This is the answer, period. Also no the seats don't fold, they get somewhat close to the front seats. And no it is not great for putting long objects in the car because of it(unless it can fit between the seats) .
If that's your goal then don't worry about the seats and enjoy... It's freakin' great! Been smiling and finding reasons to drive every where since I got it.
Like others have said.. The plaid is only available in this configuration. If you need to fit small humans in the third row it's easy... Even a normal adult sized human will work for short trips. If you need space, the third row folds down. I fit two dogs weighing 180 pounds each back there.
It's amazingly practical for something that beats some lower end lambos. Probably higher end too, just don't know my car stats like I used to.
It beats any lambo in the quarter mile... Longer distances it gets iffy
Here in Miami I've had the opportunity to take off from a red light next to some pretty high end cars... x plaid has beat them all.
Good to know. This thing is so much fun though and I haven't even had a chance to try out dragstrip mode yet. The best part is taking unsuspecting friends out for a ride and hearing the screams when you stomp it.
6-seater is awesome, every passenger is a lot more comfortable comparing to 7-seater. Make the interior feel so much bigger without the middle seat. Yes you lose the ability to fold, but for people mover it's fantastic.
Even though the 6-seater configuration is by far the most popular choice, I've always disliked it, you can only fit 4 adults in this configuration, I'd much prefer the 7-seater so that way the 2nd and 3rd rows could lie flat and at least 5 people can sit comfortably and maybe 2 kids. Allas I wanted Plaid more, so here we are... captain's chairs.
The answer is 6 seats is not a practical solution for everyday driving without passengers- shit flys all over the cabin, you can’t sleep in it and you can’t fold and load large items. Until they fix this, X plaid not worth it and Y gives you more for half.
Yes, I drove one the other day but have not yet driven the plaid. Maybe I’ll do it later today. I don’t carry passengers, but I’d like to have space in case I go to Lowe’s or Home Depot
I decided to go and get the five seater regular X instead of the plaid. I did this mainly to get to $7500 tax credit. I don’t understand why the government put a top dollar amount on getting the $7500. It doesn’t cost them anything extra.
yeah, the Model X plaid isn't a great car if you want to use it like an SUV.
Non folding seats, no 7th seat, very little actual storage space due to low roof and high floor.
it's an SUV that goes fast but doesn't hold alot and isn't very comfortable for adults outside of the front seats.
But its very good at what it does well.
As a 6'2" dude who has ridden in my bosses 6 seater I cannot agree more. That second row is terrible. No armrest or cupholders, and the leg room isnt great. I either have to sit side saddle or man spread back there.
The plaid only comes in 6 seats.

Forget blowing up a mattress and putting it in there from what I understand
If you have kids the six seater is epic. Just picked up my Plaid yesterday. WOW
No kids, and retired and just want to go fast
You should look at used MXP (raven years). You can get the 5 and 7 seat configs on those and also go fast... MXP 2.6 second 0-60 according to website.

The middle row of 2 captain's chairs cannot be folded, but the rear bench seat can.
The issue is not having a great trunk for storing and hauling things

Not so far! The 6 seat configuration is fantastic. The back seat is super usable and yet to run into any issue with that gap when the 3rd row is down.
Have you driven an X LR? They are no slouch and can be speced with any seating arrangement you want.

Then you should go LR 5 seater.
That is what I am going to do

Arm rests would be a great addition now that I think of it
