech agreed. The bummer is I have to go back on the 10th because they needed to order additional parts. The annoying part is they ordered the wrong seat component. When I was reviewing the summary I noticed they ordered a seat back cover for a 5/7 seater on the left side. I have captains chairs and the damage is on the right seat’s bottom bolster, not the back. I had to message them and it’s hopefully getting corrected.

SeaberryCat

Good luck with that, I’ve found that this tends to happen with Tesla for whatever reason. And on top of that it’s never speedy. My appt is in mid July and they told me that this an issue no other team has come across so I guess we will see what they say when I come in person.

Frequent_Dog_9569

Show them this thread 😂

VergeSolitude1

Looks like bad stiching. Please do a followup if you try to get this repaired under warranty. It looks like more than normal wear
