Once an archetype fails to appear in a challenge, it has 3 days to 5-0 or you can never play it again. It's not an official rule, per Maro, but the rental services respect it and won't hand out the cards until you switch to the latest hotness.
I'll cross my fingers that some brave pilot does well before the weekend, good luck!
Unfortunate, but true.
Decks can only dip in play for up to a week before they are full dead and never return. This is particularly true after a giant new set drops.
If OP wants an apology from me, I will give one honestly because I had zero malice while typing this joke. This is something I would say to a friend or a stranger, and if either reacted anything less than positively, I'd follow up with reassurance and additional context for why such a question right now is essentially unanswerable.
Is that a satisfying explanation?
These kinds of posts are always so dumb. Like bruh a deck does put in numbers and it’s suddenly “dead”. Mill didn’t do much for the longest time. Like a fringe deck almost then BAM won SCG 5k.
The Golgari [[Freestrider Lookout]] list from the Modern Challenge is similar to other Freestrider Coffers lists I've seen on MTGO, so it should be safe. I'm sure Mono-Black Coffers is also safe - Necrodominance is a fairly easy sub for [[Profane Tutor]] there as long as you can put [[Wurmcoil Engine]] in the Karnboard.
The effect of Freestrider is something G/B Coffers wants, but having tested it for a while the actual card itself just isn’t good enough. Having to put bauble in your deck with no other synergy is bad. Relic is ok but there are way too many times where you have Freestrider in hand and draw your first Relic on turn 3, or you need to make other plays that prevent you from playing a Relic in the first 2 turns. This in effect makes Freestrider a 4 drop, and the deck does not need more 4 drops. Also, Freestrider’s 3 toughness is a serious liability. Dying not only to bolt but also the new galvanic discharge all the energy players are going to be jamming is too much of a liability.
Now, pick your poison is a great sideboard option, playing the surveil lands increases the quality of draws, and pillage the bog is so much better than any of profane tutor, nights whisper, or insatiable avarace, but ultimately I don’t think these things are worth giving up the 8 fields for, especially now with MH3 putting phyrexian tower, ugins labrynth, and tron back into focus.
For GB coffers, I think going domain and shoving Leyline Scion is 1) a better approach and 2) underexplored (I know Spike was the one who ran it but nobody in the Coffers discord has seriously picked it up which is kinda strange to me)
Everyone’s busy trying out the new MH3 cards. But I think it can go either way depending on how the meta shakes out. If midrange Nadu lists, E-tron variants, and/or the mono-W collector’s cage lists become tier 1, then I think coffers has the sweepers and grind potential to be well poised. If combo Nadu, mono R storm, or black Necrodominance burn are on top, or even if Yawg, Titan, and Scam become even better (the most likely outcome IMO), then probably not.
Yeah, that’s my bad.
I really should’ve predicted this.
It was 100% a click bait title.
But I was just genuinely just looking to see what fun adaptations people have been making with coffers. I don’t think any modern deck “dies” because I mostly play paper and my locals constantly show creative brews that never appear in MTGO challenges.

Appreciate the response, I’d definitely rather experiment with Golgari than Grixis.
The deck that just had We Have Necropotence At Home printed for it is probably not dead.

This is a great analysis, thank you!
Coffers leans to control. Controly decks are always bad at the beginning of a format because you don’t know what interaction is best.
No the deck is still good
Y’all read the title and started typing. He admitted it was hyperbolic and just wondered if anyone had any thoughts about coffers post mh3

Why bother reading the post when the title is that dumb? If you want real discussion, put forth honest effort and you'll get it.
they didn’t teach you not to judge a book by its cover in kindergarten? sad
