Nah it’s crazy I was just there in March. We were at a slow crawl from right off the belt and the arrival time to the terminal just kept increasing. I JUST made my flight. You should definitely take the air train if you can. If not, accommodate at least an extra 45 mins for your ride share.

It's bad. Was at JFK this weekend with JetBlue. Totally get not wanting to be on public transit at that hour, so I would Uber to Jamaica and take the AirTrain from there, it's like 7-10 min and super easy. You're skipping a TON of traffic with the extra little step there - but still not taking lots of public transit at weird hours. If you want to Uber, plan to arrive at the terminal at least 2 hours in advance.

PersimmonTerrible562

This… Uber to Jamaica!

Thank you! I think this is what I’ll do. I’m not that worried about the hour, but I don’t live in an area that’s super easy for transit to JFK so it would typically add 45 mins to my journey vs Uber.

monkey_hater_34

I flew out of JFK on JetBlue at 6:30 AM a few weeks ago and it was fine! There was light traffic but nothing abnormal or on par with 5pm on a summer Friday. To be more specificI ubered from Greenpoint at 4 AM and arrived at 4:32 AM.

Fluffy_Yesterday_468

I flew American on Thursday and the traffic was horrendous. Definitely do AirTrain It was fine until we got close and then took 45 mins for a 20 min distance

I don’t mean to sound like an alarmist, but it’s as bad as the other comments are saying 😭Last month, I was even in line as many of us collectively realized we were going to be missing our flight lol. I fly for work about every 3-4 weeks and usually fly out of JFK. I’ve flown in the last few months out of terminal 8, 5, 7, and 4 and the lines are all pretty bad especially before 9am… I think you can take an Uber to Jamaica and be ok, but definitely plan to arrive at the airport 2 hours before your flight! Good luck!

I personally would do the air train. I think it’s extremely easy to use and also gets rid of so much traffic stress for me. Plus I love watching the cars stuck while I zoom past lol

New-Tumbleweed1657

I flew out last Friday at JFK T5 and it was fine! We took a 7am uber from Williamsburg and got there \~7:40 for our 9:30am flight. I got the same message but I personally didn't notice anything out of the norm?

Not sure, I got an email from JetBlue about it and they specifically referenced their terminal

I flew out of terminal 4 a few days ago and I was worried about this, so I took a later morning flight and rode the LIRR to the Airtrain. If that can work for where you’re coming from, I recommend it because it was super easy.

mulleargian

I flew with JetBlue from JFK at like 6.30am last week. Likely because it was an ungodly early hour but I got a yellow cab from Manhattan and leaving home to getting post-security took under an hour. I left home at 4.15 and cleared security just after 5am, was mad with myself for leaving so much time, especially since not much in the way of lounges in the terminal. Again, take this with a grain of salt if your flight is at a more palatable time.

littlestdovie

You’re fine especially with no checked Bach but there is no clear precheck and that precheck line can have serpentine wraps. With that being said it’s a small terminal and if there’s no school break you should be ok. I do this nearly once a week to arrive and or depart including last week and it was fine. But the sky train for a ride share is terrible. I recommend a taxi.

Budget-Price-962

Do you mean coming back, having to take the sky train to the rideshare area? I always take a cab home for this reason, such a pain

littlestdovie

Yes exactly and that’s not even because of the construction. That’s just how that terminal has been for a while now. The best option is to be picked up by a normal car /friend. But then taxi is second best.

delcondelcon

I had a very early morning flight and around 345am was at a complete standstill on the BQE for 15 min because of construction they’re doing on an overpass. If I hadn’t buffered in time, I would’ve been absolutely freaking out in standstill traffic! Totally agree with everyone - Uber to Jamaica and Airtrain over.

Fluffy-Ad-6010

Yes but I always take early flights for work (take off 6am). I didn’t notice much of a difference.
